Scott Embry’s Friday Albany Preview Posted on February 8, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 PUNTERS PILOT looks to have found his race. Second behind Soldiers Camp first-up, unsuccessfully plunged second-up behind Deadly And Fast and then second to Clever Combat last start. Gets out to a mile, they swap blinkers for winkers and he should be able to slide across the face of the field to take up a prominent position here. Runs out the mile and should be hard to beat. POWER OF RED has been getting a long way back in shorter races and finding the line. Racing like he wants more ground. BELLE NOIRE an improver in an easier maiden. Trial was sound leading into this prep. IT’S A BREEZE improved out of sight last start. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 8 – 5 Suggested Bet – PUNTERS PILOT WIN RACE 2 WHY ME looks the stand out in this race. Second to highly talented stablemate Rope Them In in a 2 year old SWP on a Saturday and then second to Red Square in a 2 year old OMW at the midweeks before competing in another 3x Saturday Plates at the back end of last campaign. First-up, no trial so you take SJ Wolfe Racing on trust that he’s up and about and ready to go. Best horse in the race by lengths. SUPER SNIPPY has finished in the money at 4 of 11 and hasn’t had the best of luck throughout his career. Finished 4L off Lord Shiva two back and then finished 4.5L off Call Of Duty last start. Big beaten margins but by progressive 3 year olds. Shades going on and into an easier class of maiden a big bonus. PRINCE VICTORY has some X-Factor about him. Raw. SPEARFISH was good last start. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 3 – 8 Suggested Bet – WHY ME WIN RACE 3 MANHATTAN STRIP is really well placed. Team Pearce love finding these c70+ races with their metro horses and he has to be a massive chance in this event. Blinkers go on, he’s drawn well, he maps well and only three starts back he won a 60+ Graduation at Ascot. Looks a super race for him carrying 3kg less than last start going from a Saturday at Ascot to a Friday at Albany. KOHLI raced around in the Fitzpatrick Plate and the Mt Barker Sprint after winning a 58+ first-up with a whopping 63.5kg on his back. Only finishing 2.5L off Supersession in the Mt barker Sprint shows that he’s still in good order. 1500m for the first time the only real unknown. ANNIHILATOR should get it cheap up top. SOWAR likely needs further? Numbers: 6 – 2 – 5 – 3 Suggested Bet – MANHATTAN STRIP WIN RACE 4 DEADLY AND FAST was powering home late last start behind Beautiful Baroque and now gets both a weight swing and a barrier advantage over her. Took a long time for him to break maiden status but he’s returned lengths better than any other campaign. BEAUTIFUL BAROQUE looked in trouble at the 600 but kept coming bravely under pressure to win last start. Love the way she’s going about it. WHO BE WHATEE has been tested over 1600m recently and continues to fight on late so the step to 1920m looks something he’ll handle, especially from the soft draw. YES OF COURSE can kick through to lead and that’s a big plus. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 2 – 7 Suggested Bet – DEADLY AND FAST WIN RACE 5 OREGON HIKER should be a nice jump and run country type. There’s going to be plenty of speed in this but if Ava Catarino can get him out of the gates and use barrier 4 to her advantage then he looks one of the main players. Ran into Snippy Which last start who has since won a 3 year old Plate on a Saturday and carries 3kg less in a country C2. Nice race for him on paper. WORK IN PROGRESS has had over 2 months between runs. Stiff to run into a horse like Oxbridge first-up and now drops from a 58+ back into a C2. FRANTIC WAR joins Bec Bayliss and her team has been on fire all season. PENNIES GALORE was a big improver second-up. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 3 – 9 Suggested Bet – OREGON HIKER WIN RACE 6 HOOLAHOOPS was the replay run of the race behind Antique Miss last start in a 60= Graduation at Ascot. Went around 100-1, settled last and was doing her best work late and through the line. Everything from Angela Smith’s team is jumping out of the ground and you’d have to follow through with her here. VONSNIP won a 58+ at Albany two starts back on Fitzpatrick Plate day beating Star In Time who gave wild amounts of cheek last Sunday at Bunbury and then went to town to contest a Westspeed Platinum and was far from disgraced beaten under 2L by Here For Cheques. Going super. They look the two. CANDIJAY had a good start to the campaign. NATURAL SPICE can lead and control. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 7 – 3 Suggested Bet – HOOLAHOOPS WIN RACE 7 AGENT JAY had his first start in the Great Southernn for Stephen Sheehy and was only run down late by Exceltrain who heads straight back to town and contests a 60+ Graduation on Saturday. He has come back down so far in the ratings that he should be plenty of fun for the remainder of the Albany season and he races up on speed. Ready to win again. MILLIVOY comes through the same race. Can be forgiven and prior form was sound including winning this track/distance/grade four starts back. VILLAGE GIRL doesn’t know how to run a bad race and gets it soft along the inside. STARAUTHORESS an improver. Numbers: 3 – 7 – 5 – 9 Suggested Bet – AGENT JAY WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 2,3,4,5,7,8 1,2,3,6,9 2,5 3,5,7 Market Market
