Scott Embry’s Saturday Belmont Preview Posted on August 20, 2026August 20, 2026 | Posted by Scott Embry Race 1 SUNSET SESSION was some sort of go in betting last start – $7 into $2.70 (deductions negligible) and ran alright behind Niccimota and Eternal Wine, both of whom progress to the 66+ 1000 whilst he drops back into a Westspeed Platinum. Has been going well all preparation and this does look a winnable race on paper for him. Likely to settle alongside main danger SO SI GOD who looked really stylish in a recent barrier trial and has already proven herself to be 60+ Grad quality. Think this is the preparation she can work her way through the grades but wary she’s not a natural 1000 horse and will jump short. SESH has just gone from strength to strength since a confidence boosting 46+ win at York a few months ago. SPANISH ARMADA is a tough on speeder. Numbers: 3 – 6 – 2 – 7 Suggested Bet – SUNSET SESSION WIN Race 2 DAWN DANCER won an all age maiden as a 2 year old taking on the older horses on 9 July at 1:47pm and then 47 hours later on 11 July at 12:48pm backed up into a 2 year old SWP and ran them ragged beating Morning Thunder (prior Saturday winner) and Spinarella (subsequent Saturday winner). She’s had a 6 week freshen and a very sharp 400m jump out in between and on the 55kg minimum of this race should be in front for a long way at an eachway quote (which should get better and better through betting). Why can’t she win? ETERNAL WINE has drawn awkwardly her last three (10/13, 10/10 & 8/10). This is the best barrier/map pairing she has seen in a while and Michael Lane books William Pike. Big respect. EXCESS BAGGAGE is flying and if she is only one pair further back than Eternal Wine on straightening it’s very much game on. NICCIMOTA got conditions to suit first-up and bolted in. Big win but this is harder. Numbers: 8 – 6 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet – DAWN DANCER EACHWAY Race 3 WITH DISCRETION looked your typical Cerise and White progressive staying type when he went 7 days from a 1400 to a 2100 and made a mess of them. A fortnight later he struck a Soft7 (which was later downgraded to a Heavy8 and then a Heavy9) and he drew to settle three back fence – ugly. Complete forgive run and now back onto an improving surface expect he’ll bounce back with a vengeance. CHOLLIMA missed a run a fortnight ago so comes into this 4 weeks between outings but her effort behind With Discretion on 25 July was really encouraging. She’s ready to win. WARRALEA LASS can roll to the top in a race that is completely devoid of any speed / pressure. ROMMEO has been there abouts in this grade for a long time and got an overdue win on the board last start. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 8 – 4 Suggested Bet – WITH DISCRETION WIN Race 4 CINQUE STELLE could just be a really nice mare in the making. The market has taken a serious set against her in her last two outings and it just goes to show ‘the market doesn’t always know!’. After opening odds on last start she got out to $4 and beyond late in betting and after ducking back to the inferior inside part of the track simply blew her rivals to pieces. That was the win of a mare who would just keep winning and if she can show that same turn of foot at 1600m as she did at 1100 and then 1400 then she’ll be working her way into Open Class. HEAVEN SPECIFIED was brilliantly placed into a Westspeed Platinum last start by a very in form Trevor Andrews operation. Can lead if nobody else wants to. TRIPLE THE CHANT scratched from a winnable race Thursday to save for this. COSMIC WALTZ has returned in really good order. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 6 – 7 Suggested Bet – CINQUE STELLE WIN Race 5 ROGUE RULER ran well on debut behind Beatty and Consignment in the Crystal Slipper Stakes. With Beatty going on to win a Perth Stakes, finish second in a Karrakatta Plate and win a WA Sires Produce the form line is always going to be attractive and he now returns as a gelded 3 year old with a set of blinkers applied for the first time. Quite liked his recent trial and he looks like going around at double figures. Worth consideration fresh. GAINTREE missed a run with a hoof abscess a fortnight ago so headed back to Belmont trials Monday where she covered the ground effortlessly in a trial where the first two cleared out from rivals. MARCOS went head to head with Flying Maradona down the home straight at Northam in a high rating C1 event. SPINARELLA won well last start but a bit of a query on that Soft7/Heavy8 form where many of them were spinning the wheels. Numbers: 5 – 10 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet – ROGUE RULER EACHWAY Race 6 LORD SHIVA left no stone unturned last weekend with a high-speed exhibition. They never looked like running him down at any stage of the race and he held them to a safe and comfortable 1.3L margin. 7 days later he drops 4kg in weight, draws to again lead and the only real X-Factor / unknown element is how they’re intending to ride King Adviso 6 weeks between runs. Hopefully they don’t cut at each other in the early/middle stages? ASIF is the likely big beneficiary if they do lock horns in a battle for the fence. Thought he had his chance fresh to run down Hey Pino and may have just peaked late. HEY PINO may have to drop out to last? Hurts. KING ADVISO’s best and worst are 20L apart. Not sure which version you’ll get. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 7 – 6 Suggested Bet – LORD SHIVA WIN Race 7 KING OF LIGHT could be WA’s best horse. 2 from 2 undefeated as a 2 year old, 3 year old winner of a Belgravia Stakes, Fairetha Stakes and WA Guineas before suffering the first defeat of his life in the Group One WFA Northerly Stakes where he got knocked around by the big boys and had simply had enough. Couldn’t have trialled up any better for his return to racing and should be far too sharp and progressive for his older winter rivals. Has the profile of a horse who could jump $1.30/$1.32. SNOWDOME has been brave in defeat in the H.G Bolton and Belmont Newmarket and will land in a similar spot in running yet again. FLURO NEURO gets the majority of recent rivals better at the weights heading into WFA conditions and is always dangerous late with a soft run. GINGER BAKER ran third last year in this race off a near identical freshen. Numbers: 9 – 2 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet – KING OF LIGHT WIN Same Race Multi – King of Light (Win) + Fluro Neuro (Top 4) King of Light resumes and will be all the rage. He’s $1.60 Wednesday evening, feel he jumps closer to $1.38/$1.40 Saturday. He’ll have too much fire power for these older rivals. Fluro Neuro gets it cheap three back the fence and that’s where he likes it. Just needs to cut through traffic late and run Top 4. Race 8 SEARCHIN’ TIMES won her first four races for new trainer Summer Dickson progressing from a maiden to a C1 to a C3 to a 60+ Graduation in the space of 48 days. Didn’t get the right run in her 66+ attempt when the winning streak came to an end and then first-up earlier this campaign endured a torrid run from start to finish. Actually thought all things considered she still found the line alright and now 7 weeks later she’s back at the races again. If she gets in early, she’ll be hard to hold out late. COMMON TOUCH and ALLENTOWN went toe to toe from start to finish last start in a messy game of cat and mouse between riders. They’re drawn barriers 11 & 12 respectively here as they meet again. Who hands up? REFEMME NO ANGEL is Pike in the last on the day that he is inducted into the WA Racing Hall of Fame – iconic if he wins. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – SEARCHIN’ TIMES EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 1,2,3,5,9,10 3,5,7,8 9 1,2,5,6 Market Market
