Greg’s Ascot Preview Posted on January 20, 2017 | Posted by Greg Hooper Greg Hooper’s Preview RACE 1 Tough opener with eight of the eleven making their race track debut. MASSAGI has trialled well and is a half to the talented Gatting. Pike on and she looks the testing material. FROSTY BEVERAGE looked quite sharp in a recent trial where he finished strongly. DRIFTWOOD GIRL came into some betting support on debut. She can improve. IZ THAT RIGHT won her trial in a strong fashion. Numbers – 10 – 1 – 4 – 9 Suggested Bet – MASSAGI AND FROSTY BEVERAGE RACE 2 BLUE HOUDINI ran well first-up. Pike jumps on and he looks the one to beat. MISS SINGAPORE resumes from a spell for a new stable. She showed ability last campaign. FAULTY was caught in the wrong spot at Pinjarra. MIDDLE EARTH showed a bit at the trials. Numbers – 3 – 7 – 2 – 6 Suggested Bet – BLUE HOUDINI WIN RACE 3 The Durrant/Miller training combination look to have this race at their mercy with FAST AS THE WIND and GENERAL HUSSON. Keen on the chances of FAST AS THE WIND who should relish the rise to 1500m and has the services of W Pike. GENERAL HUSSON finds the front and can give plenty of cheek. PERSIAN PRINCESS gets off the speed and finds the line strongly. FRIARESQUE is a chance to sneak into the first-four. Numbers – 8 – 3 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – FAST AS THE WIND WIN RACE 4 SETTLERS CREEK has been a perennial bridesmaid finishing runner-up at his last four starts. This does look a perfect assignment and he should get a lovely run on the speed. POINT looks the danger. The drop back to 1400m is the query. RUN LIAM RUN has been attacking the line and the 1400m looks ideal. SPANGLED IMPACT can work into the first-four. Numbers – 4 – 6 – 2 – 11 Suggested Bet – SETTLERS CREEK WIN RACE 5 CHINETTI has been given a four week freshen-up and drops back to 1000m. He can burn over from a wide draw and prove the one to run down. CUANZO has been good at both runs for his new trainer Lou Luciani. He parks in behind the speed and goes close. BOMBS AWAY is on the quick back up and drops back to 1000m. Numbers – 6 – 8 – 5 – 2 Suggested Bet – CHINETTI AND CUANZO RACE 6 SHADY GRAY has produced two eye-catching runs for the Simon Miller stable. If he be within striking distance on straightening he goes very close. PRESENTATIE made a meal of the start first-up but managed to pick up strongly late to finish on the heels of the placegetters. MY GREEK BOY went to Albany last start and scored a soft win. He’s very capable at this level. JINGTANG can give a sight on the speed. Numbers – 5 – 9 – 2 – 8 Suggested Bet – SHADY GRAY AND PRESENTATIE RACE 7 GATTING looks a promising three-year-old who possesses a big late finish. He will be very hard to hold out despite taking on the older horses. MACAVITY continues to race well. He can settle handy to the speed and keep grinding away. JUICING CARROTS has returned in top order for his new trainer. He can win despite the 60kg. HAY MAGIC always has claims at this level. Numbers – 9 – 6 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – GATTING WIN RACE 8 This looks a race light on for winning chances. FIRST AFFAIR has been given a four week freshen-up. She was super form over the months November and December and of can replicate those effort will take some beating. ROMELO was solid first-up and the mile suits. SCARLETT SPEEDSTER can improve on his effort last week when he was back and wide in a slowly run race. HEY LISTEN has claims if she can replicate her effort from two starts back. Numbers – 4 – 10 – 8 – 11 Suggested Bet – FIRST AFFAIR AND ROMELO QUADDIE RACE 5 – 2, 5, 6, 8, 9 RACE 6 – 2, 5, 8, 9 RACE 7 – 1, 3, 4, 6, 9, 10 RACE 8 – 4, 10 Bet Now
