Scott Embry’s Saturday Bunbury Preview Posted on February 8, 2024February 8, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 WONDER WEAPON was enormous two starts ago at Pinjarra in a winner producing race behind Playing Rio (Memory Parade, Silver Back Jack and Savorski all winners so far) and then last start got continually shuffled further and further back in traffic before letting rip late. Has a 5kg pull on main rival Bonjoy and should settle in a similar position in running. Looks ready for the 1675. BONJOY was heavily supported in betting second-up and was the beneficiary of a William Pike special when bursting through late to score. She’s proven at this level and has a great winning strike rate. SILVER BACK JACK won a weak C1 last start but is racing well. HOIST THE COLOURS can lead and control. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – WONDER WEAPON WIN RACE 2 BIRDIEAGLE was a big improver last Saturday at Ascot when narrowly defeated at the hands of The Spruiker. Backs up off 7 days, gets out to 1675m and has a lovely map to stalk the every move of Gift Of The Heart. Seems to love having one to follow and goes lengths better for Brad Parnham than anyone else. Looks a nice set up for him. GIFT OF THE HEART stretches out to the 1675 but Roy Rogers has always maintained in interviews that he was confident his free flowing front runner would get a trip in time. STARCHIENNE sat deep throughout last start and wasn’t disgraced. Fresh win was super. BENJI’S drops out of the Fitzpatrick Plate and Mt Barker Sprint. Prefers it wet but is capable. Numbers: 4 – 5 – 6 – 3 Suggested Bet – BIRDIEAGLE WIN RACE 3 ALL PLAY was a bit disappointing last start when leading. He kicked through, held the front comfortably, looked to get it relatively cheap in the middle stages but had nothing to offer in the concluding stages. Might just be a better horse with a sit and in this race with Salt Lake Shake, Shell Bell and Tycoon Harry all engaged they’ll get their chance to take cover. Love Paul Harvey’s booking and willing to go off his first-up run and suggest he’s capable of bouncing back to form. SNIPPY WHICH has 60kg and drops back to 1000m in the middle of a prep. Not an easy ask. TYCOON HARRY and SHELL BELL are both quick. Get the feeling TYCOON HARRY has a touch more versatility about him in the event they can’t cross Salt Lake Shake. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet – ALL PLAY WIN RACE 4 ELITE MISSILE was brilliant on debut when settling at the rear of the field and charging through the line. That race contained Glasgow Girl and Big Shots and looks the strongest form reference race coming into this – especially considering how many unraced horses take to the track for the first time. Race experience, better drawn and a set of winkers on are all positives. GOLDEN KATHLEEN trialled better than stablemate Gold Maker who split undefeated filly Golden Vale and highly promising stablemate Earthstorm. Rusty Stewart can find a 2 year old and she looks sharp. BRAZEN BID can settle much closer than what he did last start. LIVE LUCKY is extremely speedy. Expect she’ll cross comfortably if they let her run. Numbers: 3 – 10 – 1 – 9 Suggested Bet – ELITE MISSILE WIN RACE 5 AUTUMN REBEL had to pull out all the stops to win last start in a slowly run race at Ascot. If he was going to be beaten it was in a muddlingly run affair but he still managed to sprint over them. He’s on the upward spiral and this is another wonderful chance to beat the older horses before timing his run into the 3 year old features. MATERIAL WITNESS is in career best form. William Lewthwaite has done a magnificent job with a horse who for 6 years of his life raced almost exclusively over 1000m. New stable, new horse. BARAMAGIC is not an easy horse to catch but he put in a ripper first-up behind Material Witness and gets a 1.5kg weight swing on Material Witness. He looks like he’s in for another solid preparation. CANDLELIGHT SUPPER was brilliant first-up. Numbers: 7 – 4 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – AUTUMN REBEL WIN RACE 6 LEXINGTON CITY was very well found in betting second-up and the punters were nearly spot on. Raced a bit fierce early after being crossed and then was one of the strongest through the line late. This race is speed on speed as Ginnivan and Bayezid battle it out early and for Brayden Gaerth and Lexington City he should be parked right on their tow balls ready to pounce. Looks the right map for him. GINNIVAN showed last start that it’s the fence or nowhere for him at this stage of his career. Can he hold out Bayezid? Opinions will be divided. RULER ROCKET got to the line well fresh and if he steps cleanly can hold a commanding position. RUPERT’S EMPIRE has always shown ability. Numbers: 2 – 8 – 5 – 9 Suggested Bet – LEXINGTON CITY WIN RACE 7 HONEY DEW is a barrier horse and she’s gone from 10/11 and 8/10 into barrier 1 third-up. She can track the speed and present at the right time and you only need to watch her replays or break down her L600 sections to convince yourself she’s going much better than it reads on paper. She’s broken 34s L600 first-up and second-up – she can’t go much faster than that. Big improver. BRAVE VENTURE was a dynamite first-up winner over 1000m when letting loose with a big turn of acceleration. Second-up he was getting home well late and last Saturday he went out to 1400m and couldn’t really get himself into the race. Winnable for him. TRADE WAR is drawn awkwardly but he’s in great form. ANTIQUE MISS has turned a corner. Hard to knock the way she’s going about it. Numbers: 8 – 1 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – HONEY DEW WIN RACE 8 WILD BELLE and LIVE TO TELL are both excitement machines who will no doubt garner attention from Quokka Slot Holders. With the races being transferred from Ascot to Bunbury neither are probably guaranteed starters consider what’s ahead for them in the campaign but if they do head to the races they’ll bring massive attention to this feature event. REAL DANGER is fool proof. What you see is what you get, she’ll jump, she’ll park up over the speed, she’ll kick and she’ll keep fighting. Apart from the addition of Mood Swings there looks to be arguably less speed than last start and she’s drawn to get a softer run. HOT ZED has 62kg but he’s a 3 deep beast. Numbers: 5 – 9 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet – WILD BELLE WIN Same Race Multi – Live To Tell (Top 3) + Wild Belle (Top 3) + Real Danger (Top 4) This race could change complexion with possible scratchings later in the week due to heat but if they all run then expecting that Live To Tell and Wild Belle are out to impress Quokka Slot holders to try and book their place in the $5,000,000 Ascot feature and Real Danger just doesn’t know how to run a bad race. They actually all map to get the runs they need and look the three big players. RACE 9 PLAYING RIO always looked like the kind of horse who would be able to work his way through the grades once he found his feet and broke through to win his maiden. His maiden has been a winner producer (Alaskan x2, Own The Queen) and his C1 win has been a hot form reference race (Memory Parade, Silver Back Jack, Savorski, Wonder Weapon). Goes up in grade again but he’s drawn to get the run of the race and continues to improve. BUDGERIGAR and EXCELTRAIN are both consistent types who have proven themselves more than capable at this level previously. RECALLED was a brilliant trial for a staying type. Numbers: 7 – 3 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – PLAYING RIO WIN Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 1,2,4,5,8,9 1,2,3,5,6,8 4,5,9 2,3,7 Market Market
