Ascot 16 January – Thoroughbreds Preview Posted on January 15, 2016January 15, 2016 | Posted by Greg Hooper Greg Hooper’s Tips RACE 1 – PERTH RACING ON TWITTER HANDICAP 1800m No. 4 VAMPI LASS – We start the day with a small field however you can make a case for a number of runners. VAMPI LASS ran well in the La Trice. She excels at this trip and is in quite well at the weights. (6) DARK ALERT pounded his rivals on Cup Day when sitting wide throughout and coming clear late. The drop back to 1800m is a slight query however he should go well again. (2) THUNDERCLAP NEWMAN should lead and looks a big chance to make it a winning hat-trick. (1) TARQUINN SHADOW next best. Suggested Bet – Vampi Lass win RACE 2 – FLYING COLOURS SUMMER SPECIAL PLATE 1200m No. 10 STORED ENERGY – I’m keen on STORED ENERGY in this two-year-old sprint. She worked home strongly on debut in a race which looks a good form reference. The 1200m looks ideal and this does appear a much easier assignment. (8) THE CELT was very green in his trial win however he looks a promising type. (9) DIAMOND PRINCESS was able to park three wide the trip at Bunbury on debut and prove too strong. (2) GUEST EXPRESS should get a lovely trip from gate 1 and has place claims. Suggested Bet – Stored Energy and save The Celt RACE 3 – PERTH WAITANGI DAY AT ASCOT FEB 6 HANDICAP 1400m No. 4 THE DANKSTER – Lightly raced seven-year-old THE DANKSTER looks well placed and can break through for a much deserved win. He improved sharply at his most recent start when settling just behind the speed and finishing well over 1200m. He’s 2/2 over 1300m and had excuses at his only run over this trip. (7) TUDOR BOLT was very stiff at his most recent start and he thundered home prior to that. Harvey goes on which is a big plus. (2) VENGABUS is a query over 1400m however he leads and is very tough. (3) GIGANTE beats most of these on class alone. Suggested Bet – The Dankster 1 win / 2 places RACE 4 – PERTH RACING NEWSLETTER PLATE 1400m No. 7 CONE BAY – CONE BAY put on a clinic when resuming from a spell at Bunbury. He sat on the speed and powered clear to win by a space. He should lead again from his good draw and take a power of beating. (11) WAR IN PARIS broke her maiden with a strong all the way win at Bunbury. (10) LIGHT UP THE SKY is finding it hard to win however she gets all the favours from her good draw. (6) GREAT SHOT has impressed in both career starts. Suggested Bet – Keen on Cone Bay RACE 5 – LUNAR RACEDAY FEB 13 HANDICAP 1200m No. 9 SIXPENCE SPENT –Keen on both SIXPENCE SPENT and PARIS DREAM in this race. There is very little between them as was shown at Bunbury on 28 December where they ran 1 and 2 and there was a space to the remaining field. At the prices I’ll go for SIXPENCE SPENT who looks a very promising type. (11) PARIS DREAM goes close. (5) ANOTHER VISION is hard to catch but if he brings his bets he goes close. (10) SILVER ROMANCE will derive plenty from his first-up run. Suggested Bet –Sixpence Spent and Paris Dream RACE 6 – $100,000 LISTED MISS ANDRETTI STAKES 1100m No. 5 LUCKY STREET – This looks LUCKY STREET’S race. He was terrific in the Summer Scorcher making a big late dive but just missing behind the gun mare Sheidel. For a feature sprint this race is devoid any real early tempo and if Harvey can get him out of the machine quickly he should lead on his ear and take a power of beating. The three times he has led he has smacked his rivals. (3) FIRST AMONG EQUALS is the danger. He attacked the line in the Scorcher. (1) ROCK MAGIC has the class to beat the remainder. (2) DUETON is always a strong place hope. Suggested Bet –Lucky Street win RACE 7 – FIRES APPEAL – WWW.APPEALSWA.ORG.AU HANDICAP 1000m No. 5 BRACKETS – There is speed to burn in this sprint and think it might set it up for the ones tucked in just behind it. BRACKETS looks just about ready at his third run back from a spell. Barrier 6 looks ideal as he should be able to get the drop on the leaders and stay out of trouble. (4) UNIVERSAL MOON will likely sit off the speed and thunder to the line. (7) KENNOCHA is a consistent sprinter who was a big first-up winner last campaign. The bar shoes going on is a query. (3) CLASSICAL PRINCE has trialled well. Suggested Bet – Brackets each-way RACE 8 – 5 SATURDAYS OF SUMMER – $5 ONLY HANDICAP 1500m No. 4 BARAKI BEATS – Wide open finish to the day. BARAKI BEATS looks very close to a win. If he can step away cleanly to lead he will give them plenty to run down. (10) SOCIALLY UNIQUE was a big first-up winner at Pinjarra and Pike retains the mount. (3) FO’ SHIZZLE ran well first-up after being caught wide. (6) EXPRESS DANCER is up in distance however beats most of these on class alone. Suggested Bet – Baraki Beats each-way QUADDIE RACE 5 –2, 5, 9, 10, 11 RACE 6 – 3, 5 RACE 7 – 4, 5, 7 RACE 8 – 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, 10 Bet Now
