Chris Nelson’s Randwick Rundown Posted on April 15, 2016 | Posted by Chris Nelson Chris Nelson’s Preview RACE 1 No. 2 NIGHTS ON FIRE Freshened up since being run down at Goulburn in a fast run race back in February. Place 3 of 4 previous outings which included placings at Warwick Farm and Rosehill. Looks a good each-way chance here. (13) CIRCLE GAME lightly raced and resumes, not too far away at Caulfield before going for a break. Definite market watch. (3) TIGER BY THE TALE will appreciate the weight drop after lumping 62kg when not far away at Goulburn. (5) DASHIE DE LUXE resumes, generally races well when on the fresh side and drawn to figure. Suggested Bet – Nights On Fire each-way. RACE 2 No. 3 SANTA ANA LANE Victorian trained gelding who backs up off a good effort here last week and although dropping back to 1200m has the right form and is a big show to mow the leaders down late. (1) MOHAVE Godolphin runner who resumes off only the one run last campaign. Sharpened up with a couple of recent barrier trials (2nd in both) and holds a good fresh record. Betting watch. (4) AMMIRATA is only lightly raced having won 5 of her 11 starts, she’s been game in winning on each occasion having to dig deep, can’t knock! (2) ROCK FORTHE LADIES form down south is very consistent, likely to need a touch of luck off the awkward gate however right in the mix. Suggested Bet – Box up the first 4 selections in exotics. RACE 3 No. 1 OLD NORTH One of two acceptors in the race for Godolphin and both are at the top of the betting markets. This one was very impressive in the Tulloch when very strong to the line when winning, no luck the run prior when may have been a ‘good thing beaten’. Can win again. (9) ASINARA stable mate to the above who simply gave away too much start last time out in the Group 1 Vinery, expecting her to settle closer this time and she can finish off strongly. (3) HE’S OUR ROKKII fought on well to win here a fortnight back after racing wide, in the mix. (7) HIERARCHAL not far away in the same race as above and from the good gate should be in the finish again. Suggested Bet – Win bet Old North. RACE 4 No. 1 PEARLS Wasn’t far away in the Group 1 Coolmore before dropping back sharply in trip here last start when beating all bar the winner Tempt Me Not with a decent gap back to the rest. Under these conditions up against this field looks very hard to beat. (2) NO MORE TEARS Kiwi galloper who just didn’t handle the conditions here last week. Form back home was first race and suggesting she’ll improve sharply here. (5) DENMAGIC little luck last couple and could land a placing here with better fortunes. (4) LADY SNIPER impressive at Gosford before a bit keen latest here, Blake Shinn jumps on which is a good lead. Suggested Bet – Win bet Pearls. RACE 5 No. 7 OBSCURA Hasn’t raced for 3 weeks and although rising 200m is in the right yard and I don’t see that as being a concern. Made up a lot of ground at that last run clocking slick sectionals right from the 800m to the line. He can get home over the top of these. (1) PRIZED ICON winner this track and distance last start in the Listed Fernhill. Likely to go around favourite and is the logical danger. (8) FARAWAY TOWN not far away last three starts all in very good company, wouldn’t overlook. (4) EL SICARIO Kiwi raider who’s impressed at both runs (2nd) back home. Hard to line up the form and is a definite betting watch. Suggested Bet – Win bet Obscura/exotics based around the top 4 selections. RACE 6 No. 11 MUSIC MAGNATE Bjorn Baker trained gelding who resumes from a break tomorrow. He’s been burning up the training track and has won his two barrier trials leading in. Lightly raced progressive type who almost ran down Fell Swoop first up last campaign. (1) CHARLIE BOY won well first up, fitter, drawn well and is a second up winner. (6) SPEAK FONDLY didn’t fire first up, given a freshen up and has since bolted in a barrier trial, betting? (8) ARTLEE Faces acid test here however holds a very good record and has won fresh. Suggested Bet – Music Magnate each-way. RACE 7 No. 6 PRESS STATEMENT Given a freshen up after placing in the George Ryder behind the champ Winx. The drop back to 1400m probably more suitable and his overall form prior is impeccable. Goes very close here. (2) MALAGUERRA absolutely flying and just keeps going from strength to strength. Does face his acid test here at Weight For Age however cannot be knocked. (1) KERMADEC slow recovery rate in the Doncaster after a top run in the Ryder, can bounce back. (5) BLACK HEART BART back to his best and right in the mix here for Melbourne Cup winning trainer Darren Weir. Suggested Bet – Win bet Press Statement. RACE 8 No. 4 HAVANA COOLER Plenty of out of form runners going around here however this one isn’t one of them! Flying at the end of his last campaign placing in the Metrop and the Lexus at Flemington on Derby Day. Big win first up and the 2000m trip will suit even better. Very hard to hold out. (2) MESSENE consistent and freshened up should figure in the placings. (11) SADDLER’S LAKE overall disappointing to date this preparation however can bounce back here up to the longer trip. (3) GUARDINI won up to 2400m, his Victorian form is well up to this. Suggested Bet – Win bet Havana Cooler RACE 9 No. 1 STRAWBERRY BOY Not seen since beating all bar the Group 1 winner Lucky Hussler on Magic Millions Day at the Gold Coast in January. Holds a very good first up record and has trialled well leading in, big weight however if able to roll along will take some running down. (13) NANCY freshened up, drawn well and in the right yard. Definite threat. (3) DANCES ON STARS finds a much easier race than he’s contested for quite some time. Obviously up in the weights however good enough to overcome that. (5) MEDCAUT awkward gate however off a let-up here and has won fresh. Suggested Bet – Strawberry Boy each-way. BEST BET Race 4 No. 1 Pearls BEST EACH_WAY Race 5 No. 7 Obscura Bet Now
