Wayne’s Preview – Scorchers vs Stars Posted on December 24, 2017 | Posted by Wayne Clark Tuesday 26 December, 2017 Talk about defying the odds! The Scorchers showed what belief and commitment they have to each other with a comprehensive win over the Sixers. A magnificent bowling effort to restrict them to 132 showed the depth of the squad. Andrew Tye was again the key wicket taker but everyone played their part. Johnson still creates fear and Richardson is an exciting prospect. My concern is still in the batting. Against a strong Stars line-up, one cannot lose early wicket and rely on others to set a competitive score. The effort of Turner & Voges was exceptional but more will be needed by the top order to beat the Stars. Marcus Stoinos will be keen to perform in his home state, and with Wright and Pieterson, Dunk and Maxwell the Scorchers bowlers will have a battle on their hands. One of the keys to the result maybe the performance of the spinners. Beer and Zampa for the Stars, form a formidable duo, whereas the pressure will be on the sole spinner for the home side in Ashton Agar. Their performance will go a long way in deciding the result of this game. If ever they are going to be a force in this competition, the Stars will need to win this against an under-manned Scorchers line-up.
