David Shortte’s Friday Mandurah Preview

Meeting Overview

A nice 10 race program highlighted by the Holiday Coast Series Final over 400 metres, a potentially lopsided middle distance race over the 601 metres, the emerging Dottie Keeping looking to make it a winning hat-trick and a quality Free For All over the 488 metres.

There are a couple of favourites that I like but there are some reasonable odds on offer about some strong winning hopes.

The Holiday Coast Series Final is an absolute ripper – Below are my thoughts :

Last week’s heat winners Hudson (22.41), Just a Piastri (22.31) and Intimidation (22.05) were all comfortable winners but now meet a collectively stronger lineup and draw considerably different.

Intimidation was the fastest qualifier and ran the equal fastest early split and has won his last 5 starts in a row including a Group 1 Adelaide Cup. For me he has to be the starting point here although he does have to nail the start again. Just A Piastri has finished top 2 in 7 of his last 9 starts and while the draw is sticky he has the speed and class to counter that. Mabel Monelli gets the all important box one draw here and she has won here last 2 tries from this box in zippy times of 22.29 and 22.32 and Hudson deserves respect from the inside draw.

Tips for Race 6 the SIGNUP WA Holiday Coast Series Final

1st – 4 Intimidation

2nd – 7 Just A Piastri

3rd – 1 Mabel Monelli

4th – 2 Hudson

Best Bets

Race 4 No.5 VINTAGE GEM

Nippy beginner who returns from a 4 month break here but her career stats of 4 starts for a win and 2 seconds are a good indication of her ability levels. Won her Maiden over 400 metres leading all the way in 22.72 and something like that here would see her very hard to beat. Maps to be right up on top of the speed and should take some running down from there. Bella’s Star (7) has also been showing good early zip and Mr. Mysterio (3) has been a consistent placegetter.

Race 8 No.8 MY PADDY BOY

Beat a high quality sprint lineup last start over the 381 metres at Cannington in a hot 21.70 seconds. Moves to box 8 where he will get room to zoom and last time he had this box he won here in impressive style in 22.73. Has opened at $2.65 on the Fixed Odds and I am happy to be involved around that price. I respect number 6 Brave Annie who will appreciate this easier race but she has been placed in just 3 of her last 16 so I am happy to stick with Paddy who arrives here full of confidence.

MULTI

Race 5 No.2 DOTTIE KEEPING win in to Race 9 No.4 SUNSET SILENCE win

These two greyhounds are both in great form with wins at 2 of their last 3 and with average racing luck they should prove too classy for their opposition tonight. They are not at any flash prices but as a combination we are getting around $2.51 and that looks a solid multi play for me. I am also happy to take them up front in Trifecta and First Fours in their respective events.
