Wayne’s Preview – Scorchers vs Hurricanes Posted on January 20, 2017June 7, 2018 | Posted by Wayne Clark Saturday January 21, 2017 The Scorchers let a real chance go to consolidate finals birth last week, but get another opportunity against the Hurricanes on Saturday night. Win and you’re in, lose and you’re relying on other results to get a finals spot. If they are to win this game and be a threat in the finals, they need a better effort from the batsmen. Shaun Marsh has had a poor series and there must be discussion from the Scorchers hierarchy on whether to keep him at the top or replace him with Whiteman or Cartwright. Back him I say! Whatever they do, all the batsmen can improve, Bell, Cartwright and Whiteman need to contribute more. The bowlers have generally done well, with Johnson and Richardson impressing at the top. Early wickets against the Hurricanes is important as we can see how affective Pain, Short and Bailing can be. Also how good was McDermott in his second game – breathtaking batting. Of course a win to the Hurricanes can see them in the finals, a loss could mean finishing last – so they have plenty of incentive as well. I’m going to put my faith in the Scorchers batsmen to lift against a Hurricanes attack which has leaked runs recently and for the Scorchers bowlers to restrict the opposition to a manageable score – something they have done so well in the past – Scorchers to win!
