Scott Embry’s Saturday Albany Preview Posted on March 14, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 THE SPRUIKER won a 66+ in town only three starts back beating Birdieagle (subsequent winner), Mojo’s Luck (subsequent winner), Without Reg (subsequent winner) and place getters Fluro Neuro and Keep Attacking (races Saturday at Ascot). After the Rosie Mahony claim he looks to be in with a winnable weight in the small field. PRO IS HERE has grown a leg since heading down to Esperance. Jon Jachmann brings him back to Albany and he can roll to the top. ROCK OF KAHA drops a whopping 9.5kg after the Cooper claim (MRW 51kg). He’s more than capable. LETSDEAL is the class runner but has 64kg on his back. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 6 – 1 Suggested Bet – THE SPRUIKER WIN RACE 2 ROUNDABOUT GLORY split Justabittapress and Play Dice at his second career outing. That is a serious hot form reference for a country maiden. Comes into this fresh without a trial and Paul Roberts opts to use the 2kg claim of Cassey Martinan. Should be right up over the speed and should be hard to hold out. HYPERREAL has done a lot of his racing down the 1000m straight but can kick through to lead them round the bend. SIR BEAR A LOT tried hard in his initial preparation and wasn’t far from the winners. HOW PRETTY would have raced at Mingenew last weekend. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet – ROUNDABOUT GLORY WIN RACE 3 STATE OF FURY heads down to Albany with DMac’s travelling team and while she’s drawn barrier 10 of 10 she has to be one of the main players in this. Resumed down the 1000m straight at Pinjarra and that was a race that contained a lot of very nice trial horses (Ahyeahrighto, Ain’tsobad, Centre Bond, Kraken Time as well as On A Winning Day who had good race form). Happy to follow that through to this event. SHOOTING KONTIKI was well found in betting last start and ran really well. Knocking on the door. BLACK SANDS was well in the market last campaign. PUNTERS PILOT comes back in trip, not convinced on that. Numbers: 9 – 2 – 7 – 3 Suggested Bet – STATE OF FURY WIN RACE 4 FRANTIC WAR has now won back to back races for Bec Bayliss and again looks the testing material. His C2 1000m win was 4.5L faster than average and then he backed it up with an even stronger win in a 58+ 1100 when they stopped the clock 3L faster than average. We’ve already seen both Pennies Galore and Prince Ragnar win out of those two races and so it’s hard to ignore the form. RUSSIAN SNIPER gets back and has a big turn of foot. With a clear run at them he’s hard to hold out. BLUE LINE comes into this fresh and is more than capable at this level. LOOKS is enigmatic. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – FRANTIC WAR WIN RACE 5 PENNIES GALORE finished second in a fast run race behind Frantic War and then was annihilated in betting last start when leading and winning. See no reason why she can’t cross them again and run them ragged in the exact same manner as last start. Carries the same weight after the Cassey Martinan claim and looks quick enough early to get out and across. FLYING SOUTH finished second in that same race and attacked the line well. KING HALLOWELL was too good for Hot Chatter last Sunday. Repeats the performance and goes close again. SALARY MAN is better than what he produced last start. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 5 – 2 Suggested Bet – PENNIES GALORE WIN RACE 6 HENRY THE AVIATOR had four runs when last in work – all in 70+ company and he ran into the likes of Beau Zoom, Trade War, Oxbridge and then Supersession in the Fitzpatrick Plate. Paul Hunter finds a really nice C5 for him on the program and he’s got the turn of foot to gun these down. Like this race for him and at his best he would be winning. COCOON BAY has had an on and off preparation but her first-up win under Rosie Mahony was a similar set up to this. SACRED OATH has run well in two runs in WA and now has no weight. MILLIVOY is always well found in betting. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 9 – 4 Suggested Bet – HENRY THE AVIATOR WIN RACE 7 BEATS OF WAR won three on the bounce and then hasn’t beaten a horse home at his latest two. Had genuine excuses two starts back in the Tiff’s Lad race when pulling fiercely for the first 1000m and then last start hit yet another slowly run race where he ended up back in the field in a race dominated from the top (winner leader’s back and second placed was the pacemaker). Forgiving and following him into this. HOIST THE COLOURS rarely runs a bad race and will park on the speed. STAADEN is slowly but surely improving into the campaign. EX SPORT MAN showed last campaign that he can stay. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – BEATS OF WAR WIN RACE 8 WHY ME backs up off 6 days after breaking his maiden over 1600m on Cup Day. He went around at $1.55 and while he only just got the job done it was worth remembering: 1) he was almost the only horse to win all day off the fence; and 2) he was 1200m to 1600m. Should improve sharply off that and while he’s now out to 1920m he looks the class runner. DECORATION heads down with Team Pearce and you wonder whether Steve Wolfe wanted to claim or whether Tash Faithfull has elected to ride Decoration. Either way he looks the danger. RED WITH TED continues to go well at odds. DEADLY AND FAST continues to attack the line from a long way back. Numbers: 6 – 3 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet – WHY ME WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 1,3,5 1,4,5,9 2,3 3,6 Market Market
