Scott Embry’s Saturday Newman Preview Posted on August 20, 2026August 20, 2026 | Posted by Scott Embry Race 1 TORQUED UP won a C3 1200 at Port Hedland earlier in the year and hten has gradually got out further and further in trip. On Port Hedland Cup Day the Blinkers were reapplied and they had a decent effect with him finishing second to plunge winner Playing Quest. Looks a winnable race for him provided he runs out the distance. HUNDRED YARDS nearly beat Only Us at Carnarvon in a 56+ 1600 three starts back. The wheels have fallen off big time since then. MYSTICAL MAN will need to be put into the contest at a distance short of his best trip. MAGIC SHOT is the only runner with a senior rider and in these races that can mean plenty. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – TORQUED UP WIN Race 2 TOPAZ led and won the Mares Race on Ladies Day in Broome and then backed up 4 days later into a 64+ 1300. Didn’t jump, didn’t lead and best to forget she was even there. Different horse when she has clear galloping room so you’re more or less punting on her stepping cleanly. CHANTILLY GIRL bounced back to form brilliantly at Port Hedland in a C3 1300 two back when leading and winning by a near 6L margin. She then went to Broome and wasn’t the same horse when leading and fading out to be beaten 5L behind The Top Bar and Schuhbeck. Hit or miss type. LEADING TADDY won well at the opening meeting at Port Hedland and then hasn’t gone anywhere near as well since. Is now down to a lower rating than where he resumed this campaign at. MY TEA was no match for Chantilly Girl last start. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – TOPAZ WIN Race 3 RULESQUE was able to gun down stablemate Dust Aside last start at 1300m at Broome and with the third placed horse Solar System coming out and winning on Cup Day it only makes the form look stronger. Think she’ll get a similar stalking run here and while this race has more depth to it he’s the kind of horse who doesn’t know how to run a bad race and importantly won at Newman in 2025. Jody McLaughlin going at 18% – ludicrous. DELICATE RULER led and won at 1100 and then was only gunned down late at his next outing. Must lead and from barrier 1 expect that Simone Altieri will throw the kitchen sink at him in the first furlong. FAMEUX finds this far easier than the Broome Sprint. Nicely placed back into a 56+ and does carry weight (placed under 62.5). IMPERIALIZE will slide across for a very in form and confident apprentice. Numbers: 6 – 2 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – RULESQUE WIN Race 4 COONDLE had been building and building into the season at Broome for Sue Olive and now heads to Newman with new trainer Leigh Murray. He finished second to What’s The Point in a C2 1200 and then was able to get the better of a pair of subsequent winners in Solar System and The Top Bar in his most recent. Didn’t get a start on Cup Day to heads into this 3 weeks between runs and it looks a great race for him on paper. LA SIGNORA DANE hasn’t won a race on the dirt but she’s finished second to Imperialize and second to Fameux, both in higher grade. ESQUEL is really speedy and coming back to 1200m helps. Like the way that Ebony Johnson gets them out of the gates, right rider. TAKE THE FIELD finally got his maiden out of the way at Port Hedland. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – COONDLE WIN Race 5 BORDER CONTROL got back to somewhere near his best form with back to back wins at Roebourne and Port Hedland before heading into the Broome Sprint. They were all blown up by Now You See Me and for many horses they were gone at the 800. Plenty to forgive and forget and he was one of them. HELL I AM ran second in that event and beat him home by a 14.5L margin. He has been getting slowly but surely better on the dirt with each outing and this presents as a winnable race now. GIFT OF THE HEART didn’t jump on Cup Day and that was game over for him. Prior win over Fire the Guard was impressive. ROYALZEL has all the same form as Border Control and a big pull in the weights. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – BORDER CONTROL WIN Race 6 LETSDEAL is backing up off 7 days out of the Broome Cup where he ran second to Kings Sicario. That was his best run of the season on the dirt and on the quick back-up into the Newman Cup he looks the one to beat. Always the kind of race where horses are put into the contest sooner rather than later and that high pressure scenario suits him well. LUCKY LANDING has won two of his last three and while he’s yet to be proven at a trip he’s afforded a great opportunity to do so under the 55kg of Jefferson Tsang. Stablemates ANOTHER NEWPHEW and DYNAMIC ONE also come through solid runs in the Broome Cup, with a 5kg weight swing in favour of ANOTHER NEPHEW with the apprentice engaged. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 5 – 1 Suggested Bet – LETSDEAL WIN Quaddie (Race 3 – 6) 1,2,6 2,3,4 2,3,4,5,6 1,2,4,5 Market Market
