Miller Bubbling with Confidence

Simon Miller is confident Double Bubble can continue her progress in the Crown Perth Plate (1300m) at Belmont on Saturday.

Double Bubble has won both her two races and will start a raging favourite after a dominant 4 ½ length victory last-start.

“Double Bubble is on an upward spiral from run to run,” Miller said on TABradio

“She is improving out of sight behind the scenes.

“She has always been quick, but she now has the stamina and is showing that at home as well as the races now.

“To see what she is doing now is no surprise, but it’s the manner she is doing things.

“If she wins Saturday she will have a freshen-up and come back to play the Ascot carnival.”

Miller saddles two runners with highly-rated stable mate Amelia’s La Bout to launch her return to racing after two trials.

The Hinchinbrook filly bolted in on debut at Ascot last year, but missed the remainder of her two-year-old season after a serious paddock injury.

“I thought her first trial was brilliant, but the second plain,” Miller said.

“I scoped her at home to see if there were any issues and she scoped with mucus.

“So that was the reason for that poor trial and she has been good since.

“It’s a bonus to have her back at the track, but we now have to see how she handles race day pressure.

“Her work leading into this was stronger than leading to her only win, so that is a positive from behind the scenes.

“She’s fit, she’s healthy, she is ready, she is sound, but you want to see what she does when the pressure goes on.”

Champion hoop William Pike, who sat aboard Amelia’s La Bout in her only win, has opted to remain with Double Bubble.

In a field of nine starters, Double Bubble has drawn barrier three.

“It was a tough decision for him because he didn’t know which way to go,” Miller said.

“He knows how good Amelia’s (La Bout) is and Double Bubble is on an upward spiral.

“He played the percentages because he knows she (Double Bubble) is fit and isn’t coming off an injury.”

Despite their contrasting market positions, Miller said he found it difficult to split his pair.

Double Bubble has firmed to $1.75 after being installed the $1.85 TABtouch favourite.

Amelia’s La Bout, to jump from barrier two for Jason Brown, has eased from $8 to $9.50.

“They worked on Tuesday and hit the line together,” Miller said.

“I’m just going to sit on the fence and watch.

“I would love Amelia’s to launch and show what we think of her, but she is coming off a setback.

“The other one you want to see continue on because she is full of confidence and rocking along.”
