Scott Embry’s Wednesday Belmont Preview Posted on March 14, 2023March 14, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 SNIPPENOVA and PLATINUM CLASS both come through a 3 year old Plate behind Street Parade. SNIPPENOVA found the front and kicked hard, shaking off odds on favourite Prawns Eleven in the process, before being swamped late. They meet on level weights again here (both rise 1kg) and provided she gets across without burning too much petrol she should be hard to run down. PLATINUM CLASS chased hard behind Cut The Talk and was far from disgraced sitting on the back of Snippenova last start. Logical danger. DESERT NYMPH has had no luck at two runs back. 6 week freshen and arguably better drawn out than in. JUST A RUMOUR next best. Numbers: 10 – 11 – 12 – 5 Suggested Bet – SNIPPENOVA WIN RACE 2 BECALOTTI and VALDARENA were both ‘be on the next start’ runs on debut. BECALOTTI got back into the field and hit the line well behind Supportive who came out on Sunday and made a mess of C1 opposition to frank the form. VALDARENA got a long way back in a 1000m straight race and was charging to the line under no riding. Both were trial winners leading into their debuts and both look to have plenty of wins in store. Not much between them but siding up narrowly with the impressive replay of VALDARENA, happy to follow that form line. PROPORTRAIT was much better ridden cold second-up. CELEBRITY ICON has ear muffs re-attached. Draw is very awkward. Numbers: 8 – 7 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – VALDARENA WIN RACE 3 SPEAK TO ME has a lot to learn but is clearly a gifted galloper. Don’t think he was overly well suited by the straight race first-up and should only improve with an extra furlong to wind up. William Pike rode him in his trial and jumps aboard here second-up. Between Private Sapling, Wrecked The Rental, Born and Bread and Pacific Lady they’ll go quick and he should get his opportunity to wind up into the race. Don’t get many opportunities to back Willie Pike eachway in a maiden. LOTSAMERIT comes through the same form race as Speak To Me and Valdarena. She’s done nothing wrong in two starts and goes round double figures. YELLOW SUBMARINE was an eye catching trial win when sustaining a powerful run down the centre. MISSILE STORM is still green but won’t be a maiden long. Numbers: 6 – 10 – 7 – 1 Suggested Bet – SPEAK TO ME EACHWAY RACE 4 HOIST THE COLOURS looks an ideal apprentices horse. He’s rock hard fit, he’s backing up off 7 days, he tries his heart out and he has enough tactical speed to settle close handy and stay out of trouble. Hannah Edgley goes at ~13% winning strike rate (L180 days) and that’s very handy for an apprentice (comparison: Holly Watson & Luke Campbell both ~11%). From the draw he should nearly park up outside of Heaps of Moolah or end up one out and one back. COMEALILBITCLOSER simply doesn’t win races. He comes out of a race run 10L faster than C1 average and the winner is now a Listed JC Roberts Stakes victor and on the second line of betting in the WATC Derby. Unfortunately seems to find ways to get rolled. CELEBRITY WITNESS has put in improved runs at two of her last three. DIVINE QUEST can lob out the back and wait for the race to unfold. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 2 – 7 Suggested Bet – HOIST THE COLOURS WIN RACE 5 NYET is no star but he’s good enough to win a maiden. So far in his career he has been priced on expectation (having been a Sales topper) and failed to produce. Last start he showed a little more and he strikes a mile maiden where they two main dangers on paper have a level of query on them (Haydross doesn’t jump, I Love Your Smile tends to get back). Good chance to pinch a maiden from right up over the speed. I LOVE YOUR SMILE and HAYDROSS both come through the same race at Pinjarra where they settled wide and rearward and made sustained runs together. Not much between them. SHAKERATO didn’t go a yard on debut. His trial was much better. Numbers: 6 – 13 – 2 – 8 Suggested Bet – NYET WIN RACE 6 TIGER MOVE will be double figures in this. He’s only having his third run of the preparation but thought he did a great job to hold his own last start in a Westspeed Platinum mile where he finished less than 5L off Mountain Ash, Birdieagle (72+ winner since) and Awesome Chatter (C3 winner since). Drawn to get a soft run and these apprentice races can lend themselves to a result. MAKTASTIC has had two starts in WA: second behind Fine Touch after doing plenty of work up on speed and then second to now Stakes winner Another Chino in a race where they first 1200m was run 12.5L faster than average and he was in the breeze doing all the work. Shouldn’t be long before he breaks through in the State. BANDALERA MISS looks very well suited by the map and has been a model of consistency all campaign. COTCHIN is going alright. Numbers: 6 – 8 – 3 – 13 Suggested Bet – TIGER MOVE EACHWAY RACE 7 RULER ROCKET could prove too quick and powerful over the 1000m. Loved his trial when finding the front, running time and being eased down late underneath talented galloper Rusty Dreams. Will no doubt be looking for the fence from the outside gate and if he can cross then expect they’ll struggle to run him down. If he has to sit in the breeze, he’s still hard to get over. He looks like a Saturday horse in the making. ZOUDINI has his first outing for Trevor Andrews. He can park behind the speed and enjoy a great run into the straight. Second trial was very encouraging. PRINCE AMONGST MEN will appreciate dropping back from 60+ Graduation company. TIFFANY STREET is yet to reproduce since her dominant 2 year old wins. Jury out. Numbers: 2 – 7 – 6 – 3 Suggested Bet – RULER ROCKET WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,2,5,6,7 2,6,8,13 1,3,6,8,13 2 Market Market
