Michael Heaton’s Sunday Albany Preview Posted on November 3, 2023November 3, 2023 | Posted by Michael Heaton RACE 1 SONG STORY finished second to Princess Lacillia on debut at Belmont in June before an end of prep run a fortnight later. That’s the strongest formline in this race and she appears to have the natural speed to be able to hold a forward position in running. QUEEN RHAEYNRA joins Roy Rogers’ yard after starting a $5 chance at Northam first up but giving up the ghost quite quickly in the straight. Her trial leading into that race was solid and she now has blinkers on for the first time. Debutant FINAL SIREN has only been seen once when winning a 1000m trial at Albany in slow time but he did it under a hold and moved nicely. Keep safe. GOOD SONG resumes and had several chances to break maiden status last prep. Numbers: 3 – 6 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet – SONG STORY WIN RACE 2 I DREAMED A DREAM’S form jumps off the page. <5L fifth to star filly Super Smink in the Group 3 Sires’ Produce Stakes at her last start in April and ran city placings at two of her three starts prior to that. Drawn beautifully and hard to beat. PILBARA SONG finished only a length off Ex Sport Girl and Hang Glider in Albany maidens last prep and maps to enjoy a gun run. SAFE RAPPA trialled up nicely and ran some nice races last prep but the extreme outside draw looks a killer. MAGNABURMA resumes off a lengthy layoff and has always promised to win a race or two. Numbers: 11 – 1 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – I DREAMED A DREAM WIN RACE 3 MINE HOST won his maiden by more than five lengths in the Great Southern last prep and has always given the impression of making a handy provincial type in time. He now resumes as a 4YO, has had two trials to get him ready for his first-up assignment and should enjoy a lovely run parked behind the speed. PLAYIN’ HARDBALL also returns and showed enough promise last time in to suggest she can go through the grades in Albany. She’s better suited over further but looks capable in this grade. MY AFFLICTION has to lump 60kg but drops sharply in class after being beaten only 2.5 lengths in Saturday grade and he broke maiden status nicely at Belmont three starts back. YES OF COURSE resumes and is short of his best distance but hasn’t run a bad race since joining the Wolfe yard. Numbers: 5 – 8 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – MINE HOST WIN RACE 4 LITTLE SILVER looks extremely well placed returning to Albany. Two starts back he finished only two lengths off Sophia’s Symphony/Rumour Says/Cut The Talk over an unsuitable 1000m at Belmont and last start he was caught in traffic and still found the line well behind Chollima and subsequent winner Reaction at Bunbury. Hard to beat. MISSALFIE resumes and ran some rippers in stronger company last prep. MONEY FOR OLD ROPE has won two of his past three, including bolting in the Collie Sprint by almost 10 lengths last time out. ROCK OF KAHA was flying last Albany season and hit the line full of running at York last start. Numbers: 4 – 6 – 7 – 5 Suggested Bet – LITTLE SILVER WIN RACE 5 MAKE YOUR POINT led throughout at this track/distance to break maiden status five starts ago and since then each of his runs have been in the city. He’s finished within 1.5L of horses like Leniency and Supersession, comes into this fresh 46 days between runs and looks very well placed in an Albany C1 with only 57.5kg after the claim. SPEEDY PYE is a long-time C1 but is a super consistent mare in this grade and maps beautifully. PHENCE SITTER came from last to win impressively first up at Northam then was very plain last start. She drops right back in grade and the tongue control bit goes on. NITRO FRED can work forward and run a cheeky race fresh. Numbers: 2 – 8 – 7 – 4 Suggested Bet – MAKE YOUR POINT WIN RACE 6 STORM COMMANDER looks like a terrific Albany acquisition for Jon Jachmann. He’s a 1000m specialist, was a Saturday winner only five starts ago and a Northam C5 winner with 60kg only three starts ago and he’s drawn beautifully with only 57kg here. AVOIDANCE won super impressively in good time at his first two runs for Roy Rogers last prep but interestingly now races over 1000m for the first time in his career. It’ll be game on if he’s able to cross them. CLASSIC MAGNUS has 61kg to contend with but she’s an absolute ripper in this region and trialled up stylishly. FIRST LAW is another handy pick up for Jachmann and ran the fastest closing sectionals of the day when finishing fourth at his first start for the stable. His previous four outings were in Saturday grade. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – STORM COMMANDER WIN RACE 7 VONSNIP is undoubtedly better suited over further but she’s a consistent mare who made a quick impression when joining Samantha Faithfull’s yard at the end of her last prep. She’s trialled up well, maps a treat and might be able to get away with the sprint trip fresh. LOOKS flies at Albany (5: 3-2-0) and trialled nicely behind city types Hang Glider and Rope Them In. He should be able to find the top and take some beating. STARAUTHORESS hasn’t won in a while but he rarely runs a bad race in this grade. FRANTIC WAR next best. Numbers: 10 – 4 – 7 – 9 Suggested Bet – VONSNIP WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 4,6 2,8 1,3,4,5,7,9 4,5,7,9,10 Market Market
