Deane Lester’s Flemington Best Bets Posted on March 5, 2021March 5, 2021 | Posted by Deane Lester RACE 4 NO.9 KOOLED The VRC Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) has been a kind race to the Hawkes stable and KOOLED can add to their record by taking out’s this year’s edition. The son of exciting first season sire FRONTED, the grey had trialled like a very good horse leading into his debut run at Canterbury on February 19. Whilst he was beaten into second place, he definitely showed good talent but looked unsuited by the tight Canterbury track. He will relish a step up in distance on the spacious Flemington track and gets the services of champion rider William Pike. It’s an even race that will take a strong horse at the end of 1400 metres and KOOLED appears well equipped to get the job done. RACE 7 NO.2 SILENT SOVEREIGN Talented mare SILENT SOVEREIGN has returned to racing in good form and looks a strong winning chance when she tackles the Matron Stakes (1600m). The four year old returned from a spell with a tough win over 1400 metres at Caulfield on January 30 before enduring a luckless run when finishing 4th behind QUANTUM MECHANIC over 1600 metres at Flemington on February 13. She looks well placed under this weight scale and elite rider Luke Currie, who won on the mare at Caulfield, regains the ride. On a tough meeting for punters, SILENT SOVEREIGN appeals as one of the better bets of the day. RACE 9 NO.10 MISS GUGGENHEIM MISS GUGGENHEIM will be fitter for a luckless fresh run and appeals as a good each way chance when she runs in the Kewney Stakes (1600m). The daughter of Dundeel was slow to begin before being blocked on a couple of occasions when running 7th behind YES BABY YES in the Armanasco Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on February 20. She will appreciate getting up in distance onto a bigger track and Melbourne Cup winning jockey Jye McNeil takes the ride. There doesn’t look to be much between this group of fillies so MISS GUGGENHEIM should be well up to this grade and ready to produce a peak performance. Market Market
