Deane’s Saturday Caulfield Best Bets Posted on December 15, 2017 | Posted by Chris Nelson Chris Nelson’s Preview RACE 3 NO. 3 HOLY FREEZE Lightly raced colt HOLY FREEZE looks well placed to record his first city win when he runs in the 3YO Benchmark 70 Handicap (1440m). The son of Street Cry was an impressive debut winner at Hamilton before subsequent placings at Sandown in recent weeks. He raced greenly at his last run when finishing second behind MEMORY BANK over 1300 metres at Sandown on December 2 prompting trainer Darren Weir to put blinkers on HOLY FREEZE for this start. It could be the winning move and HOLY FREEZE appeals as one of the better bets of the day. RACE 4 NO. 6 VINLAND VINLAND will start one of the shorter priced favourites of the day and should justify that price with a win in the 3& 4YO Benchmark 70 Handicap (1700m). The Tony McEvoy trained colt ran a bold race when finishing 5th in the Sandown Guineas two starts back before a very easy win over 1600 metres at Sandown Hillside on December 2. He appreciated being ridden a touch quieter on that occasion and sprinted quickly when asked for an effort by in-form rider Andrew Mallyon. He’s a very progressive horse with more upside than his rivals and should win again. SuperPick - RACE 4 NO. 6 VINLAND - Win Boost RACE 8 NO. 2 THERMAL CURRENT Veteran sprinter THERMAL CURRENT is fitter for one run back from a spell and looks a strong winning chance when he runs in the Catanach’s Jewellers Handicap (1100m). The seven year old looked in fine fettle when running a solid first-up second behind JUNGLE EDGE over 1000 metres at Sandown on December 2. He boasts a fantastic second-up record of four wins from eight previous attempts and looks primed to record another big performance. Elite rider Damian Lane takes the ride and THERMAL CURRENT looks the best value chance of the day. Bet Now
