Scott Embry’s Saturday Ascot Preview

RACE 1

REVITUP is very quick and with the claim for Holly Watson gets in at an attractive 54kg. Only had two starts and has beaten Snowdome and then been nailed on the post by promising youngster Man Crush. If she can cross those inside her and find the fence then it looks a wonderful assignment for her. Warm day, Easterly breeze, race experience, lots to like. NUNES was a seriously good trial and while he doesn’t have many horses Tony Ward can produce a youngster. Will get back from the draw but looks to have a motor and a turn of speed. MRS KANGAROO looks another Dion Luciani jump and run filly. CIAO LUNA was a high price yearling and has schooled up well.

Numbers: 1 – 11 – 10 – 8

Suggested Bet – REVITUP WIN

RACE 2

VADETTE DE STAR draws a barrier for the first time in the preparation. Very similar to stablemate Angelic Miss in the Jungle Mist last start from the inside gate Chris Parnham will need to time his run and pick and choose his path through the field but she does look ready to win. Has been reeling off huge sections from impossible positions so far this campaign and now looks her best chance yet to salute. MERCANTO was a tough watch last start and is absolutely flying. Think he’ll be a 72+/78+ type by the end of this preparation. Only query is whether he can settle last of the 10 and circle them on a day that’s predicted to be leaders/rail dominated. VANE TEMPEST was strong in the Fillies & Mares race last start. This is much easier. SCANDOLO was huge last weekend.

Numbers: 6 – 4 – 1 – 8

Suggested Bet – VADETTE DE STAR EACHWAY

RACE 3

ZIEBELL has the names against his form that get you excited for a 71+ 1100m. First-up and second-up he has simply gone way too hard under 3kg claimers who didn’t seem to either be able to, or interested in, holding onto him in the middle stages. Has run some of the quickest mid stage sections of the season to date and his most recent effort was in front of the following horses with 100m to go: Secret Plan, Triple Missile, Son Of A God and Hot Zed. Super form for a race like this and a senior rider goes on. WRITTEN MATTER has had four starts for 3 wins and looks well and truly above average. Drawn a little awkwardly but with Ziebell and Kenyluck likely to string the out CJP should get in. NIGHT VOYAGE is flying and Summer Dickson has him back to near career best form. FOREST WAR is going well.

Numbers: 1 – 4 – 9 – 6

Suggested Bet – ZIEBELL WIN

RACE 4

RELIABLE STAR looks like she is ready to peak and Bob Peters times his run to perfection by finally re-engaging William Pike to riding duties. Last two starts has finished second behind highly talented and emerging Perth Cup prospect in Pure Devotion. Can not underestimate just how much senior riders are worth in staying races and William Pike rides them better than anyone. His favourite position in the staying races is three back the fence and he’s likely to have this mare pretty much in his favourite spot. From there he’ll back himself into finding a way clear and we’ll back him to do the same. BLACK SHADOW is ready and gets considerable weight off Reliable Star with Pike going on. Should get across to a nice enough position with speed drawn outside. YADREAMIN’ is going well but will need a back to follow. PERSISTENCE TIME will be 200-1 on the jump. Fresh run was super. Don’t completely discount.

Numbers: 4 – 2 – 15 – 11

Suggested Bet – RELIABLE STAR WIN

RACE 5

COMFORT ME put the writing on the wall in the Railway Stakes and showed he has some good races in him. Won back to back 72+ ratings races under Mitchell Pateman and Rhys Radford was faced with the decision of: A) Going to the Railway and seeing just how good he is; or B) Going to the Carbine Club and going around $2.50. Rhys chose to go to the Railway Stakes and he showed he’s more than up to Group Level. WFA is yet another test for him but the horse is in career best form. Seems to run for Pateman and should be going close to recording his first Black Type win. MASSIMO is no slouch and meets him 4.5kg better at the weights coming out of the Railway. Last time he was in a 1400m WFA he won (Lee Steere Stakes) and should find the front and control the speed. STAGEMAN will be saved up for one last crack at them. If it turns into a sit – sprint he’s suited. RED CAN MAN got no luck last week. He’s proven at WFA.

Numbers: 6 – 3 – 4 – 5

Suggested Bet – COMFORT ME WIN

RACE 6

LIWA and STAY SAFE give Simon Miller a powerful hand in the 2021 Tabtouch Sir Ernest Lee Steere Classic. LIWA was stiff in the Placid Ark when not getting clear until late in the race and flashing unsuccessfully in the final strides at tough on speed filly Flying Missile. Only gets 0.5kg weight swing on her at SWP but the extra furlong looks perfect for her and so does the barrier. Always needs an ounce of luck but has a sharp point to point turn of speed. STAY SAFE ran second to It’sarayday in the Fairetha and second to Treasured Star in the WA Guineas. Form doesn’t get any better than that and only being a Northam maiden winner mean’s he’s on the minimum (for the boys). FLYING MISSILE is on her limit at 1400m but did run third behind Buzzoom and Searchin’ Roc’s in the Burgess Queen (1400). REAL DANGER reeled off some slick closing splits last start. Barrier hurts (again).

Numbers: 1 – 3 – 2 – 8

Suggested Bet – LIWA WIN

RACE 7

SHEZA CHALMER and BRIGHT DIAMOND were both tough watching for backers in the first leg of the Fillies & Mares series. Both were equally as impressive for different reasons and both could have gone close to winning if there were runs for them to take. From the barrier expecting that they will settle one out and one back (Bright Diamond) and one out and two back (SHEZA CHALMER) which should ensure that William Pike and Patrick Carbery both get nice runs midfield and then a lot will come down to luck and tactics. If SHEZA CHAMLER stays out of trouble think she’s the better horse. BRIGHT DIAMOND will enjoy a great run and she’s only missed the money once in her life and that was last start when everything went wrong for her. Hard to fault. BAM’S ON FIRE is really well suited to SWP and showed last start she’ll be more than competitive. ANGELIC MISS is a weapon but from the barrier settles a long way off them.

Numbers: 5 – 9 – 1 – 4

Suggested Bet – SHEZA CHALMER WIN

RACE 8

WESTERN EMPIRE holds a mortgage over the Kingston Town Classic. $1.35 fixed odds means that by the time that they jump there is a genuine possibility that all other rivals are in double figures and from a percentage perspective means that punters believe he is a 74% chance of returning a winner. No doubt many will argue that he’s even more likely to salute than that but at least after the barrier draw on Tuesday evening William Pike will need to make a few key tactical decisions at various stages from a tricky alley. Expecting him to get the job done but the first 400m will make for interesting viewing. SEARCHIN’ ROC’S gets in with 50kg as a 3 year old filly at WFA in December. Should get a gun run and hoping she can extend the run that the youngsters have in this race with a top 3 finish. REGAL POWER is a proven WFA horse and his run in the Lee Steere was super. NOTORIOUS ONE is all X-Factor and no racing brain.

Numbers: 7 – 10 – 1 – 6

Suggested Bet – WESTERN EMPIRE / SEARCHIN’ ROC’S EXACTA

RACE 9

EXPRESSIONIST showed last start that he does have the ability to put a few together. In the words of Bob Peters ‘he has been a test of patience but looks ready to reward that patience this campaign’. William Pike looks to have another big book of rides on the final Group One day and he is every chance of ending the day on a high. BENJI’S almost looked to put his head up fresh when hitting the front. Really like the fact Cliff Green has gone straight to a set of shades to keep his mind on the job. CASTILLO DEL LAGO is a different horse when he finds the fence. If he can cross, he can improve out of sight. MEMORABLE MISS is going through the grades nicely.

Numbers: 2 – 8 – 4 – 9

Suggested Bet – EXPRESSIONIST WIN
