Scott Embry’s Sunday Kalgoorlie Preview Posted on August 25, 2023August 25, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 SET FOR STARDOM has been a tough watch at his two WA runs. First-up in the State he was held up behind a wall of horses before flashing late and then last start he missed away, sat four back the fence and was only getting warm over the last 100m. One more time before we really throw the toys out of the cot. IRISH LUCK made her debut on a Saturday and was only beaten 5.5L by Storm Commander, Swim Through (subsequent 66+ winner) and Little Strawberry (races Saturday at Belmont Park). Drops into a Kalgoorlie maiden. Big respect. ELUSIVE DREAM was sent to the top last start by Pat Carbery and was only run down late by Mooonlight River. HIGH PRESSURE ran well in the same race as Set For Stardom. Numbers: 3 – 9 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet – SET FOR STARDOM WIN RACE 2 LOVE DRUNK BABY is two from three this preparation. Lead and won a 58+ 1100 first-up no trial and then last start lead and won another 58+ at 1200m. He’s been a proven weight carrier over the seasons and should have no trouble working his way to the top again here. Hard to get past. HOLE IN ONE has had a 5 week freshen after not quite finishing off at the same level. He can bounce back. TOWN HALL is the fly in the ointment from a speed perspective – he’s quick and is racing well enough to make a race of it. TOTAL LOCKDOWN has been really popular in betting over the last month or two. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 5 – 4 Suggested Bet – LOVE DRUNK BABY WIN RACE 3 PRINCESS CHUNK is back at the races and will attract a lot of attention. Won her maiden by 6.6L, sat four and five wide winning a C2 in May and then was off the track throughout behind Maidmy Way before heading to Town. Drawn to get the run of the race and is better than C2 company. HIDDEN RUBY has had a really consistent season. She broke her maiden by a margin early in the season and then ran a few luckless yet impressive minor placings before breaking through 7 weeks ago when beating Mr Snips. Has to carry 60kg and has a wide draw to overcome but expect her to hold her own. MR SNIPS has ability but does a lot wrong. SAFE SECRET continues to go well. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – PRINCESS CHUNK WIN RACE 4 MEN’S CLUB, TALK IT UP and DUNBAR give MR Peter Fernie a three-prong attack on the Palace Hotel Gold Rush. MEN’S CLUB was a great find early in the season and no doubt has been aimed up at this for a while. Drawn inside of Talk It Up and can match it with him pace-wise early. TALK IT UP is drawn outside of him but is very quick. They’re likely to control this race provided they don’t cut at each other in the early and middle stages. DUNBAR doesn’t win out of turn but maps well. TURBO POWER was big in the Kambalda Cup when working for the majority of the race. Senior on, drawn well and can hold a spot close handy from the draw. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 8 – 1 Suggested Bet – MEN’S CLUB WIN RACE 5 CAPTAIN ROGERS got a well deserved win on the board last start with a booming L600. He had been running consistently good races from awkward barriers and now that he’s broken through see no reason why he can’t win again in the same grade. TWELVE BELLS was really impressive at his WA debut behind Primitive and then covered plenty of ground last start in the Lucky Foo Foo race. RED CADILLAC stays in Kalgoorlie after being really well supported in her first run on the Goldfields. MINOR DETAIL has a set of shades going on. Can run top 4 Sunday. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 11 – 4 Suggested Bet – CAPTAIN ROGERS WIN RACE 6 GALAXY AFFAIR sat three deep the trip two starts ago when beating stablemate Bird’s The Word. He then finished half a length off Gluten Free in the Kambalda Cup and now in the 2023 Tattersalls Club Cup he has a senior rider going back on and has a barrier to work with. Always raced like he’s easily see out a mile. Nice race for him. LAUGHING BUDDHA deserves a crack at this company. He’s been a revelation in the last 2 months. UTGARD LOKI has his first start for the new stable and behinds his #Cups campaign. ROCKY PATH is absolutely flying. She’s always going to need some luck with her racing pattern however. Numbers: 2 – 8 – 1 – 10 Suggested Bet – GALAXY AFFAIR WIN RACE 7 CALIFORNICATION hasn’t been seen at the races for 9 weeks since running third behind Planet Cash and Sunny Honey in a 3 year old 1400 at Belmont Park. Planet Cash came out and won a 66+ beating the older horses at his next outing and Sunny Honey has since won a 72+ and races again at Belmont on Saturday. Progressive animal. HONEST LEGEND can work his way to the top and seems a different animal when he can pinch a cheap section. KICK A GOAL SON has a senior going back aboard as does GRACE DU ROI who can improve second-up. Numbers: 6 – 4 – 1 – 9 Suggested Bet – CALIFORNICATION WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,2,3,8 1,6,11 2,8,10 1,2,4,6,9 Market Market
