Deane Lester’s Preview

RACE 4 NO. 1 GAILO CHOP

GAILO CHOP looks the class runner of the field when he lines up in the TS Carlyon Cup (1600m) and should prove very hard to beat. The Darren Weir trained galloper won the Caulfield Stakes (2000m) last campaign before unplaced efforts in the Cox Plate and Emirates Stakes. He has good tactical speed to make his own luck, elite jockey Mark Zahra rides him well and he looks the best bet of the day.

RACE 5 NO. 2 TULIP

The Kevin Hayes Stakes (1200m) promises to be a cracking race for the three year old fillies with many of the quality runners having trialled well in recent weeks, however none more so than TULIP who looks a terrific winning chance in this race. Whilst she didn’t manage a win during her spring campaign, she did run a very brave 5th behind REDZEL in the world’s richest sprint race, The Everest (1200m) at Randwick on October 14. That is a very good form reference for this race and her recent Flemington trials would suggest that she is primed for a big first-up showing.

RACE 8 NO. 3 TOSEN STARDOM

TOSEN STARDOM enjoyed a strong spring campaign with two group one wins and looks poised to make a winning return to the track when he runs in the Group1 Orr Stakes (1400m). The Japanese import scored victories in the Toorak Handicap and Emirates Stakes at the end of the spring and has good form over the Caulfield 1400 metres circuit in the past. Whilst he has the outside barrier draw, there looks good speed in this race which will suit his racing style and TOSEN STARDOM should prove hard to beat.
