Royal Ascot Day 3 Preview Posted on June 21, 2018June 21, 2018 | Posted by David Shortte David Shortte’s Preview Race One (Group 2 Norfolk Stakes – 1000 metres 2 Year Olds) An open affair to kick off the day with a handy bunch of two year old’s engaged. There are formlines from all around the globe clashing in this and American Filly Shang Shang Shang is coming off an impressive debut win at Keeneland in the USA. Vintage Brut has won both of his career starts at Thirsk and Sandown and is open to further improvement while Rumble Inthejungle was an impressive debut winner. I wouldn’t talk you out of anything here as most of these youngsters can come on quickly. I’ll opt for a small each way play on Vintage Brut but there appear easier races on the program. Race Two (Group 3 Hampton Court Stakes – 2000 metres 3 Year Olds) Wadilsafa has been backed from $11 into $8 with TABtouch in early betting and it looked a nice each way play here in the second. The son of Frankel improved sharply at his second career outing when winning a Novice Stakes race at Newmarket and could come on out of that run. Others to consider include Crossed Baton, Hunting Horn, Key Victory and Nordic Lights. SuperPick - Race 3 No. 2 Wild Illusion - Money Back Race Three (Group 2 Ribblesdale Stakes – 2400 metres, 3 Year Old Fillies) Proven Group 1 winning Filly Wild Illusion appeals greatly to me here in the third race of the night. Ran 4th in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket two starts back and was then runner-up in the Group 1 Oaks at Epsom last start. Those formlines look solid for this. Chances are also given to Sun Maiden, Magic Wand and Perfect Clarity. Race Four (Group 1 Gold Cup – 4000 metres) Order Of St George has been 1st and 2nd in this race in the last 2 years and Trainer Aiden O’Brien has been quoted as saying this horse is going just as well this year as he has in the past two seasons. Heads in with wins at his last 3 starts and appeals as the one to beat. Stradivarius looks the clear danger after tasting Group 2 success at its most recent outing. Others to include for the minors are Torcedor, Vazirabad and the horse we have seen in the last 2 Melbourne Cups Max Dynamite. Race Five (Britannia Stakes – 1600 metres) With a field of 30 runners in this field there will be no Tote betting available on this event. Fixed odds each way betting will be available. In a tough affair Curiosity with James McDonald might be worth a small speck at $13. Race Six (King George V Stakes – 2400 metres) Another really tough race to round out the card with 19 runners and $7 the field. I won’t be getting involved but at each way odds Cross Counter, Billy Ray, Dubhe, Making Miracles and Communique are all amongst the winning hopes.
