Chris Nelson’s Saturday Doomben Preview Posted on March 26, 2026March 26, 2026 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Racing at Doomben in Brisbane on Saturday will be on good ground with nothing but fine weather in the lead-up & right through the weekend. First to go is a mile BM78 where (7) SARRISMO does appear very well placed. He’s the only leader in the race & brings the stronger NSW/Sydney midweek form lines. The concern is the 5 weeks between runs stepping up from 1400m however should he be firm in the market I’m on side. (5) RAMP IT UP & (8) ÉCLAIR AWESOME loom as the dangers should the top tip drift alarmingly. Numbers: 7 – 5 – 8 – 10 Suggested Bet: SARRISMO to win if not a market drifter. RACE 2 (3) ANEMACORE looks very well placed here against only moderate opposition. A Listed winner two starts back he just didn’t fire last time out at the Gold Coast when racing wide on a shifty soft surface. Back on drier ground taking on easier opposition he should be winning. (1) VICTORIA ROAD figures to lead for fun, he was good at Eagle Farm two back with his latest forgivable on soft, he could bounce back strongly without any surprise. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 6 – 4 Suggested Bet: ANEMACORE TO WIN. RACE 3 (7) GRAMMAR LAD gets the nod with Amuseantes connections deciding to scratch here & go around in a later race. Completely luckless when resuming he then closed off strongly in a race not run to suit last start suggesting he’s come back well & is busting to break through. If there’s one concern it’s his zero from 3 record over the trip, I’m prepared to give him another chance. (14) BOLLINGER MISS won well fresh & will only strip fitter whilst (15) SPACEBALLS has been well supported in early markets & does drop significantly in weight. Numbers: 7 – 14 – 15 – 1 Suggested Bet: GRAMMAR LAD TO WIN. RACE 4 Leaning to the second-up (6) FIRST MISSION who just had to work a little early on dulling his finishing burst at the Gold Coast. Having not raced since November last year he was always a chance of being vulnerable late & that was the case as the winner swept by him over the latter stages. Not the best of draws here however on the map he should get across two wide, from there he’ll get his chance. (4) BUNDELLA is racing well & fully fit, draws outside of the top tip which could see him stuck deep, that’s my concern with him. (12) STAR RAPPER likely leads from the good draw & must be included. Numbers: 6 – 4 – 12 – 7 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 5 Open stayers event & it’s quite a solid, competitive line-up. Pace wise there’s not much of it with the in-form (9) AKKADIAN EMPEROR likely to land another soft lead which he’s had to his advantage his past two starts/wins. I’m looking for (1) GLORY DAZE to push forward from the get-go & land a prominent spot within striking distance, loved the way he hit the line last start over 200m less & this trip is very suitable now. With the claim for Jasper Franklin he’s down in both grade & weight. No knock whatsoever (8) BRINDIVAN who should also enjoy getting out to 2000m. Numbers: 1 – 8 – 9 – 3 Suggested Bet: GLORY DAZE EACH-WAY. RACE 6 Another distance affair, we don’t often have two at the same meeting. (9) LOVEY DOVEY is just busting to win a Saturday grade race, winning two straight at Ipswich she’s beaten all bar the winner her past couple with the latest at the Gold Coast on Jewel Day running home strongly. Back up to 2200m is ideal. On paper I don’t see too many dangers, (8) LIBERY PARK is flying since being stepped up in distance, he comes back a little here however still the most logical. (12) WILL IT SNOW draws out however continues to race consistently. Numbers: 9 – 8 – 12 – 13 Suggested Bet: LOVEY DOVEY TO WIN. RACE 7 Scratched from an earlier race I’m all over (6) AMUSEANTES who is just busting to get out over 1350m. Like many others in the family she has a big finish on her which we’ve seen many times this prep however more often than not she’s giving away too much start. The additional 150m today is ideal & I like the booking of Angela Jones to steer. (10) SPECIAL ARTIST has his first run for the Kelly Schweida yard, trialled well & drawn well enough to settle close & figure in the finish late. (8) DRAGONNE ROUGE was much better last start, may need it wetter though? Numbers: 6 – 10 – 8 – 15 Suggested Bet: AMUSEANTES TO WIN. RACE 8 Looking for (5) ZONDEE to fire third run back from a break & also third run for the new stable. Formerly trained down south his wins have been few & far between however both runs this time in suggest he’s not far away from another, strictly each-way though. (1) CASTILLIAN was taken to the front & dictated last start in what was a very smart move from connections tactically, there’s only one other on-paced runner in this race & that’s Mississippi Prince suggesting similar is possible. Expect (9) THINKHARDANDFAST to be running home very strongly late whilst nice & fresh. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 9 – 8 Suggested Bet: ZONDEE EACH-WAY/Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 9 Good competitive race to wind up the meeting with a number of winning chances. (15) CINDERSEA is only lightly raced building a good record. Dominant winner last start she rises in grade however gets a little weight relief & a perfect gate to likely track the speed, not lead it. (3) DOMINANT DARCY is absolutely on fire this prep, another who will look to trail from the ideal draw with the big weight. (2) BLUE SPINEL was back to her best last start when ridden closer courtesy of the good draw, she fares well once again however is up plenty in the weights. Numbers: 15 – 3 – 2 – 8 Suggested Bet: CINDERSEA EACH-WAY/Box up top 4 selections in exotics. Market Market
