The Scout: EPL Week 8

Southampton vs Newcastle

Southampton (5th) are on a roll, undefeated in five matches and Newcastle (11th) are coming off a 2-1 win over Everton.

Southampton’s attacking partnership of Danny Ings and Che Adams is firing at present with the duo combining for seven goals and four assists for the season.

Adding to the strong returns for Southampton has been midfielder James Ward-Prowse. The Englishman has become a set-piece specialist with two first half goals from free kicks against Aston Villa last weekend.

The Saints have scored 11 goals in their last four Premier League fixtures and come up against a Newcastle defense that is yet to keep a clean sheet this season. Southampton themselves have kept three.

Suggested Bet: Southampton (Match Result) @ $1.93*

Chelsea vs Sheffield United

Chelsea have had an up and down season and come up against 19th placed Sheffield United who are yet to win a match and look to be on the path to relegation.

German striker Timo Werner was a new addition for Chelsea this season but took a while to find his feet in the new setup. He was goalless in his first four matches in England but looks to have turned a corner, scoring three goals in three matches.

This Sheffield United defense has conceded at least one goal in all of their Premier League fixtures this season. And with Chelsea looking near certainties in this matchup, Werner will have a (big) class advantage on every player he sees in a Sheffield uniform.

Suggested Bet: Timo Werner (Anytime Goalscorer) @ $1.96*

Manchester City vs Liverpool

Manchester City have been a shadow of their former selves this season while Liverpool sit atop the table and look to be improving with every week.

Liverpool’s recruitment of Diogo Jota looks to be a masterstroke with the Portuguese forward scoring three goals in four matches this season.

Goals haven’t come easy for City who, surprisingly, have only found the back of the net nine times in six games. This is (extremely) uncharacteristic for a roster loaded with talent, but at present it’s hard to see where the goals are going to come from.

Aguero and Gabriel Jesus are under injury clouds and neither will be 100% if they take the field in this match. These are the only true strikers for City which leaves them playing an awkward formation with Sterling and Mahrez as their main attacking weapons.

This shapes as the perfect time for Liverpool to face City who are still searching for spark and form in front of goal.

Suggested Bet: Liverpool (Match Result) @ $3.20*
