Scott Embry’s Wednesday Bunbury Preview

Race 1

TEX N CEE looks ready for a 1400. On debut at 1100 ran well behind speedy stablemate and subsequent winner Supersmash and then he ran into Admiration Express’ half sister Angel Express who had shown well and truly above average ability at trials. Maps to get a lovely run midfield with cover and is racing like he wants ground. MOOSE was all the rage on debut when plunged from $3.60 into $1.70 in an extremely spirited betting move. He’s a big lump of an animal who ended up in a really awkward position as the field broke open at the 600 and he was unable to build through his gears behind horses who were taking him nowhere. He’s a nice horse in the making but barrier 1 scares me. LUNARIS is still getting better with racing. AUTUMN SALLY looks to have come back a bit stronger this prep.

Numbers: 1 – 3 – 8 – 9

Suggested Bet – TEX N CEE WIN

Race 2

DYNASTIC LASS ran 3L to Properata, Star Martini and Vienna Calling in a winner producing race first-up at 1000m, went 46 days between runs into her second-up assignment at 1300 when running a narrow second and then led and faded last start behind Browning Street. Going well and now gets Pike and blinkers. Not convinced she’s anything special but does look to get all the favours here. ZESTY ZOOM is through the same race as Tex N Cee in the opener. She went around at nearly 100-1 but held her own to be beaten a 2.5L margin. Has a set of winkers added to her race gear second-up and will have to overcome a really tricky alley but it was an encouraging debut. PLAY DEL SOL has missed the run (scratched 28 September) forcing her into going from 1100 to 1400 off 27 days. That hurts but the Pistone form line is strong. ROCK ROYALTY is the full brother to stable star Rock Fest but looks a lot more one paced.

Numbers: 11 – 12 – 5 – 10

Suggested Bet – DYNASTIC LASS WIN

Race 3

BEYOND MEASURE has always put on a clinic at trials. He had three runs last preparation including making his debut as a $4.40 chance in a 3 year old Saturday and finishing 1L off Swingman, God’s Cross and Holler Nuff in another 3 year old Saturday, beating home Country God, Champagne Crusader, Watto’s Mark and Streamlined in the process. Has again trialled up brilliantly and just looks a horse. ENCROACHING couldn’t have done much more on debut when wide throughout before being gunned down by She’s A Splinter. Again covered plenty of territory second-up when second on a Saturday to now 3 year old Saturday winner Swift Ruler. Logical danger. MISS AJAX ran a ripper on debut behind Rifleman and Quedjinup as a 2 year old. PASSIONENUFF has been trialling well at Lark Hill recently.

Numbers: 1 – 4 – 14 – 12

Suggested Bet – BEYOND MEASURE WIN

Race 4

FLYING IN THE WIND trialled alongside Famed Girl at Lark Hill in a 950m heat where they skipped over 3.5L from the third horse. Famed Girl didn’t exactly set the world on fire on Sunday at Northam but at the same time did have some minor excuses in a maiden that had more depth to it than this. The fact that Pike trialled her over Famed Girl also says there’s a decent opinion of her behind the scenes and she’s the half sister to JC Roberts and Melvista winner Sail Session. HAPPY DANCE was sent out a $3.40 chance on debut in a 2 year old Saturday and not much went right for her. Immediately spelled and has only 52kg here. MAGNIFICENT MALCOM was a complete forgive first-up. EXTREME RULER has had his fair share of chances but is rarely far from the action.

Numbers: 13 – 12 – 8 – 1

Suggested Bet – FLYING IN THE WIND WIN

Race 5

QUEDJINUP and ANGEL EXPRESS could easily become Belgravia – Burgess Queen – Champion Fillies – WA Guineas types over the coming months. The fact that they’re clashing here in a C1 1200 on a Wednesday afternoon at Bunbury is a treat for punters and expect they’ll have a bit too much firepower and upside for their rivals here. From their respective draws there’s a distinct possibility that ANGEL EXPRESS settles a pair in front of QUEDJINUP in the run and that could be the simple difference in the finish. MY DANNY BOY can look to come out running in an attempt to cross. RUTHLESS ANGEL was brave after being three deep the trip last start but looks destined to be again here.

Numbers: 8 – 6 – 1 – 2

Suggested Bet – QUEDJINUP WIN

Race 6

HOT LIKE CHILI has been thereabouts all campaign. These 54+ stayers races are ridiculously hard to get a strong handle on as most of these types need everything to go their way to win and being 1 from 33 she’s an ideal example of that, but her second to Sister Mary, her second to Wild Things and even her 1.5L defeat to Dandy’s Gem earlier in the prep are all good enough to be really competitive at double figures. Should nearly land 1×1 and hopefully from there gives cheek. ADMIRED won a Saturday only two starts ago. The old boy tends to pick up a race every prep, can he make it two? DANDY’S GEM was given a great run by Shaun McGruddy last start and if nobody else wants to lead he can take it up here. ETERNAL ROMANCE ran well in a very similar race to this two back.

Numbers: 9 – 1 – 6 – 3

Suggested Bet – HOT LIKE CHILI EACHWAY

Race 7

GALWAY SHAWL is brilliantly placed by Bruce Watkins. She resumed in a 66+ 1000 at Belmont Park when beaten under 2L by Pingers, Niccimota and Pin Deep and now second-up she finds herself back at her home track (where she’s 4 from 5) and back into a 0MWLY 60+. She track up along the fence in a fast run race and provided she gets clear galloping room in the home straight expect her to sprint past these on her way back to Saturday company. SCREAM only has 52.5kg after the Sharni Webster claim and can be sent on a jump and run mission. Has been trialling up well for his return and should have no troubles crossing. BONDITRAM gets some big weight relief coming up in grade and will continue to improve as the distances increase. QUEEN ARIA has a short, sharp turn of foot suited to being tucked away.

Numbers: 3 – 6 – 4 – 5

Suggested Bet – GALWAY SHAWL WIN

Race 8

TREASURED LEGACY is going to be prohibitively short (thinking $1.45 – $1.50 areas). Not exactly convincing first-up in a maiden, but at the same time didn’t get any flow into the race, and then second-up held her own in a 3 year old Saturday behind undefeated Morton galloper Roger and highly touted Durrant fancy Swift Ruler. Back into a C3, Pike back on, she’ll be very short. Interesting case study given Pike’s comments that she didn’t appreciate being cluttered away between runners first-up and she’s drawn barrier 1 here. NICKELPLAY a bit like her stablemate Show The Way on Sunday, has far more ability than a horse with a 1 from 19 career record. POLYVANOVA put in an uncharacteristic shocker last start. Can bounce back. UNCLE GERARD has raced in higher grade at 10 of his last 14 and is going well.

Numbers: 14 – 6 – 2 – 4

Suggested Bet – TREASURED LEGACY WIN
