Scott Embry’s Saturday Geraldton Preview Posted on February 27, 2025February 27, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 BLACK SANDS was huge in defeat last start. He settled a mile off them in a race where they strung out over a lot of territory and he grew wings late to flash into second. Hard to have great confidence in a horse who is an 18 start maiden and a hoop who has ridden 4 winners at 3.8% over the last 12 months – but surely he goes close. SHASHENO ran third in the same race but far less impressive. VERMILLION GEM was a big improver last start with race experience. NEW ATTRACTION hit a brick wall at the top of the straight. Numbers: 1 – 9 – 7 – 5 Suggested Bet – BLACK SANDS WIN RACE 2 BLAZEN STAR was solid at his first start for new trainer Mack Hall when parking wide throughout and fighting on into third behind Southland and Dixie Princess. The issue is obvious – he’s drawn barrier 13 and is every chance of being caught deep again. Will need a clean getaway to give Taj Dyson the chance to find a spot. DIXIE PRINCESS is a long time maiden mare but she’s been knocking on the door all campaign. Wins one eventually. SUMMER MOOD was well respected in betting fresh but did a lot wrong. KIMBERLEY CURRENT looks like getting a gun run. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 6 – 1 Suggested Bet – BLAZEN STAR WIN RACE 3 HILLSIDE HORACE was first-up for 75 days at the most recent meeting and finished within 2L of Bolta, The Slap and Southland in a C2. Drops back into a C1, finds a far weaker line-up in terms of opposition and looks to get the right run from the draw. Great chance to win again. LUCKEE FLORAN finished just behind him in the same form reference race and prior to that was second to emerging Mid-West Star On The Mark. LIBERTY DAME has been solid in both runs since resuming. FUZZYBOX is enjoying a consistent prep. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – HILLSIDE HORACE WIN RACE 4 ON THE MARK is really good. Has won three of his last four and his defeat was about as big as you’ll see. Led and won over 1100m with 62.5kg by 5.6L then sat parked three deep outside the leaders over 1400m under 61kg and romped in by 3L. He drops down to 58.5kg, he’s versatile, he’s progressive and he’ll shortly (surely) be in Perth. SAUVEGARDE showed some determination last start to fight off Bonnie Lad who had the drop on her. PRINCE RAGNAR is a jump and run horse and finished only 1.4L behind subsequent winners Rocking Gem and Shooting Spirit at Pinjarra. SURE NO SOMETHING has had a great prep. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet – ON THE MARK WIN RACE 5 SPARKLE CORNER hasn’t raced for 35 days since an eye catching run at Ascot. In that event he missed away and then still only finished 3L off Memory Parade, Our Mate Archie and stablemate Sure No Something. Back to his home track, freshened up and should land into a prominent position. Can bounce back. QUEEN TIFFANY has won her last two in style. The market loves her and she’s racing accordingly. HOW PRETTY is always competitive in these c58+ races. THE RUSH has been thereabouts all season. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – SPARKLE CORNER WIN RACE 6 FORBIDDEN APPLE was plunged in betting two back at Geraldton in a C2 and duly saluted and then Sean Rains took her down to Pinjarra on Magic Millions Day where she was $21 into $14 and with even luck looked like she was ready to play a part in the finish. Held up the entire length of the home straight, untested and went to the line bolting. Back to Geraldton and Tash Faithfull riding. Lots to like. MIFF MUFFERED MOOF is a tough mare. She’s been in form for months now. BOMBAY STYLE is the class horse and rarely sighted in 64+ grade. TRADED CROWN doesn’t stay? Numbers: 6 – 9 – 1 – 10 Suggested Bet – FORBIDDEN APPLE WIN RACE 7 COLLECTIVE was a ‘be on me next start’ run three back, and two back and again last start. That’s the kind of mare she is – you’ll need some patience with her as a punter because she’s got no early or tactical speed and leaves herself vulnerable with such a negative racing pattern. She’s flying, she’s right back in grade and she’s better drawn barrier 11 then barrier 1. In Yuilly we trust. FINANCE LEGEND proved last start he runs the trip. A LOT OF CLASS was set a task first-up at 1600m. Fitter for the run. ZERA BLUE a watch. Numbers: 1 – 8 – 6 – 12 Suggested Bet – COLLECTIVE WIN Market Market
