Scott Embry’s Saturday Port Hedland Preview Posted on July 21, 2023July 21, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 SEA WAIF had her first start for Kevin Mahoney and her first start on the dirt. She lead them a merry dance in a C3 1400 at Port Hedland and never looked like being beaten in the run. She drops 1kg here coming up into a 56+ but she looks like leading again. Hard to get past. AMBER HIGHWAY is better than what he showed last start. Been consistent without winning since heading North this season. COMMANDS RESPECT won well in a tiny little field two starts ago. MIETTE STAR is yet to find her feet on the dirt. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – SEA WAIF WIN RACE 2 JAKE THE PEG had his first start on the dirt at Roebourne last Saturday when running second behind Compak. He was wide throughout and loomed large on straightening before blowing out over the concluding stages. Should take great benefit from the run and the experience and now has Austin Galati aboard. CAPE PRIDE continues to run good races but just seems to lack a killer instinct. GINGER CHARM is getting closer and now drops 4kg with Catarino going on. CHAVORIO next best. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – JAKE THE PEG WIN RACE 3 MAGIC OF ZEUS was a shade disappointing last week at Roebourne. He never really travelled the winner at any stage and they never made any impression on the margin that Mistinguette set up in the early and middle stages. Last win was off 6 days at Esperance so the quick back-up looks to suit. AL MAGICO won well last start and even rising 4.5kg with the senior going on looks the hardest to beat. WAR CLASS is better than last week’s effort. KELLYS LASSIE is going super but will she run out the mile? Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – MAGIC OF ZEUS WIN RACE 4 LAND OF VALENS is being sparingly raced by Tom Pike. He is keeping him fresh (winner off 52 days at Ascot, winner off 49 days at Port Hedland) and now attacks hits off a 5 week gap between runs. He had to dig deep to win at Port Hedland last start but the form has been super out of that race (Sixpence Spent, Galiba x2 and Al Magico all subsequent winners). Won over 1300m at Kembla Grange so see no reason to jump off. SIXPENCE SPENT is rising 12 but he’s absolutely flying. Smashed the track record at Marble Bar (if you believe the manually clocked time?) WAR WARRIOR dug deep to win last week. WELD looked the winner last Saturday before being out fought late. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – LAND OF VALENS WIN RACE 5 GALIBA looked hard to beat at Roebourne last week and got the job done with 60kg. 7 days later she backs up at Port Hedland and drops 2.5kg with the claim of ZJP. She’s one tough mare and once she finds form she holds it. Looking to win four of her last five. Flying. CALLING CARD is the stablemate and has Austin Galati jumping on. Gets you wondering whether Kevin Mahoney wanted the weight off Galiba’s back or thinks Calling Card can stretch her neck? ROEY CLAM wasn’t the same horse at Marble Bar. ELAFELLA needs to jump cleanly. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 5 – 4 Suggested Bet – GALIBA WIN RACE 6 WHAT A PRINCE heads North with Bob Bell and only five starts ago won a C3 1400 at Pinjarra under William Pike. Two starts later he finished second behind Sisu Warrior in another C3 1400. If he jumps and finds the front you’d think he’ll be simply too classy for these? SALCHINO is loving life on the dirt and her two wins have been excellent on the clock. She can measure up. JUSTHANDY and SHY BOY are both strong last start winners. Deep race behind What A Prince. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – WHAT A PRINCE WIN Quaddie (Race 3 – 6) 1,2,3 1,3 1,2,5 1 Market Market
