Runner by Runner: WA Pacing Cup Posted on February 2, 2022February 3, 2022 | Posted by Trent Cooper Photo: Hamilton Content Creators 1. Miracle Moose Trainer: Nathan Turvey Driver: Emily Suvaljko Gained a start with an impressive victory over Magnificent Storm last week and adds great interest to the race. Has an in form driver and the barrier to be prominent throughout and play a part in the finish. 2. Mighty Conqueror Trainer: Greg & Skye Bond Driver: Colin Brown Former WA Pacing Cup winner who worked hard from a wide barrier in the Fremantle Cup but still appears to be below his best. The barrier draw is in his favour and the distance suits if he can return to his best form. 3. Hampton Banner Trainer: Debra Lewis Driver: Jocelyn Young Recent form has been solid enough to earn him a start and he is possessed with great gate speed and may be the first to find the pegs. The distance in this company may be beyond him and he may be looking for an early trail on one of the more fancied runners. 4. Balcatherine Trainer: Gary Hall Snr Driver: Aiden De Campo This mare was a solid 5th in the Fremantle Cup. Has proven she is up to the company and led throughout to defeat Magnificent Storm four starts back. She may have a crack for the early lead and if she was to achieve that role would give a great sight at the each-way odds on offer. 5. Papinik Trainer: Ross Olivieri Driver: Chris Voak The new kid on the block so far as fast class is concerned and is jumping in the deep end for his first assignment. Has been extremely impressive working through the classes and has taken some big scalps along the way. He has a wonderful turn of foot at the end of his races If he can settle just off the pace and cannot be discounted. 6. Magnificent Storm Trainer: Ray Williams Driver: Aldo Cortopassi Has won 19 of his 24 career starts but hasn’t been at his best at his last two starts which is a concern for punters. At his best he is the horse to beat and given the distance and the draw it will be interesting to see the tactics adopted. 7. Wildwest Trainer: Gary Hall Snr Driver: Callan Suvaljko Did lead throughout in 1.52.8 here four starts back but he struggles on the Gloucester Park corners when off the pegs. Produced a sound run in the Fremantle Cup when 7th and did beat some very good horses home. It is difficult to see how he can get into the race from this draw. 8. Hurricane Harley Trainer: Justin Prentice Driver: Maddison Brown Was placed from a soft run on the pegs behind Minstrel in the Fremantle Cup. The task looks beyond him from this draw and he is much better suited over shorter distances. 9. Diego Trainer: Gary Hall Snr Driver: Deni Roberts Was not far away in the Fremantle Cup but the wide draw is a serious impediment to his chances in this quality field. Would need things to go horribly wrong for the fancied runners to play a part in the finish. 10. Minstrel Trainer: Greg & Skye Bond Driver: Ryan Warwick Fremantle Cup winner but this draw may prove too awkward particularly if there are some early lead changes. There is no doubting his ability and if Ryan Warwick can get him into the clear he is a definite winning chance. 11. Chicago Bull Trainer: Gary Hall Snr Driver: Gary Hall Jnr Grand campaigner with a nice trailing draw and likely to be driven more conservatively than in the Fremantle Cup. There is no doubting his ability and will have many admirers to make amends for his last start failure. 12. Patronus Star Trainer: Greg & Skye Bond Driver: Dylan Egerton Green Charged home off the track when a close second to Minstrel in the Fremantle Cup and if the pace is on we are likely to see a repeat of that performance. Must be considered an each-way chance at the odds on offer. 13. Bletchley Park (1st Emg) Trainer: Stephen Reed Driver: Lindsay Harper Over raced badly last week and with the extra distance and rise in class it his hard to see him playing any part if he secures a start. 14. Galactic Star (2nd Emg) Trainer: Greg & Skye Bond Driver: Deni Roberts Has been struggling to regain best form with only one placing from his last seven starts and would require dramatic improvement and a good draw to play any part. SELECTION: PATRONUS STAR With it unlikely that one of the top fancies finding an easy lead, it is expected that there will be a strong tempo throughout and his closing speed off the pace should see him charging down the outside at good each-way odds.
