Greg Hooper’s Ascot Preview Posted on April 8, 2016April 11, 2016 | Posted by Greg Hooper RACE 1 – THE PASSAGES RESOURCES CENTRE PLATE 1000m No. 2 MY BROTHER PENCIL – Going wide in the opener and selecting MY BROTHER PENCIL. He led at a furious tempo on debut an wilted over the final 100m. He has since trialled well and with that race day experience under his belt he can improve sharply. (5) BLOCK AND TACKLE has showed ability in his trial. (8) DAINTY TESS has the form on the board with a determined win at her second career start. (1) NEXT GENERATION has form around smart horses. Suggested Bet – My Brother Pencil and Block And Tackle RACE 2 – $100,000 LISTED OLD COMRADE STAKES 1600m No. 4 WINK AND A NOD – Class mare WINK AND A NOD smacked a similar line-up under the same weight scale a fortnight back and she should be too good again. Happy to forgive last week when she dropped back to 1200m and wasn’t suited under the on speed conditions of the day. The step up to a mile appears ideal for her. (3) BATTLE HERO ran second to Wink And A Nod in the Grandstand Cup and should probably do the same again. (2) YOUNG LIONEL improves back on top of the ground. (1) RESPONDENT next best. Suggested Bet – Wink And A Nod win RACE 3 – THE FLEET WEST HANDICAP 1200m No. 1 DAWN APPROACH – Keen on the chances of the classy sprinter DAWN APPROACH. He usually races well fresh and has trialled in magnificent order for his return. With the claim for Randy tan he looks very well in with 58.5kg and just needs to get over from his sticky gate to be the one to beat. (7) MAN BOOKER resumes without a trial. He should be really exploding late. (3) ZUCCHEROS can improve second-up. (3) WAR PRINCE always has claims at this level. Suggested Bet – Dawn Approach win RACE 4 – CITY OF BELMONT COMMUNITY TROPHY 1800m No. 5 ILLUMINATED – At the prices on offer happy to speculate on ILLUMINATED. He showed some class and toughness last preparation producing a hat trick of wins which saw him start favourite in the Ascot Gold Cup where he disappointed and was subsequently tipped out for a spell. He was never a hope first-up over 1200m and he should improve out of sight back on top of the ground. (9) STAR EXHIBIT looks the clear danger and Pike has elected to ride him over Illuminated. (2) OUTLAW PETE is racing well and goes close again. (2) I’M FEELING LUCKY was enormous defying the bias last week. Suggested Bet – Illuminated and Star Exhibit RACE 5 – THE RAMELIUS RESOURCES TROPHY 1600m No. 2 CUBITT AND CUNDY – Prices have again influenced my selections in this race. CUBIT AND CUNDY looks very close to another win. He should lead and control from gate 1 and he did beat home Lite’n In My Veins at their last clash. (1) LITE’N IN MY VEINS drifted noticeably in the market when resuming. He still battled on solidly and is the clear danger. (6) HEDLANDER BOY will settle on the speed and has some claims. (8) MAJOR MAMBO drops in class. Suggested Bet – Cubitt And Cundy save Lite’n In My Veins RACE 6 – THE NEOMETALS HANDICAP 1400m No. 10 SHOWY CHLOE – Classy filly SHOWY CHLOE looks very well placed on the minimum in this BM72+ handicap. She took out the Breeders Classic two starts back and then just missed in the Raconteur after being wide throughout. She should sit right on the hammer of the leader Corporate Larrikin out pay to him in the straight and be very hard to run down. (3) LUNAR ECLIPSE has won three of his past four including a terrific effort fresh when zooming home along the inside which did appear to be the worst going. (6) TRADESMAN is a very promising type who resumes with the benefit of two trials. (7) EUROSON looks a first-four lock again. Suggested Bet – Showy Chloe save Lunar Eclipse RACE 7 – THE ST VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY HANDICAP 1500m No. 11 RIPPER RIO – Happy to be with the promising four-year-old RIPPER RIO. He was a moral beaten first-up and then made amends with a soft win at Pinjarra. The stable/jockey combination is flying and with any luck he should take care of this moderate opposition. (1) WINZA MOMENT is in career best form and he looks the leader. (4) THE FLIRT is coming from what appears a strong form reference. (10) ROYAL SUPREME drops in class. Suggested Bet – Ripper Rio win RACE 8 – THE ROTARY CLUB OF PERTH HANDICAP 2200m No. 3 PRESENT ARMS – Fairly open staying race to finish the program. PRESENT ARMS has been in career best form this campaign and he looks a top chance to make it four straight wins. He gets the pie run from a good draw and will just need clear room to be in the finish. (2) CARALABEK won well first-up and the increase to 2200m should suit. (7) READY TO FIRE is going nicely and is always a chance at this level. (4) SLICK TALKER rises in trip but is rock hard fit and looks the other major winning chance. Suggested Bet – Present Arms and Caralabek QUADDIE RACE 5 – 1, 2 RACE 6 – 3, 6, 10 RACE 7 – 1, 2, 4, 10, 11 RACE 8 – 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 9, 11 Bet Now!
