Scott Embry’s Saturday Geraldton Preview Posted on March 3, 2023March 3, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 BIDAYA is a former Godolphin mare who had her first run for John Reynolds over 1100m when finishing less than a length off them in fourth behind Queen Tiffany. Loomed the winner on straightening but couldn’t quite reel them in. From barrier 1 Renee Forrest (who rode her in her impressive trial win) can either kick through to lead or take cover leader’s back. Looks winnable again. BOLD PROPHET continues to race well without breaking through. Drops an extra kilo with ZJP going on. ZERO DAWN was excellent at her one and only start for Ryan Hill in a metro maiden at Belmont Park. Now heads up to Tony Scally and is race fit. DESTRUCTOR continues to come back in distance. Numbers: 10 – 4 – 12 – 1 Suggested Bet – BIDAYA WIN RACE 2 ISOLA BAY returns to the races after a highly successful Broome preparation with Rob Gulberti. The little gelding won a C2, 2x 58+ and a 70+ when leading throughout on each occasion. In fact adding in his maiden win at Geraldton and his second win at Narrogin he has only ever won races from in front on straightening. Given his racing pattern the ZJP claim is important and he should be able to come across and park outside of Admiral Husson. They’ll go quick and he’ll hit the front on straightening. MATERIAL WITNESS is well suited to racing in these c70+ events. He’ll be charging at them late as they tire. JUPITER RISING pinched another race last start. This is deeper. THREE SESSIONS can be hit and miss but on his day he’s quality. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 2 – 7 Suggested Bet – ISOLA BAY WIN RACE 3 ALTERNO seems to go well fresh. He won the Northam Traders (C5 1300) at his first start in WA and then struck a few wet tracks over winter in which he seems to completely spin the wheels. Liked his trial, loved his fresh run and excited by the fact Rhys Radford has taken him up to Geraldton to find a winnable race. Very well suited to c58+ grade. HIGHEST REGARD is hard to run down once he strikes form. He should roll to the top in this and make his own luck. Ready to win. UNI QUEEN is 86 days between runs and fresh back at 1400m. She’s another live hope in a good race. Worth noting that Kate Witten has been booked to ride Uni Queen over Highest Regard. SIGNIFICANT HERO’s racing pattern is always against him. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 4 – 5 Suggested Bet – ALTERNO WIN RACE 4 SPEED BUBBLE has been first past the post on both occasions this preparation. Won his maiden and then was relegated to second on Stewards Protest last start after looking to roll around on straightening. Because of the Upheld Protest he actually is able to drop in grade from a C2 back into a C1. One of those unique situations where if you rate him off his last start based on strict finishing positions, he should be simply too good for these. TOWNSVILLE looks the danger. Comes through the same race and was completely KO’d half way up the straight. WARPIPES has run two good races on the grass since joining Greg Criddle. HELL RAIDER continues to attack the line but can’t quite find the right race. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – SPEED BUBBLE WIN RACE 5 YES MISS JANE was 38 days between runs when winning last start. She’s 38 days between runs going into this. Clearly Rhona Macphilomey has worked out something about her. Fresh is best. She’s drawn the right gate, on the right prep and would have been a good thing beat if she didn’t get clear galloping room last start. POP THE MOET was allowed to stride last start by Kayla Cross and clearly appreciated it. He ran the first 600m 4.5L faster than average and the last 600 2.5L slower than average. He simply ran them off their feet and was too sharp for them. If he rolls to the top and reproduces he takes running down. ORISTANO carried big weights all last preparation and ran big races in defeat. Jury out on whether he’s an apprentice’s horse. DEMERITISE has been going well in harder. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet – YES MISS JANE WIN RACE 6 BRISANCE was a lot better last start and that form through Speed Bubble could look even stronger should he be successful in Race 4. Took a few starts for Barry Newnham to get the best out of him but now that he’s found form hopefully he can hold it. Last 90 days Barry Newnham has had 15 runners for 7 winners at 47% strike rate and 141% POT. Hard not to follow up. TRADED CROWN won well two starts ago and then was solid last start considering the run he endured. Another tricky alley but he’s clearly going well enough. IHTS CLOSING INN comes back to Geraldton after being alright in town recently. VANMAN comes back in trip. He’s a hard horse to follow and trust. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 6 – 1 Suggested Bet – BRISANCE WIN RACE 7 CALL AGAIN an improver coming into a c70+. If he finds the top, he’ll roll them along and be hard to get past late. Third-up last preparation he went to a C5 mile at Northam and lead throughout to victory. Open race this without any standouts and he should be competitive. KOLCHINO will come out running from a wide draw. Hasn’t fired in two runs in town but this is a much more suitable assignment. SANS LE SOU is starting to lose a few loyal followers. Not showing the same zest for racing. DARK PEAK gets a soft run. Query at a mile. Numbers: 2 – 9 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – CALL AGAIN EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 1,2 1,2,5,7 2,3,6 FD Market Market
