Scott Embry’s Wednesday Ascot Preview Posted on January 7, 2025January 7, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 DIAMONDS’N’RUBIES was thrown in the deep end on debut and beat half of her rivals home in a Saturday 3 year old event which has already produced two subsequent winners in Sunshine Tafe and Noahquintilly. This is winnable as long as she isn’t run off her legs in the early and middle stages. DESERT WHISPER is a jump and run filly suited back to the 1000. NORTH FACE comes back in trip and has to lump 60kg but he’s improving with each run. ZIPPY ZANY broke her maiden in style but is drawn awkwardly. Numbers: 8 – 2 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet – DIAMONDS’N’RUBIES WIN RACE 2 ROCKING GEM was a late scratching in a C3 1000 on 18 December and has been back to trials since. She now instead resumes in an even more suitable C1 1000, is drawn barrier 1 and can lead or box seat. There’s some other speed in this (Canny Rock, Weapons Hot) but thinking that Holly Watson likely rides her like the best horse in the race. CANNY ROCK has run a minor placing to Toropa on a Saturday. He’s got ability. NATURAL GEM trialled well without blinkers and maps nicely at her return. GOOD VIBES next best. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 7 – 6 Suggested Bet – ROCKING GEM WIN RACE 3 SAIL SESSION was pretty stiff last start and unsuccessfully protest against the runner-up. The form is possibly a bit questionable out of that maiden, however, he seemed to relish the step from 1300 to 1675 and now out even further he’s sure to have admirers. No stars in this and looks to get his chance. EXTRA ZERO is out to 1800m but after the Chanel Cooper claim he again only has 53.5kg on his back. He’ll pinch one soon. BARRA MUNDY likely has to roll forwards and breeze outside of him. MISS SANTA CORRS got going late last start. Numbers: 7 – 5 – 3 – 13 Suggested Bet – SAIL SESSION WIN RACE 4 DIAMOND DANCER is an intriguing runner to assess. She’s finished fourth in a Burgess Queen, less than 1L from the likes of London’s Image, Ron’s Finalflutter, Flower Of Gold and most importantly, Storyville. She’s had a freshen, she’s got a senior rider on and she looks well placed. Feel like the market is likely to target her? AT YOUR SERVICE broke her maiden in a 3 year old 0MWLY then ran into in form mare Ain’tsobad and improving filly Sunshine Tafe. She drops 2.5kg and draws a gate. CHERRY CAN RUN is in career best. HOUSEWIFE will need a good steer. Numbers: 9 – 8 – 3 – 7 Suggested Bet – DIAMOND DANCER WIN RACE 5 LIEUTENANT DUNBAR ran an honest race into third first-up behind Cherry Can Run and we’ll see the quality of that form reference in Race 4 when she takes on a pair of more than handy fillies in Diamond Dancer and At Your Service. He should only improve second-up and he’ll land into a nice position stalking the speed. CLOSE AT HANDY is another really nice ride for stable apprentice Chanel Cooper who is starting to come of age. The ball is starting to roll for her and get a feeling she’s about to burst onto the scene in town. LIGHTNING GOLD is going super. DEFIANT DIORITE a watch. Numbers: 6 – 2 – 7 – 3 Suggested Bet – LIEUTENANT DUNBAR WIN RACE 6 INFURIATED is only the winner of a moderate 1700m maiden at Belmont Park but he did run very well fresh in this grade at Bunbury behind Split Jete and he does look the progressive horse in the race. Provided they’re making ground, he’s found a relatively weak race in which to break through again. BLEEKER STREET finished off well behind Our Rocky Bay at Pinjarra last start. Cops 60kg and likely settles in a similar spot to Infuriated in running who has a 3kg pull on him. THOROGOOD ran a ripper off 56 days and now heads back to the races off another 60 day freshen. SPECIAL VIEW is always thereabouts. Numbers: 7 – 1 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – INFURIATED WIN RACE 7 SIDE SHOW did show something last start. His first run in WA was solid, beaten 1L by Playing Quest and now 2x subsequent winner Soldanelle in a C3 but then he put in an unexplainable shocker second-up behind Strictly Cash. In a wide open race without any standouts going to put him on top mainly because of how well the Dylan Bairstow yard is going at the minute. NOBLE CONNECTION and MY IDOL are both 3 year olds who have far more improvement and upside than their rivals and must be respected. BIONDO may have turned a corner. Numbers: 6 – 4 – 7 – 1 Suggested Bet – SIDE SHOW EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 3,8,9 2,3,6,7,10,12 1,7 1,3,4,6,7,8,10,11 Market Market
