Chris Nelson’s Saturday Randwick Preview Posted on January 4, 2024January 4, 2024 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 The afternoon’s racing gets under way with a Highway over the mile. Keen on the chances of FINAL COMMENT who was very good here last start this trip when posted wide without any cover, he stayed on well in a race which was solidly run & this time around comes up with an ideal draw. MAGIC PHAROAH was the winner of that race & still looks well placed down on 54.5kg, she may now be looking for further though? I AM GOOD AT THIS brings the Matt Dunn polish; we know how good the stable fares with their Highway runners. Numbers: 4 – 7 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet: FINAL COMMENT to win (small bet). RACE 2 Very interesting runner in this race is the Sunshine Coast visitor PERSEIDS who without doubt has been set for this race fresh. Nice recent trial performance on his home track, a good first-up record & the booking of top apprentice Zac Lloyd all suggest he’s primed to go, the stable don’t mind a bet either so keep a close eye on the market moves. EXPLORING also resumes, trialled well & is unbeaten fresh, won a Blue Diamond Prelude & wasn’t far away in a Blue Diamond as a 2yo. OXFORD VISION the fit runner in a race where more than half the field resume. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 2 – 8 Suggested Bet: PERSEIDS EACH-WAY (small bet)/EXPLORING RACE 3 PRINCE INVINCIBLE looks well placed in this Midway coming out of stronger races at both runs this prep Canterbury & Randwick. Perfectly drawn he’ll land in the front half & from there should prove very hard to hold out. OUR KOBISON is lightly raced showing plenty of promise, resumes with Nash to steer from a perfect draw, has won a lead-up trial. HELLOVA NATURE has done nothing wrong to date however will find this a tougher task. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 8 – 6 Suggested Bet: PRINCE INVINCIBLE TO WIN (small bet) RACE 4 All over the super consistent TERRA MATER who was responsible for a very impressive last start win. Back in the field in an unsuitably run affair & in an awkward position she found a gap then unleashed a steady finish to win running away. The additional 100m this afternoon looks made to order. ROCKETEER GIRL in the mix should she produce a similar effort to last start. AFRICAN DAISY gets J. Mac from the pole draw with a good fresh record. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 3 – 7 Suggested Bet: TERRA MATER TO WIN RACE 5 I’m with the promising Maher/Eustace mare RUNNING BY who justified the short quote winning at Caulfield last start. That was her second run back suggesting she can improve further fitness wise & this race is certainly no harder. CADETSHIP closed off solidly without threat first up, the step up in distance suits based on that. No knock on the form of VEGAS OUTLAW (how could I) however he will find this a tougher assignment. IMRAHOR the other in the mix, resumes from the inside gate with a claim & good first up record. Numbers: 5 – 9 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet: RUNNING BY TO WIN RACE 6 Going with the consistent BUILLT to break through in Saturday company here. A midweek winner two back he beat all bar the winner this track & trip a fortnight back & will carry only one kilo more in weight with J. Mac to steer. Interesting runner is FLAMIN’ ROMANS who is in the best of hands & shows great promise, big step up in grade however he may well be up to the task. CARING LASS in the mix as well. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 11 – 8 Suggested Bet: BUILLT TO WIN RACE 7 All eyes will be on the Irish import HELLSING who makes his Australian debut, nothing wrong with his form overseas & his recent trial, the booking of J. Mac to ride is a very good guide to his chances, I’m going with him should he not end up a noted market drifter. No doubt FELIX MAJESTIC will be cut loose as was the case last start, down in the weights will take catching once again. ROBUSTO is back in form, also drops in weight & draws a good gate. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 5 – 3 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 8 LEGIO TEN was super impressive winning at Rosehill back in early December when resuming from a break. He zoomed down the outside clocking a super sectional to arrive right on the line, kept on the fresh side having not raced since (soft trial in between) he’s going to appreciate the solid speed & additional 100m today. Good old WAVERIDER BUOY is a model of consistency, pulled up slightly lame first up can improve sharply, she doesn’t win too often however is rarely far away. TIME TO BOOGIE in the mix should he gain a start. Numbers: 13 – 14 – 18 – 9 Suggested Bet: LEGIO TEN TO WIN RACE 9 I’m a wrap for KAPAKIRI & don’t see any reason as to why he can’t win again & make it four straight. Seems to just get better with each run & although likely now suited out to further he is 3 weeks between runs with the stable likely to have freshened him up a little in that time. Now that KETTLE HILL has broken through he may be able to go on with it, much maligned there was nothing wrong with the way he found the line that latest win bursting through between rivals. ROMA AVENUE is on the up however does have to deal with a wide gate this afternoon. Numbers: 8 – 2 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet: KAPAKIRI TO WIN RACE 10 Should SHAKEN go around at $3 plus I’m happy to get involved however from the wide gate if shorter odds I’ll likely bail out as she’s a definite chance of being posted. Nothing wrong with her form having won 2 of 4 with very valid excuses at both defeats. BOSTON ROCKS won well first up & the form has stacked up, won’t get the same soft trip though from the bad alley. Every chance SPRING LEE last start however she has plenty of upside & drops plenty in weight to tackle this harder affair. Numbers: 7 – 3 – 13 – 2 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 in exotics Market Market
