Scott Embry’s Monday Bunbury Preview

RACE 1

DEEPEST DESIRE hasn’t been seen since trialling on 17 November and was scratched recently (again) so he’s clearly had a few issues to get through, but based off what he showed behind Kat Five in that trial when winding up strongly under little riding, he looks worth the wait. Like the way he moved and there’s a few speedy types who might be vulnerable late here. MY TESTIMONY is one of those but with only 52kg she’ll be in front for a long way again. MAYTHISBETHEONE was $26 into $6 fresh and wasn’t disgraced behind Written Words and Just Walter John (both race over the Long Weekend). HARD TO IGNORE was sharp in her 400m jump out win.

Numbers: 2 – 4 – 3 – 7

Suggested Bet – DEEPEST DESIRE WIN

RACE 2

SHARPASSA drew barrier 9/9 on debut and did it tough out three deep the trip when finishing third. She also lay inwards badly with Willie Pike unable to fully test her late. Jason Miller goes with a set of winkers and a lugging bit on and Lucy Fiore is afforded a much more favourable barrier. Like this set up for her a lot. HOT CHIX LANE was really popular on debut at Northam in a maiden that had a fair bit of depth to it. She’s produced first-up, no trial by David Harrison and has barrier 1 to use to her advantage. Think she’ll be winning race this prep and this is a great winnable starting point for her. ZIOLITE has only 52.5kg and did win her most recent trial at Lark Hill by 1L margin. MACHINEMDOWN will appreciate a senior.

Numbers: 3 – 4 – 8 – 5

Suggested Bet – SHARPASSA WIN

RACE 3

MAGIC CARATS had Pike on Wednesday and scratched. At the time it looked brave but now given the lack of quality and depth of opposition in this 1677m maiden compared to the race on Wednesday won by Morf it looks a great move. Threw the race away with poor manners last time out and can make amends here. Looks odds on given the horrendous nature of this maiden. EXCAVATION was beaten 16.2L last start but was wide throughout and working. Has done it tough at his last two from awkward draws and now gets a barrier and a senior back on. Logical improver. KODY’S BELLE comes through a race where the majority of the field were beaten out of sight. Hard to follow one beaten 10L but she was actually alright. BUSTER BIFF did win a 950m trial leading into this prep and that’s something not many of these could say they’ve done!

Numbers: 1 – 4 – 8 – 6

Suggested Bet – MAGIC CARATS WIN

RACE 4

QUEEN SELYSE looks ready to win. She finished second to Tora Bora at 1400m before going back to 1200m and finishing third to Slick and Can’t Catch Me (looks a big winning chance on Sunday at Pinjarra). DMac / Nottle – POT unbelievable and looks the best drawn/mapped of the main fancies in an even contest. VAMPI QUEEN made her debut in the Two Time Charlie / Watto’s Mark (goes around Saturday) formline and will only improve from a better barrier, over more ground and with race day experience. SAFEDEEL went down on his nose out of the barriers at his WA debut (in that same race) and did a great job to pick himself up and still run fourth. BARNEY ROMMEL tailed out on debut at 1000 and caught the eye behind now C1 winner Elvira Star and then two starts later finished a strong second to $1.26 pop Hobble’s Dragon. He’s going along well.

Numbers: 9 – 12 – 3 – 2

Suggested Bet – QUEEN SELYSE WIN

RACE 5

VENUS KING trialled quite well behind Mai Aloha in a fast run heat and then was never in the contest first-up in a leader dominated race. Like the move to both a senior rider and the step to 1677m because he looks a big lump of a horse who will respond to hard riding. This is a very winnable race for him and his only win so far was B.Parnham, over a mile(ish) at Bunbury on speed. ANNIE WARBUCKS beat him home comfortably in that same event after parking wide and working throughout. She’s the logical danger and likely favourite? TOSEN IMPACT brings intrigue at his WA debut. His only win was a 2000m maiden at Tatura (Vic Country form) and looks like he’ll need every inch of this. LAKEVIEW LIGHTNING did finish 2.5L off them in a 60+ Grad back in October.

Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 4

Suggested Bet – VENUS KING WIN

RACE 6

GALWAY SHAWL looks a nice mare in the making. She won impressively on debut at the Bunbury 1000 and then two starts alter won a C1 and then a C3. She’s three from four so far, has had a 2 month let-up, has trialled up really well for her return and found a winnable C5 to kick off in. She’ll get back regardless and looks to have a class edge on her rivals. Nice stepping stone on her way to bigger and better things. DESERT LIFE is a mid-week winning 3 year old and that day she got the better of Champion Fillies Placed Fine Star. Finsihed less than 1L off them in a 3 year old Saturday too and now resumes in shades. MANTUA finished a narrow second to Galway Shawl last time they met and has dropped another 2 points since then. LOST GRAVITY is nicely placed.

Numbers: 2 – 8 – 3 – 1

Suggested Bet – GALWAY SHAWL WIN

RACE 7

ROLLING RULER is placed to perfection by Bruce Watkins. He’s a 60+ Graduation winner resuming in a C3 and should have no troubles with the 60.5kg being a big strong type. The query could be barrier 1 but trusting that he jumps to hold a spot and then an use that size to push his way into the clear on straightening. He should prove too big and powerful for these in what looks a big end to the program for Brucey Watkins. PINGERS resumed in a C1 1000 and just got the better of Ripper Farooq in the final stride to win. Now has a set of shades going on and is versatile. Speed enough to cross, but also looks a better animal saved up. MISS FINKMEYER won well third-up and only has 52.5kg on her back taking on the older horses. WARBY RANGES took all before him in a great dirt preparation for Timo Pike. But can he gallop on the grass?

Numbers: 1 – 7 – 9 – 5

Suggested Bet – ROLLING RULER WIN
