Chris Nelson’s Saturday Eagle Farm Preview Posted on April 4, 2024April 4, 2024 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Wet track is assured at Eagle Farm, just how wet we won’t know until after this opening race. Yes, this is a step up in grade for SHALAA’S MOMENT however she couldn’t have been any more impressive winning first up over 800m at Ipswich. She showed a terrific turn of foot powering clear to the line. From the wide gate she’ll sit back before hopefully ripping down the outside late. DEVASTATING resumes, super consistent placed 3 of 4 fresh & importantly all types of going. ISLAND MAGIC is a mudder, the wetter the better for her. Numbers: 9 – 2 – 8 – 11 Suggested Bet: SHALAA’S MOMENT EACH-WAY. RACE 2 Going very wide this race putting JEMOMA ALPILAGE on top. She should start well into double figures & will need luck from the back however both career outings to date suggest the step up in distance is what she’s looking for at this stage. BOOMTOWN BOSS is on debut, well bred, well trialled & in the right yard draws the right gate to figure from the get-go. PARETO a market watch, ZELEZNY an improver second up. Numbers: 17 – 9 – 10 – 6 Suggested Bet: JEMOMA ALPILAGE EACH-WAY. RACE 3 Very keen on the chances of SACRED FEELING who goes around third-up from a break. Favourite punters may be a little wary considering she’s started the market elect both starts this time in without winning however first up the trip was too short & the latest was a tempo issue. Up to 1800m on a bigger track today with solid tempo sets up for her to come zooming down the outside at the business end of the race. THESECONDATPORTSEA has raced very well since coming north, additional distance in her favour also. MASCARET is a wet tracker for mine, the more rain the better for her. Numbers: 12 – 7 – 11 – 5 Suggested Bet: SACRED FEELING TO WIN. RACE 4 I’ll stick with the first up winner EVOCATOR who appreciated a solid speed & was given an 11/10 from Tahlia Fenlon to land the major prize. Kept fresh he’ll get back again however the additional 100m is in his favour & importantly he’s adept in any ground. Not a good gate for EN POINTE however she’s going as well as ever & will likely push on, should she gain cover I’d expect her to be right in the finish. BOWRIDER & PATTON are both also racing well & deserve to be included. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 5 Having a few dollars each-way BUTCH ‘N’ BUGS who has struggled his past couple sent out to longer trips. That’s clearly not his go & if you look at his run three back over 1400m it was a solid effort in a much stronger race than this at the Sunshine Coast. The likely wet ground is of no concern & the wide draw may end up favourable? Should CHARLIE’S CASE gain a start he’s well placed, doesn’t win often however ticks a few boxes. BEAN FOGGY in the mix. Numbers: 8 – 24 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet: BUTCH ‘N’ BUGS EACH-WAY (small bet). RACE 6 FLAG HALL is a lightly raced promising type who won with plenty in the tank first up at Ipswich. Yet to miss a placing within his 7 starts to date (3 wins) I’d expect him to land on the fence & from there prove the one to beat. EXOTIQUE MISS is another with a good career record & much upside, resumes having won fresh last prep, market moves will be a good guide. HEARTONI & THE ASTRONOMER will race on pace, the latter has the form over this trip, the former not as yet. NORTH OF ELI a knockout chance. Numbers: 3 – 7 – 6 – 11 Suggested Bet: FLAG HALL TO WIN. RACE 7 Open race. MAJESTIC BOOM & OCEAN ZAR are both promising types heading in the right direction. I’m going to side with the former who remains unbeaten having won at $100 & $18, whilst he won’t be anywhere near those prices in this race, he’ll still be over the each-way & that’s the way we should play him. OCEAN ZAR pulled up with a couple of issues at her last start which explains the lacklustre effort, she can bounce back big time. STARRY EYES is getting close, third-up today did win fourth-up last prep. Numbers: 19 – 14 – 5 – 17 Suggested Bet: MAJESTIC BOOM EACH-WAY (small bet). RACE 8 Sticking with the last start winner RED TOP who defied the bias to score on Jewel Day at the Gold Coast. He’ll carry no weight after Cejay Graham’s claim & won’t have any problems should the going become rain affected. WAIRERE FALLS just keeps on running on, expect more of the same today, one of these days he’ll win, it will happen! WARP SPEED & HELEVA DEEL in the mix, they don’t win out of turn though. Numbers: 13 – 10 – 15 – 18 Suggested Bet: RED TOP TO WIN. RACE 9 BROOKHAVEN showed his class winning second up & I’d suggest he can go right on with the job here. Back in the field looking to be in a very tricky spot he picked up & weaved his way through the pack to arrive in time. Additional 200m this afternoon suits & he can win once again. RISING PACIFIC was never going to be suited first up at Doomben with the rail out so far, this is much more to his liking & I’d expect sharp improvement. IVERSON continues to race very well, just won’t want it too wet. Numbers: 4 – 8 – 15 – 9 Suggested Bet: BROOKHAVEN TO WIN. RACE 10 BUBBA’S BAY gets the nod in this closing race. He’s very consistent, races on speed & handles any type of going they can throw at him. Bailey Wheeler’s claim sees him drop 2kg off the last start win & his record here on the track is a good one. TOJAKI was an eye-catcher first up flashing home after a poor start, where does she go from this wide draw though? MILLANE in the mix, OUTLAWED an improver, perhaps on the worst part of the track last time? Numbers: 1 – 15 – 5 – 9 Suggested Bet: BUBBA’S BAY EACH-WAY. Market Market
