Chris Nelson’s Saturday Eagle Farm Preview Posted on February 16, 2023February 16, 2023 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Opening race on Saturday is for the 2yo’s & they do look a very even bunch, certainly no standouts amongst them. I keep coming back to TRIFLING who was impressive winning at the Sunshine Coast three weeks ago, she’d put the writing on the wall two back closing strongly before up to the 1200m on that occasion pouncing on her rivals well before the line coming clear for an authoritative win. ASHIGARU narrowly beat SMART RECOGNITION at Doomben last start, the latter was the one running on & can turn the tables out to the longer trip. At odds I haven’t minded the trials from the debutante CRYPTIC SOUND, one for the exotics perhaps. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 2 Keen on the chances of NAMAZU who brings the stronger form line through the recent Listed Sunshine Coast Cup when matching it with his more highly rated stablemate Chaillot before just wanting to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages. He meets many of the usual Saturday middle distance race suspects here & should prove far too good if he runs up to that first up effort. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 5 – 4 Suggested Bet: NAMAZU WIN RACE 3 It’s all about the Tony Gollan trained runners in this race with the in-form mare LOVE SENSATION & ROCK AMORE likely to dominate the betting market. I’m siding with LOVE SENSATION who has finally started to show what she’s capable of, her form when first joining the stable was consistent enough however she just couldn’t seem to get that win. That’s all changed now! ROCK AMORE has been going around in stronger form races, can he give the mare 6kg though? I highly doubt it. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet: LOVE SENSATION WIN RACE 4 Probably asking a bit to suggest FIRST IN LINE can make it two wins on the trot considering the gap between his last start victory & prior win was a long one however he was dominant & may have now found his mark up here. The impressive part of the win was that he pulled up lame in both front forelegs, can’t say I’ve seen a winner return with those issues before. HEAD OF STATE was due & that was clearly his race last start, he rises in grade on Saturday & he too doesn’t win out of turn. The winner ‘should’ come from those two however these distance races can often throw up surprise results! Numbers: 2 – 3 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet: Watch only race RACE 5 KOPANGI & WARP SPEED met here last start with the latter holding off the former who was running home strongly at the end of the 1840m trip. Slight drop back in distance this time (30m) however I’m with KOPANGI to turn the tables. He gets a 1.5kg weight turnaround for the 0.75L defeat & in the smaller field I can see him closer in the run not having to make up as much ground. Wouldn’t leave GRINZINGER KNIGHT out of calculations, yes is up in grade however is one of only three on-paced runners in the race & is in the peak of form. Numbers: 10 – 2 – 5 – 4 Suggested Bet: KOPANGI SMALL BET ONLY RACE 6 Newcomer to the Tony Gollan stable COMRADE ROSA was super impressive winning at start number two for the yard at Eagle Farm after a fast-closing effort at Ipswich prior. She’s an ex-NSW mare who sat back & wide at that win before Ryan Maloney unleashed her in the straight where she quickly took care of her opposition. She’s up in weight however the opposition don’t look any stronger, she should be winning again however won’t be any odds unfortunately. HE’S THE ULTIMATE is an interesting runner now with David Vandyke, liked the recent trial & could be the exacta horse, keep an eye on his betting moves. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 9 – 3 Suggested Bet: COMRADE ROSA IF NOT SILLY ODDS RACE 7 Interesting race. ENTERPRISE POMME under the set weights conditions of the race is thrown in & will jump off an inside draw, clearly the horse to beat on paper however I find her a little hard to catch. DELYTH had big wraps on her last prep however the bubble burst her at Eagle Farm & her two runs this prep have been average. I’m going wide & putting THATFEELSBETTER on top, just gave me the impression he’s looking for this trip the way he steadily went through the line last start. Drawn well & Andrew Mallyon rides this track very well. Numbers: 6 – 11 – 9 – 1 Suggested Bet: THATFEELSBETTER EACH-WAY RACE 8 Plenty of speed in this race which is going to play into the hands of the very much in form THE BOPPER. He was responsible for a huge run at the Gold Coast back on Wave Day clocking some outstanding sectionals to beat all bar the winner who just had too big a break. I can see him sitting off them before launching in the straight. Of those on pacers I thought RUBIQITUOUS’ latest run when 4 deep without cover was a cracker, entitled to fold right up he almost pinched it before being run over late when a sitting shot. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 3 – 10 Suggested Bet: THE BOPPER RACE 9 HELLAVADANCER has to be the obvious here off the last start effort behind Vaccine when only run over late. The only concern is she’s yet to win at the mile however her runs in & around the trip (including the latest) suggest she runs it out fine & from the good gate should obtain a trouble free economical run. Away from her it does become very open with the likes of THE VOWELS & PORKY who have raced each other recently both in the mix. ALFA LILY is one at odds who can run a race, she’ll have to overcome a wide gate however if able to her recent form is better than it may appear on paper. Numbers: 8 – 1 – 9 – 14 Suggested Bet: HELLAVADANCER EACH-WAY Market Market
