Glenn Ingram’s Saturday Caulfield Preview

RACE 1

Good pace expected. SLANE is the obvious speed, pressure from FEAR NO EVIL  and then EMPEROR TZU and SAPPHIRE SIREN thereabouts, the latter was super impressive winning fresh at Sandown without a public trial but had the market support and has been given a break since, a good chance to repeat with luck from the draw. HAARACAINE is ready to improve on what he did last time in, like the way he’s been jumping out at Flemington, can run a big race first-up. FLAG FLYER generally improves second-up and rough hope at the minor money.

Selections: 12-3-9-7

Suggested Bet: SAPPHIRE SIREN each way

RACE 2

Good race but many on a Derby path and tactics will play could play the biggest role. ARASHI FLASH has been well-found off one good performance stepping up in distance last start, further rise in trip suits and can ride the speed to win again. FRANK WHISHPER is also a maiden winner on the rise and was given a quiet jumpout at Sandown last week, needs to be positive from soft gate. ICY YOU is a promising stayer, he’s dour and may need 2000m now. UTOPIC FUTURE impressed on debut, poor effort in a slow race last start, more speed expected this time.

Selections: 1,2,3,4

Suggested Bet: ARASHI FLASH win

RACE 3

Keen WINNASEDGE, brings the right form for this open sprint with a good map, returning from a freshen up and jumped out impressively at Flemington last week. Weight may be the only handbrake. Respect the first-up runners BEV’S NINE switching states and SPYWIRE who was super first-up last time in. BEHAVIOUR has the fitness and weight but unlikely to get near the speed to make use of it. PALLATON fresh up for G Begg, jumpouts no guide, watch betting?

Selections: 2,3,1,11

Suggested Bet: WINNASEDGE win

RACE 4

Open race for the fillies, barriers play a big part, TOLAGA BAY has Mick Dee jumping off PROFLIGATE but drew poorly out wide and has speed underneath her from ICELADY, they can pair off. GRINZINGER HEART can also add speed up front. The Begg horse PROFLIGATE has a good draw, may need further already. SAINTLY DANCER was a strong, fighting winner at Sandown from the box-seat, then went back last start and was poor, expect more intent early using a better draw. AETHERA won up the straight and that may be her calling.

Selections: 8,5,10,9

Suggested Bet: TOLAGA BAY each way

RACE 5

No speed and not a race with much depth. BLIND RAISE has the speed to roll across without pressure, should be fitter again on a middle-distance program this campaign and appears the one to beat. WOLF GOD was given little hope of winning at Sandown first-up and rocketed home in fast splits. I suspect he’s a miler and may not be sharp enough on a modest speed. Stablemate AMERICAN EAGLE will have to follow Shinn’s lead or risk getting back and needing luck, the draw is not ideal either way.

Selections: 3,5,2,8

Suggested Bet: BLIND RAISE win

RACE 6

Strong speed with most of it drawn wide. Easy to like BRIDAL WALTZ after a game first-up run, should land in behind them and get a soft trip in running. POINT BARROW has an electric turn of foot with the speed on and may pay to forgive the first-up run at 1000m when never in the race, dry track favours. TERILEE can run a race at bolters odds, she lands a good map to sprint well fresh, always promised more than what she’s delivered to this point. SHADHAVAR has to be respected in current form, best hope is going straight to the front, wide draw tricky.

Selections: 10,3,11,7

Suggested Bet: TERILEE 1 x 4

RACE 7

Waller gang tackling with three runners, the fourth a scratching, whose turn is the question. LINDERMANN dictating terms with the flying COSMIC CRUSADER expected to land closer to the speed this time after giving away too much ground and storming home at Caulfield. BIRDMAN has some tactical speed and BUCKAROO won’t be far off from a good draw and races well at Caulfield.

Selections: 1,5,6,2

Suggested Bet: Exotics

RACE 8

Maher has a stranglehold on the race with the owner-mates ZAHRANN and SAINT GEORGE, the latter is a real winner, flying this campaign and seems to thrive with gaps between runs, the barrier is rough. DEAKIN was excellent first-up and showed it at the trials leading in, good map if he can sit closer this time. ZAHRANN is well-weighted, hit the line nicely fresh, need to see him to do it three weeks between runs. DARKBONEE can get back on track, neat jumpout between runs to have him fitter third-up.

Selections: 3,11,14.20

Suggested Bet: Exotics

RACE 9

REGAL AWARD can do plenty wrong, left alone in front and given his wayward head probably the best way to ride him and his best chance in this field. If he is let rip that will bring a horse like WARNIE into contention, strong support for him at Sandown and got the speed required from stablemate TENNESSEE BOUND and can see the same race shape forming again. FEROCE is airborne for Dom Sutton, ran well first-up and generally improves second-up with a jumpout between runs. LADY SHENADOAH the best of Waller’s trio. VON HAUKE a must for multiples.

Selections: 13,7,8,9

Suggested Bets: REGAL AWARD & WARNIE

RACE 10

Three good chances at the bottom of the weights scale. Good tempo expected with PORTER in the race and that suits SAVOYARD a big improver with fitness after his first-up run, has a touch of class but will need to come down the middle of the track if that’s no disadvantage. Giving GRAND OMAHA a good winning chance, coming from QLD with residual fitness for the 1400m and has been impressive at the jumpouts for an in-form stable. CRUISERWEIGHT carries a spruik, had his chance last start, the good draw favours.

Selections: 15,19,17,7

Suggested Bet: GRAND OMAHA 1 x 3
