Matt Young’s Friday Northam Preview Posted on May 2, 2025May 2, 2025 | Posted by Matt Young Race 1 GOODONYA MATE (1) was a bit disappointing in his last run but that was over the longer trip, he drops back in distance and back to a mobile and looks hard to beat, has got options from the draw as he isn’t the quickest beginner in the race but should go close. ALLWOODS CHEVRON (2) is a big chance to cross for mine and if he finds the top he will run a bold race, has been relatively unlucky in recent runs. KEPTAIN COURAGEOUS (4) is suited at the grade, but he is a cuddle up for one run type of horse. JOHNNY LOMBO (5) is not at his best but is better suited in this class. VINTAGE BLU (8) can run on. Tips: 1 2 4 5 Suggested Bet: ALLWOODS CHEVRON (2) each way. Race 2 GALVINSTON JOHN (5) has been mixing his form but drops in grade and comes in to this race with strong claims, the gelding has good early speed and it’s not a fast front line, should run to the top and take all kinds of beating. SHES A MARE (7) will be benefitted by the return run and be running on well but she needs luck from the draw and follows out a slow beginner. SAVE THIS DANCE (3) could lead early and be close enough, had no luck last run and two starts ago was solid, strong place chance. ISAIDBOO (8) will be running on strongly, always a novelty chance. BONNIE PAULINE (2) lacks early brilliance, which will see her midfield. Tips: 5 3 7 8 Suggested Bet: GALVINSTON JOHN (5) to win. Race 3 SPORTING GRACE (1) went to the line bolting on Tuesday, found the top and then handed up, has options from the draw, the good thing is if they intend on handing up here, there is a sprint lane in operation, so two bites of the cherry. Go close on what she has been showing. HEAVENLY BLISS (2) has been consistent and shouldn’t be too far away with the stablemate RECOVER LOVER (6) who got back into the winners list and has good closing speed. ROCKIN THE TREND (4) is never far away and cannot see that changing here but she is short enough in the market for a horse who may have to do the work. ALLAMERICAN TEEN (9) fitter but also rises in grade noticeably. Tips: 1 6 2 4 Suggested Bet: SPORTING GRACE (1) each way. Race 4 BETTOR HAVE FAITH (10) is ready to win and she will have to come from the back of the field but the punters need to have faith in her to get the job done, she was pushed off the track last time out and thought her effort was good after making a couple of runs at them, go close. KEAYANG JIGSAW (2) has good early speed and can bounce on the bunny, he does his best work on the rails in front and can give them something to catch. BELLA RAGAZZA (1) hit the line well first up and has options from the draw. MISTER KOPA (7) has the perfect draw and looks a novelty chance at value with BEYOND BLING (8) and ROCKABILITY (9) who should both be closing off well with AMERICAN MONARCH (5). Tips: 10 2 1 7 Suggested Bet: BETTOR HAVE FAITH (10) to win. Race 5 BREWERY LANE (4) has come back well, good two efforts since resuming and stepped like a bullet last time out, looks hard to beat reaching higher fitness. RISING SPIRIT (6) sustained a long run last time out and that was off the back of a solid win at Kellerberrin the start before. The distance will suit him, and he’s well equipped in the standing starts. SIR BELVEDERE (8) hit the line well last time out and is heading in the right direction, novelty chance. MEGA MACH (5) isn’t at his best but is normally a quick beginner. ROCKNROLL NUGGET (7) is going along soundly and represents one of many chances along with YANKEE LINCOLN (9) who is mixing his form. Tips: 4 6 8 5 Suggested Bet: BREWERY LANE (4) to win. Race 6 CROWDED REACTOR (5) hasn’t appreciated the standing starts in recent runs and was KO’d in a mobile as well, so he has been luckless. Two starts ago he ran second to Rockin The Trend who won again after that race and Betterthan Secret finished third, who has been in good form since. This looks a suitable grade and think he will be very hard to beat. ROCKNROLL TRAIN (6) has got good early speed and is knocking on the door, this class suits his chances. THE MERCENARY (7) has good closing speed and strips fitter for the first up effort. TELKEM JAY (2) first up for the new stable, can mix his form and best is good enough. THE WHIZZER (4) is consistent. Tips: 5 6 2 7 Suggested Bet: CROWDED REACTOR (5) to win. Race 7 IT IS CRUNCH TIME (4) has been racing well and was rewarded with a victory last time out, this class looks suitable for him, and he can continue his winning way. SPIRITED WHITBY (3) looks a nice type and has early speed, should be dangerous late. INTO THE FUTURE (5) may come out humming but with the speed underneath there is no guarantee he can cross. BY ROYAL COMMAND (7) will be running on strongly. OFFICIAL ROCK (1) has shown promise and drawn well on return but might need the race run. Tips: 4 3 7 5 Suggested Bet: IT IS CRUNCH TIME (4) to win.
