The Scout: Women’s World Cup Matchday 6

Group H – Colombia v Korea Republic

Colombia will look to 18-year-old Real Madrid star Linda Caicedo for the x-factor, while Daniela Montoya pulls the strings in midfield. Catalina Usme averages a goal every two games at international level and her efficiency in front of goal will go a long way to deciding the team’s fate.

Korea Republic’s strength could be in midfield with Tottenham Hotspur’s Cho So-hyun and ex-Chelsea star Ji So-yun, with Lee Geum-min of Brighton & Hove Albion in front of them. Goalkeeper Kim Jung-mi and captain Kim Hye-ri boast almost 250 appearances between them, while 16-year-old Casey Phair is uncapped and the first player of mixed heritage to be selected in a Korean World Cup squad.

Group A – New Zealand v Philippines

Co-hosts New Zealand find themselves in a great position following their surprise win over in the tournament opener. Three more points would see them into the knockout stage with a game to spare, and they are expected to go into this game unchanged. That means Hannah Wilkinson remains the focal point of attack and she should prove a handful for the Philippines defence.

Alen Stajcic’s Philippines performed admirably against Switzerland but suffered defeat without registering a shot on target. Captain Tahnai Annis was left on the bench for that game and could come into the line up for this one. Philippines went down 2-1 to New Zealand when the sides met in a friendly last September.

New Zealand to win @ $1.36*

Group A – Switzerland v Norway

Switzerland overcame a potential banana skin against Philippines, dominating possession in the 2-0 win. Expect more of the same, with Lia Walti, Coumba Sow, and Geraldine Reuteler looking to come out on top in the midfield battle. A win will see them into the last 16 with a game to spare.

Another defeat could see Norway eliminated from the tournament already, and they need to bounce from the loss to New Zealand. They lacked end product in that encounter so Vilde Boe Risa is a player who could come into the starting eleven. Ada Hegerberg remains their headline forward, but she needs better service to be a threat to scoresheet.
