Scott Embry’s Saturday Esperance Preview Posted on January 30, 2025January 30, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 MANGANUI is the only horse in the field who didn’t race last Saturday and the last time he did he beat home a few key rivals, most importantly Sugared Up. This will all come down to who gets the best run in transit and happy to back in Tash Faithfull in that situation. SUGARED UP went really close to holding out the well supported favourite last week and is again on the 7 day spin. ELOUNDA STAR gave plenty of cheek in that race after meeting with support at odds. NADELL is better suited drawn off fence compared to last week. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 8 – 7 Suggested Bet – MANGANUI WIN RACE 2 ROGUE’S POINT does look really well placed by Anthony Barton. First-up at Ascot was only 1.5L off subsequent winner Hostile Talk and highly promising galloper Kraken Time and then last start found himself in a swoopers/off fence race/meeting. Ready for the mile and can lead these comfortably. I AM SPARTACUS is deserving of another victory and will love the fact that Uncompromised isn’t here. Ready. WHEATSTACK THIEF is capable at this level and has 6kg on that pair. KALLAROO next best. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 7 – 4 Suggested Bet – ROGUE’S POINT WIN RACE 3 SURE THING has his first start in WA and will lead these on exposed form. Led at five of his last six outings in Victoria and gives John Kissick a great chance at opening his account back in the State. Big watch. AWEEMAWAY went close on a few occasions early in his Kalgoorlie preparation for Brett Drury his last four outings. Trial was fair. ARCTIC FOX was good first-up and the fence wasn’t nearly as bad last week. ESSENTIALLY was a month between runs heading down to Esperance and should only improve. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 9 – 8 Suggested Bet – SURE THING WIN RACE 4 BOOZEROO just continues to show up for punters. He’s now won 5 races in Esperance and Josh Brown isn’t afraid to pick the eyes out of the program and simply run him when the programming suits. Last win was off 33 days, heads into this off 37 days. Looks deliberate and so we’ll trust the process. DEBONNAIRE is racing 3 – 4L below what he was producing on the Goldfields. BLAZING PASSION is going along alright. SOME SORT showed his first glimpse of form for a long, long time last week. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 6 – 4 Suggested Bet – BOOZEROO WIN RACE 5 CHOIXWAY has had two runs for Anthony Barton and they’ve produced a strong weight carrying win in a C2 at Geraldton and then a really solid effort into fifth behind Parnham pair Caporetto and Zouboltz in a C3 midweek at Ascot. Always prefer if they’re drawn off fence at Esperance but last week Simone Altieri got them into the moving line mid-race and expect she’ll look to do the same here. CRUNCHY NUT is in great form and looms as the biggest danger (and possibly even favourite?). Big respect for him. KENNY THE KING is flying. HABIB is tracking along well. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 6 – 4 Suggested Bet – CHOIXWAY WIN RACE 6 WEST COAST WARRIOR was plunged last start and again was forced to cover ground three deep the trip and was left a sitting duck late. He’s run his four best races of his life for new trainer Gary Burger and fingers crossed he can lob a spot here because he’s really knocking on the door. PRIZED JEWEL was a really impressive winner last week. Like a lot of horses at this meeting is on the ‘double back-up’ which is always an unknown but if she can reproduce that late turn of foot she’ll be hard to hold out again. EVERLASTING SPIRIT won well. SMALL TOWN RUBY is going super. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 6 – 7 Suggested Bet – WEST COAST WARRIOR WIN RACE 7 ROYAL ACCOLADE has turned a corner in Esperance and is going really well. He’s no star but she’s showing a toughness that was missing from his racing over his previous preparations. Gets some weight relief and has had a freshen. UNIVERSAL PLAYBOY was too good for The Bay Of Isles Bullet but no match late for an impressive newcomer to WA in Zebedee Springs. Do have a query on whether he’s going to run out a strong 1200m, especially with 61kg but that race last week produced a big rating so expect he’s the one the market will want. DEMETRIOUS won effortlessly. FAVAIOS deserved one. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – ROYAL ACCOLADE WIN Market Market
