Scott Embry’s Thursday Geraldton Preview Posted on January 7, 2025January 7, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 SAFE HUSTLE has had a super consistent season so far. He’s had 10 runs in the prep (9 at Geraldton) and they’ve produced 2 victories and 3 runner-up performances. There’s no Starring Knight this time around and that gives him a big chance. PRINCE RAGNAR did beat him home two back by 2.5L and coming back to 1100m could be key for his chances. BOMBAY STYLE is an old campaigner of the region who always picks up a race or two. SAUVEGARDE does no work from the inside gate. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet – SAFE HUSTLE WIN RACE 2 SUMMER MOOD has been about the place throughout her preparation and career. This field has a lot of horses who have had plenty of chances and run consistent placings without truly threatening the judge. She’s one of them but she’s also drawn the best of them. DISCUSS has shades added and finished third behind Live Lucky and Art Session. FIRE THE GUARD stays in Geraldton and joins Gordon Spowart. He has gone around unders his entire career and promised to win a maiden for a long time. He’ll get one eventually. DEMETRIOUS was a great first run for Anthony Barton. Numbers: 8 – 9 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet – SUMMER MOOD WIN RACE 3 DOMINICAN FLIRT finished nearly 6L off the winner on debut over 1400m, however, Grant Williams suggested that the winner (Territory Man) could be a Derby type, and the runner-up (Barra Mundy) goes around favourite in an 1800m maiden on Wednesday at Ascot. Might not be the worst debut effort. BIG BONED BAZ has met with betting support on occasion throughout the season and should be able to get one on the board soon. ARTERRE runs his races in patches but there’s definitely something there. DIVERSE comes back in trip and that may suit. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 4 – 9 Suggested Bet – DOMINICAN FLIRT WIN RACE 4 SPARKLE CORNER has won two of his last three and looks ready to make the step into 58+ company. He drops 2.5kg off a dominant on speed C2 win in a race where they stopped the clock 5L faster than average. This is winnable off that rating. THE RUSH has the 59kg top weight but she’s been a model of consistency for new trainer Malcolm Mackenzie and maps to get all the favours. MASTER ALEX wasn’t disgraced only 3L off them in 70+ grade. ENTICING was a great first-up run for his new trainer and gets Troy Turner. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – SPARKLE CORNER WIN RACE 5 I’M ON has been a regular in this preview since returning to Geraldton and now looks ready to win. Great run fresh over 1200m, bit stiff not to finish closer second-up at 1200m again, third-up made excellent late ground in a high rating race behind Sparkle Corner and now gets out to 1600m. Again thrown a poor barrier but she’s ready. SNIP OF GOSSIP finds this much easier than recent assignments and has the shades added after finishing less than 2L off them in a C3 1690 at Bunbury. TRADED CROWN was good last start. WUNDERKIND is always there. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 6 – 7 Suggested Bet – I’M ON WIN RACE 6 LIVE LUCKY has had two runs for Gordon Spowart and they’ve been super. The maiden win was arrogant and the second-up run was honest in defeat behind a horse who is simply better than Geraldton grade when he turns up (On The Mark). Happy to keep following the filly. STEVIE’S MAY had two super wins earlier in the season and has been given a 43 day freshen by high-strike rate trainer Albert Bowtell. Big respect. JUSTHANDY won well off a freshen (seems to go best off that profile). MOORUMBINE a watch on the grass. Numbers: 10 – 7 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – LIVE LUCKY WIN RACE 7 PRETTY DEVINE looks very well placed by Mack Hall. She won a C5 1300 at Northam back in October and last start at Pinjarra was only 3.5L off Our Rocky Bay and Bleecker Street (races at Ascot on Wednesday). Looks a big chance of crossing and that would only enhance her credentials. JURUENA GOLD has turned a corner and has come of age as a 5 year old. He bolted in last start in good time too. Just the drop back to 1400m that’s an issue. WELL PLAYED hasn’t quite been as sharp when carrying big weights. BE SEATED improves. Numbers: 7 – 3 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – PRETTY DEVINE WIN RACE 8 ON THE MARK showed what he’s capable of last start. He crossed, he led and he romped in by over 3L. He stopped the clock 4.5L faster than C2 average and maybe they’ve figured out how to ride him at this stage of his career. Just let him stride and allow him to be the best horse in the race (because he is). 62kg and barrier 14/14 (without emergencies). Here we go. GOLD KEEPER finished third behind him last start and gets 2kg on him. CHOIXWAY finds a new home and trialled super. Big watch. PATS LAST BANG won well on debut. Numbers: 1 – 7 – 2 – 12 Suggested Bet – ON THE MARK WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 3,5 2,8,10 1,2,3,4,7 1,2,7 Market Market
