Deane Lester’s Caulfield Best Bets Posted on April 18, 2019 | Posted by Deane Lester Deane Lester’s Best Bets RACE 3 NO.9 PROMETHEUS PROMETHEUS returned to winning form last start and looks the one to beat again when he contest the Benchmark 84 Handicap (1600m). The five year old relished getting onto a dry track to score a comprehensive win in the Grand Handicap Mile (1600m) at Flemington on March 16. The Matthew Dale trained gelding has been given an easy trial at Canberra since that win and looks well graded in this race from a good draw with the in-form Dwayne Dunn taking the ride. This is a very suitable race and PROMETHEUS represents the best bet of the day at Caulfield. RACE 7 NO.7 MANOLO BLAHNIQ MANOLO BLAHNIQ has developed into a reliable stakes class performer and should run well again when he contests the Victoria Handicap (1400m). The five year old worked home well when finishing second behind NAANTALI in the Anniversary Vase (1400m) and should be ready to peak following two runs back from a freshen up. He goes well for Dwayne Dunn, looks drawn to enjoy a cheap run and has had three runs over 1400 metres at Caulfield for a win and two placings. Trainer Tony Noonan has been targeting these races with MANOLO BLAHNIQ and he’s a great winning chance again. RACE 8 NO.10 OCTABELLO The Easter Cup (2000m) looks an open race with a host of chances, however OCTABELLO represents terrific each way value in a competitive race. The four year old won the Cranbourne Cup (2025m) last preparation which is comparable to this class of race and should be fitter for two runs this campaign. He was ridden outside of his comfort zone when racing on the pace before finishing 9th behind HARIPOUR in the Golden Mile (1600m) at Bendigo on March 30. He had a solid hit-out in that race which will bring him to his peak fitness and Damien Oliver takes the ride from a middle draw. He’s a handy horse that looks over the odds and OCTABELLO looks the value chance of the day. Market Market
