Chris Nelson’s Saturday Randwick Preview Posted on December 7, 2023December 7, 2023 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 I’m with the King of The Highway’s Matt Dunn who has VEANDERCHANCE going around second up off a somewhat surprising first up victory at Doomben. Although placed all 3 previous fresh runs she drew wide & wasn’t expected to figure in the finish however she didn’t know that as she came storming down the outside to win running away. Fitter & with Nash to steer she should lap up the additional trip. BURRANDANA was very impressive this company last prep without winning, trialled well should be ready to go. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet: VEANDERCHANCE EACH-WAY RACE 2 Looks a match between the two at the top of the page & I could go either way. STEP ASIDE has the stronger formlines, a better gate & should have plenty of improvement to come being only second up. ZOUATICA has a terrific career record to date & will likely lead even off the wide draw, also second up does come out of a weaker class race fresh when winning with plenty of authority. Happy to pass on DIAMOND MODEL back to the shorter trip. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 10 – 11 Suggested Bet: BACKING TOP TWO SELECTIONS TO WIN RACE 3 GOLDEN DECADE is down to run here & also at Eagle Farm where he comes up with a very poor draw, on barriers alone he’d be favoured to run here having drawn the inside. Think he’ll go very well wherever he turns up as his latest effort was a good one considering he sat 3 wide the trip & was still coming on solidly late. Suggesting RAPBIDASH didn’t beat a lot class wise last start however she did it against the tempo of the race coming from last, unbeaten she’s got upside. Lots of provincial/country form amongst the rest, go wide with your exotics. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 8 – 7 Suggested Bet: GOLDEN DECADE TO WIN RACE 4 Usual open looking Highway. Could do worse than have something small NINGALOO STAR each-way as he races consistently this grade & of late has been performing well in stronger company. Not the best of draws however with luck early (hopefully pushing on) she should run well with the light weight. TERRA MATER has built a good record; solid first up win can only be improved fitness wise. CHIEF CONDUCTOR in the mix as well. Numbers: 9 – 8 – 1 – 6 Suggested Bet: NINGALOO STAR EACH-WAY (small bet) RACE 5 The half-million-dollar Inglis Nursery is one of the day’s highlights, many debutantes though suggesting the market will be a definite guide. Hoping that’s all positive for the Waterhouse/Bott first starter JUPITER HILLS who has had the benefit of two lead-up trials, the latest behind her smart looking stablemate Toque with a decent gap back to the rest. BLUE STRATUM & ODINSON have the score on the board coming through the Flemington race on Cup Day when both were placed. SACRED FORT an improver out to the slightly longer trip. Numbers: 10 – 2 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 6 FOXY CLEOPATRA has accepted for 3 races today, this, The Ingham plus the Ballarat Cup down south! This is clearly the easier of the trio & I’m hoping connections look for the easier kill. She’s had two runs back from a long break placing on each occasion, this looks an ideal third up target. Should she decide to pass on this race I’ll have a small play on SUPERIUM who is now looking for the 2000m after dropping back in distance last Saturday & again running on well. I’MINTOWIN & TOESONTHENOSE are both in top form, must be included albeit in a tougher race. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 9 – 8 Suggested Bet: FOXY CLEOPATRA TO WIN/SUPERIUM EACH-WAY (small bet) RACE 7 24 acceptors of which 4 are emergencies in the 2 million dollar The Ingham, heap of winning chances, this will be competitive! HINGED seems to come up with a few excuses & some are definitely valid, cardiac arrythmia three back, lame the latest. She does tend to go around in highly rated Group races though which suggests she’ll find this easier, from the good draw & if sound she’s an each-way chance. DETONATOR JACK is back in form, the blinkers did the trick at Kembla however he’s likely to give a big start here from the wide gate. FOXY CLEOPATRA should she gain a start is right in it as well. Chances don’t end there! Numbers: 13 – 2 – 24 – 1 Suggested Bet: HINGED EACH-WAY (small bet) RACE 8 Difficult race. INSURRECTION & RECOMMENDATION look the two on form however I have this niggling doubt there’s something buried in this field at odds ready to give that pair a run for their money. Trouble is I’m not sure which one it is, so I’ll stick with the obvious who won & ran 3rd respectively at their last run two weeks ago at Kembla Grange. WITH YOUR BLESSING in the picture as well if running here & not in the last. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 10 – 8 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 9 Market moves around the resuming ARISTONOUS will be all important however I’m hoping they’re positive as I like what I saw of him at his first local preparation. A former Frech galloper who placed over hurdles at his final overseas run he finished strongly to score first up in Australia before winning again next time out. Settling back last in his latest trial he ran on nicely passing all bar the winner. ITA has a very good second up record, the wide gate does her no favours however with a touch of luck she’s far from out of this. No luck for COLOUR SARGEANT last week however it’s ditto for him & the well fancied ZOE’S PROMISE from their wide draws. Numbers: 5 – 4 – 2 – 6 Suggested Bet: ARISTONOUS TO WIN RACE 10 Giving IOWNA MERC one more chance in this final race. He was very costly at the back end of his last prep & has had the one run back being gunned down late once again at a short quote. With good speed up front & a quiet ride he’ll be finishing hard. Perfect draw for BRUDENELL who should take plenty of benefit off the first up run. LADY LAGUNA has a class edge on the lot of these, she can take a run though & might just need this? Numbers: 11 – 2 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet: IOWNA MERC TO WIN (small bet) Market Market
