It Pays To Follow

Race 1 – SIXINCH HEELS

The daughter of Nicconi headed to the races for her debut off the back of a 400m trial two months earlier. Like she did in that heat, she was a little tardy away only to make ground quickly to sit outside leader and raging favourite DESERT WHISPER. She wanted to get in down inside the final 150m and while she probably wouldn’t have beaten DESERT WHISPER had she done everything right, to be beaten less than two lengths into second was well and truly a pass mark.

Race 7 – QUEEN NARDI

The market didn’t feel it was going to be QUEEN NARDI’S day. Ultimately the market was correct. One has to wonder though whether it would have been had she been able to let down without suffering interference in the straight. Adam Durrant’s mare travelled sweetly inside the last 200m at her first run since the WA Oaks in late March, only for Clint Johnston-Porter having to take hold when ROCH LEGACY lay inwards in the straight. She’ll get out over a trip again this preparation and with the way the stable is faring, it would be prudent to keep her in your thoughts.

Race 3 – SUPER SNIPPY

The Bunbury track wasn’t kind to backmarkers last week, making the performance of SUPER SNIPPY one to reference. Granted, he remains a maiden after 14 starts, but he rattled to the line behind COSMIC ECLIPSE and PEARL KING with a final 600m that was clearly the fastest of the race. Both runs back this time have been really encouraging and it would seem only a matter of time before he breaks through.

Race 1 – ACROSS GENERATIONS

On a day where it was advantageous to be close to the speed and on the fence, ACROSS GENERATIONS was one of the eye-catchers making ground. The three-year-old colt settled last in the run before jockey Steven Parnham weaved his way through the field in just his second career start. The acceleration in the final 100m when in clear air was the most impressive section of the race. It’s fair to say trainer Neville Parnham has had some luck with Playing God three-year-olds and it’s difficult to put a ceiling on where this son of the champion stallion is.

Race 2 – BOUSSAC

Meryl Hayley has taken over the training of this four-year-old and the early signs are very positive. BOUSSAC was beaten on debut for the new stable, but recorded the fastest final 600m (33.56sec.) behind the talented OUR MATE ARCHIE over 1100m. Sunday’s performance came on the back of a trial that caught the attention of punters who proceeded to back the son of Ducimus from $6.50 into $3.30. Look out for Boussac next start, in maiden grade again, but this time over 1200m or 1300m.
