Scott Embry’s Thursday Geraldton Preview Posted on April 20, 2022April 20, 2022 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 BRISANCE showed a lot of gate speed last start and ran a far better race than when disappointing at his return. From the gate Troy Turner should have no troubles holding up and from there he’s the one to run down. TAKEMEHOMETONIGHT went up sharply in distance last start in a move that simply didn’t work. Back to the sprint trip, back to a country maiden and shades back on. BARACAP wasn’t too bad at trials. KANDAKA has only been fair in her trials this time in. Numbers: 3 – 6 – 8 – 7 Suggested Bet – BRISANCE WIN RACE 2 STELLA FAIR should find the front and control this race. She had won three in a row before last start when fourth in the Abrohlos Plate behind Corn Cob when settling rearward against her normal race pattern. In this event she can bounce straight on the lead and dictate terms to them. Expecting her to meet with support and prove very hard to run down. JAG THE JOKER won well last start and is the obvious danger on paper. Likely to park on the tow ball of the leader and track her every move. DARK PEAK has come back bigger and better this time in. Hard to fault anything she has done since breaking her maiden. SIGNIFICANT HERO next best. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – STELLA FAIR WIN RACE 3 POPCORN TENDER looks ready to win. Last start was awkwardly dropping from a mile back to 1200m in the middle of a preparation and thought he did a super job to finish third behind shock winner Bangcrash and Foxy Son. Much better suited stepping out to a mile and goes around an eachway quote. There are no stars in this and he looks like he’ll run out the trip. PATCHWORK is likely to go round on the shorter side with CJP taking the ride. Comes from a strong form race behind Featherweight, Wunderkind and Star Present and would be great to see Martin Allan’s yard turn a corner after a lean run. UNCANNY TIMING is hard to catch but going alright. CALAG can lead and kick. Numbers: 4 – 5 – 6 – 2 Suggested Bet – POPCORN TENDER EACHWAY RACE 4 THE WITCH DOCTER has had a good preparation for the new yard and Adam Durrant is placing her to perfection. Won two races back to back at York and at Ascot in 46+ and 50+ company before striking a Soft7 track at Geraldton and looking to spin the wheels a little in the home straight. The Dark Peak, Pit To Win form is strong for this grade and with CJP back in the saddle expecting a bold showing. IMAGE KEEPER trialled particularly well before being well supported in a tougher race than this at Kalgoorlie. Much better suited in this. ASK AN ANGEL has put together two highly impressive wins for Victoria Corver and Ray Burns. MR ROSSI was brave at Geraldton on Dongara Cup Day when marching throughout. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 6 – 7 Suggested Bet – THE WITCH DOCTOR WIN RACE 5 SOVIET SPY went around $2.10 in a 70+ at Albany two starts ago when getting minimal luck in running (got caught up in a pocket as a momentum, wind-up type) and then went to a 66+ 2400 at Ascot when finshing 3L off Winifer, Black Chips and Without Reason. Finished alongside subsequent Albany Cup winner Tena Koutou and this is a much easier race. With CJP back aboard just needs to navigate a path away from the fence at some stage. HONORFIC sustained a run last start with 59.5kg and finished second to Celebrity Witness. Proven stayer and back in grand form. PROXY can lead without much pressure. OUR IDYLL is only just grinding at the minute. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 6 – 1 Suggested Bet – SOVIET SPY WIN RACE 6 CORN COB has been one of the finds of the season at Geraldton this year alongside Startrade and Three Sessions (we already knew Kenyluck was a little ripper). The way he won the Abrohlos Plate would suggest he is just getting better and better with racing and from the most impressive part is that he has now won from almost every position in running. He has lead and won, he has tracked the leaders and won and he has sat back in his races and finished over them. SAVAGE ONE finished second to Jag The Joker and we’ll see the strength of that form reference earlier on in the program. JUPITER RISING can hug the fence and get it cheap. QUALITY FAIR might be able to cross and that gives him a sniff. Numbers: 4 – 6 – 5 – 1 Suggested Bet – CORN COB WIN RACE 7 MY MARLAINA won a 3 year old 0MWLY at Ascot two starts ago when finding the front and controlling the race. Last start went to a 3 year old Plate on a Saturday and finished within 2L of My Dilemma, Success Play, War Gem, Harmika and Featherweight. While 60.5kg is a big ask for a 3 year old filly her recent form stands up head and shoulders above her rivals. EDMUND has been a model of consistency since arriving in WA. Caught between grades but is probably best suited carrying the weight like he does here. SLY AS A FOX has come back a better horse this campaign after a let up. FOXY SON is drawn awkwardly and was given every mortal hope last start. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – MY MARLAINA WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,3,6 2,3 4,6 1,2,3 Market Market
