RACE 1

VOMO ISLAND hasn’t started for 3-4 weeks however importantly has had a trial in between runs which will keep his fitness levels up to scratch. Nice return effort behind the very well-bred Kandinsky Abstract at Canterbury with the since won (impressively) Celestial Legend splitting the pair in 2^nd spot. MATUSALEM can improve off the Gosford run.

RACE 2

Another tough looking Highway affair. The lightly raced DEMITASSE holds a good overall record & ran on strongly into second placing first up aided by the solid pace up front. That suggests he’s now going to be suited stepping up in distance which is the case here. The consistent OVERLORD rises in weight however drops in grade, claim a big help. JALMARI a place chance off the wide gate, numbers have been quite good last two starts.

RACE 3

CRAFTY EAGLE clearly has the best form for this race however will need a good ride from the awkward gate. Both previous first up attempts have netted a first & third, his recent trial was good enough to show up here. OBVIOUS STEP is a market watch having been off the scene for 2 months, form good enough if the fitness levels are there. RHYTHMIC PULSE led throughout to score comfortably on the Kensington track last start, may well adopt similar tactics here.

RACE 4

Keen on the resuming Team Snowden runner TASHI who ran second (beaten 1 length) first up last prep off the back of only one lead up 740m trial. This time around she’s had two (895, 1050m) with the latest being in a quality heat featuring Eduardo & King Of Sparta where she clocked in a 1.2 length 3^rd. PLUNDERING is only lightly raced & was solid winning first up, gate one with the claim can measure up to the stronger company. YOSHINO won’t be far away, SCORCH an improver second up.

RACE 5

The Chris Waller trained KAZOU looks a promising type who can make it 3 wins within her past 4 starts. Yet to be stepped up to this longer 1400m trip however her 1300m win last prep was dominant & her only defeat of late came in much stronger grade down south. FRENCH BONNET was never a hope first up in much stronger grade, her second up record demands she be included here. The consistent CROSS THE RUBICON in the mix also.

RACE 6

Keen on the chances of NAVAL COLLEGE who has only had the two Australian outings for an arguably unlucky placing first up followed by a good strong on paced win the latest. Yes, he does have to step it up a cog today however his formline was strengthened by the dominant win of Queensway at Canterbury on Wednesday, that was the horse who chased him home last start. UNSPOKEN was good running on at Scone third up, main danger, both well suited by the step up in distance. BISCAYNE BAY can place, nominated for 2 races at Eagle Farm today, accepted in neither with connections happy to stay home & tackle this.

RACE 7

LADY BROOK looks well overs this race & at the odds I’m happy to be in her corner. She’s a very effective mare when fresh having won 3 of her 4 attempts running second the other. Her trials have been solid & she draws ok. Good support around for IOWNA MERC who is lightly raced & has trialled well also. CHIEF CONDUCTOR has the race fitness on both however he only just held on last start, the significant weight drop will help though.

RACE 8

FOX FIGHTER has been terrific both runs this prep clocking the quickest closing sectionals on each occasion. First up behind the smart Malkovich, second up behind Think It Over who is well fancied to win a Group 1 at Eagle Farm this afternoon. Probably not an ideal draw however Randwick is a big, spacious track & I’m sure he can find a way through. DRAGONSTONE resumes, well drawn & should be kept safe. Another first upper THROUGH THE CRACKS will be steaming home at the business end.

RACE 9

Suggesting DEMOCRACY MANIFEST can bounce back here. Such a consistent galloper his last start failure was most out of character however the heavy track & being ridden closer to the lead are both factors which likely worked against him. Back onto the drier surface with a light weight he should run well. RUBAMOS strips fitter for the first up outing in a much stronger race at Scone, drawn well & not badly placed with 55.5kg. Wide gate for TAMERLANE suggests he will need luck, back in grade a help.

RACE 10

Absolute lottery to wind up the day, found it impossible to land confidently on one or even two runners. I’ve ended up going with the one I think will land the right run & that’s SHIPSHAPE who also gets the claim for gun apprentice Zac Lloyd. GREEN SHADOWS can run a race fresh, wasn’t far away in better company fresh last prep. The lightly raced HUESCA although not far away last start will relish getting away from heavy going.
