Scott Emrbry’s Saturday Leonora Preview Posted on October 9, 2026October 9, 2026 | Posted by Scott Embry Race 1 BUON AMICI has the unknown of being first time on the dirt but most years Brett Drury’s team run well at Leonora / Leinster / Laverton and expecting that he’ll take beating. Last seen in a C2 behind Blood Brother and held his own from three back the fence. The encouraging part is that he broke his maiden leading and winning and placed in a C3 after leading too, so he has some tactical speed which is huge for a first timer on the dirt. OLE GRANDE led and won a 1200m maiden at Broome. At his next outing he dropped back to 1000, couldn’t lead and couldn’t win. Last time out went to Moora and was only beaten 2L to Mars Mission, Weapons Hot and Schuhbeck in a 56+. Well placed. RACY RASCAL has been trying hard in the Kal maidens. DONATALLY next best. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – BUON AMICI WIN Race 2 (Best Bet) SHIMARI sat in the breeze and ran third behind Sovereign Crust and subsequent maiden winner Peanut Butter two back at Kalgoorlie. Quite simply, if Sharni Webster can use the gate to advantage, lead and stay out of trouble then she should have too much speed and ability for these. TINY CHAMPION ran third behind Coupe Deburj and Danea Rock at Junction after parking wide throughout and then again ran third at Mingenew in the Class B Trophy Race behind Quick Cookie and Danea Rock. 1400 back to 1200m is a slight concern but Meg Forrester’s team is going well and this isn’t a strong line-up. TEDESCHI ran third in a 1000m maiden at Carnarvon three back. That run is good enough, the Junction and Mingenew runs leave a bit to be desired. I AM A ROCKSTAR a watch at his WA debut. Numbers: 4 – 7 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – SHIMARI WIN Race 3 RULING DAME has been going well recently. Second to Must be Nice in a C2, fourth to Gold Enigma in a C2, fourth to Lendanear in a C2, third to Lord Momo and Lanta in a C2 and then last time out sat wide throughout and was entitled to fade. Hard to have a lot of trust in an 8yo mare who is 2 from 57 but this race is really thin. BLOWIN SMOKE has raced in 56+ grade at Carnarvon, Junction and Mingenew his last three. Back slightly in grade into a 52+ and is trying hard. DANEA ROCK just can’t quite pinch one. She has been knocking on the door for well over a year now, it just won’t open. WHO’S YOUR MAMA has been a bit out of form this season but this is clearly the weakest race she has seen for a while. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet – RULING DAME WIN Race 4 INTOXICATING has found her feet on the dirt. She jumped, she travelled and she bolted in at Junction by a 2.5L margin over Shooting Kontiki and then went to Mingenew with 61kg and tried hard behind Addictive Dream. You could see she was feeling the pressure/weight in the concluding stages when wanting to lay in late and getting down to 55kg here looks a big help. RULER ROCKET is a classy animal for Leonora. He destroyed them at Mingenew on the grass. The question here is simply whether he will handle the dirt. If he does, he wins. SHASFA has had a really (really) long preparation that has seen her travel nearly the length of WA. Different mare if she can lead. DUBLIN RED has only been to Leonora once and won this exact race by 2L. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 7 – 2 Suggested Bet – INTOXICATING WIN Race 5 ADDICTIVE DREAM has now won her last two in a row and looks to be flying. Got the better of stablemate Magic Carats at Carnarvon in a C1 and then backed it up by knocking off Intoxicating in a 48+ at Mingenew. With the favourite having his first start on the dirt and the third favourite a possibility of being unable to find a rider, it’s a wonderful opportunity for her to go three in a row and complete the hattrick. ALOTOFBANTER has the best form to his name by panels, it’s just whether or not he handles the dirt. If Kyra Yuill can get him out and running and kept away from the kickback he’ll be very hard to beat. No Door Busters or Chipillys in this. POPULISM won well last start. WHAT ABOUT MOI may find himself a fair way off them in the run. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 5 – 4 Suggested Bet – ADDICTIVE DREAM EACHWAY Race 6 BOAB BOY won this race in 2025 by a margin of 10.44L. He carried 57kg that day and this year after the Gemma Taylor claim he’s in with 58.5kg. The race could well come down to how he jumps – because from barrier 1 you ideally want to be kicking through and doing enough to lead, rather than ending up leader’s back with a face full of kickback. If he is crossed, it could get ugly. THE CANDY KID went around in a Boulder Cup two back and then a 0MWLY on Cup Day. He’s going along well and if he crosses Boab Boy out of the gates it’s advantage him. WETSERN IMPACT goes around a juicy price for an in form galloper who thrives on the dirt. REPEATER won well at Mingenew and has always looked like he would be a nice Eastern Goldfields Cups type. Numbers: 1 – 8 – 5 – 2 Suggested Bet – BOAB BOY WIN Quaddie (Race 3 – 6) 2,3,5 1,3 2,6 1,2,5,8
