Scott Embry’s Thursday Albany Preview Posted on March 14, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 MAKE YOUR POINT returns to the races in Albany after having two runs in town back in September/October. He finished 7L off All Show, Swear To God and then finished less than 4L off Swim Through, Bonjoy and Ex Sport Girl. Recent trial was behind impressive trial winner Yellow Submarine (races Wednesday at Ascot) and strikes a very winnable maiden fresh. KING HALLOWELL trialled well enough for his first start in Albany but never looked comfortable at any stage first-up. Willing to forgive and forget. PENNED finished second to St John in a 1230m maiden back in November. Trial behind Millivoy was nice enough. MY LIBERTY continues to go well at odds. Numbers: 5 – 4 – 3 – 7 Suggested Bet – MAKE YOUR POINT WIN RACE 2 CABLE BOY heads down to Albany after picking up a Westspeed Platinum race at Ascot only two starts ago. He’s drawn to get every chance along the fence and there is a cutaway in play which should ensure they all get a crack in the home straight. GOD’S MOMENT and ROCAPOZZENE have been winning machines this season for Roy Rogers. As we saw when they clashed on 9 February in a C2 there isn’t that much between them. ROCAPOZZENE went out hard last start and was taken on at stages. TREVELLO never far from the action. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 6 – 1 Suggested Bet – CABLE BOY WIN RACE 3 SCENIC STRIKE looked stiff not to win last start. Got held up and knocked around at a crucial stage in the home straight before making a desperate last stride lunge at Grece Lightning. Was unsuccessful in protest but gets another wonderful opportunity here to break through. Still runs his races in patches but looks to have some ability. LE GRAND JEU was really sharp at his return to racing but couldn’t quite reproduce the same turn of acceleration second-up. This is very winnable for him. PRINCE IMORTALL can find the top and give a good kick into the corner. SAFE RAPPA is racing like 1500 will suit. Numbers: 8 – 4 – 5 – 7 Suggested Bet – SCENIC STRIKE WIN RACE 4 THE GREAT ONE was a bit disappointing last start. He was returning from a luckless fifth in a 66+ behind Planet Cash, Rebelzone and Thorogood. He only plugged away into fourth and was beaten 2L by Snippagem. Drops a stack of weight here coming up into a 70+ and after the Rosie Mahony claim. Going to follow up. ARTIES COMET is deep into his preparation but continues to race well. He beat home Brave Contender and The Great One in a C5 1600 at Albany only three starts back. BRAVE CONTENDER was a dominant winner of the Barker Cup after that outing. MORTON’S FORK can sustain a run and wind up out deep. Numbers: 4 – 5 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet – THE GREAT ONE WIN RACE 5 STAR SOPRANO is knocking on the door and ready to win. Second behind God’s Moment in a C2 1300, second behind Catch These Hands in a 58+ 1230 and now backing up off 7 days he drops back in grade and carries a winnable weight after the Rosie Mahony claim. Drawn to enjoy a gun run over the speed and looks to get his chance. DOUBLE THUMBS UP has been up and down in distance this season. Comes back to 1230m here and that’s the distance he won at four starts ago in this grade. SOFIA’S SYMPHONY is racing below her best. DANUBE RIVER broke her maiden well. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet – STAR SOPRANO WIN RACE 6 STAR IN TIME has seemingly worked out what it’s all about since joining the yard of Rebecca Bayliss. Lead throughout last Thursday to win a C2 1500 and 7 days later see no reason why she can’t win another C2 at a mile. Rises 1kg but strikes a similarly moderate line-up. Best part about her last two wins were they were from completely different positions in running. LET HER BOOGIE was thrown in the deep end after breaking her maiden. She went straight into the Ascot 1000 Guineas and was there until the 600. GRECE LIGHTNING was able to hold off Scenic Strike late in his maiden win. Rises 3.5kg which makes life a bit tougher. MINOR DETAIL won well on Esperance Cup Day. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – STAR IN TIME WIN RACE 7 CATCH THESE HANDS is a 3 year old on the rise. He only rises half a kilo after a first-up win at 1230m and the way he raced and the way he extended late and through the line the additional ground is right up his alley. He will concede them a head start but he’s got plenty of ability and looks progressive. BENTLEY BEAU has worked out what it’s all about and is starting to put wins together. Always promised to pinch a few. LITTLE PUNGA and SNIPPAGEM both meet again. LITTLE PUNGA burnt SNIPPAGEM off last week. Numbers: 6 – 3 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet – CATCH THESE HANDS WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,3,4,5 2,3,4,6 1,2,3,5 3,6 Market Market
