Price’s Boulder Cup Magic Posted on September 16, 2016 | Posted by Julio Santarelli Ross Price urges punters not to discount the winning chances of My Magic Miss in Sunday’s Listed Statewest Group Boulder Cup (2100m) at Kalgoorlie. The Bunbury-based trainer is optimistic My Magic Miss can bounce back and atone after she failed to land a blow at Belmont two months ago. The Mastercraftsman mare started favourite but failed on a heavy track, fading to eighth behind the Flirt, beaten nine lengths, after finding the front. It was a rare failure from the grey five-year-old who had produced a sequence of three wins and three placings from her previous six starts. Price, who is chasing his fourth success in the Boulder Cup, is confident My Magic Miss can rebound and run a competitive race. “I would rule a line through her last run and forget she even went around,” Price said. “The conditions on the day with the rain and heavy track were not to her liking. “Her form prior to that run was consistent and worthy of a Boulder Cup attempt. “She won’t disgrace herself and I’m sure she will be competitive.” My Magic Miss, who has won four races from 14 starts for $89.037 in prizemoney, has drawn barrier seven in the field of 13. On the 54kg minimum she will be ridden for the first time by Jason Whiting, who replaces the suspended, Joe Azzopardi. Despite racing first up after an eight week spell Price said My Magic Miss was fit and had recovered well from a warm up trial. “Even though she is first-up she hasn’t stopped working and came through a trial on the sandtrack at Bunbury very well,” Price said. “Although it was only 1000 metres she worked well across the line and she did what was expected of her. “If all goes well and she handles the track then I would consider having a go at the Kalgoorlie Cup.” My Magic Miss is currently rated a $7.50 on Tabtouch. Ihtsahymn and Grand Reward share favouritism at $4.60. Julio Santarelli
