Scott Embry’s Wednesday Ascot Preview Posted on January 21, 2025January 21, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 YORGA PRIDE was a strong all the way winner on debut in a race that turned into a brilliant form reference and produced 7 subsequent winners. She backed it up with a narrow but impressive victory against stablemate Janny who went on to win back to back Westspeed races, including the $100,000 Final. Great trial, nice mare. DIAMOND DANCER looked like she was going to win by 5L and then stopped abruptly. Maybe shades off help? Bizarre run. RISING FAME ran well on debut and can lead this. ANOTHER LOVE was $5 to $11 fixed first-up. Market knew she was off. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 5 – 2 Suggested Bet – YORGA PRIDE WIN RACE 2 EXTRA ZERO was beaten 15.4L last start, but given how the race was run I’m going to forgive and forget. At the 800m had to severely check off heels and from that point never looked comfortable again. Prior to that was leading in clear air and running honest races. BUZZ THE TOWER will have plenty of followers off an encouraging debut. My issue is that most will follow him because of how much he did wrong. OPAL TANGO beat him home in that race and is trying hard. DANEA ROCK is a grinding type of mare. Numbers: 5 – 4 – 14 – 7 Suggested Bet – EXTRA ZERO EACHWAY RACE 3 SUNLIT FRESCO is back in her right grade. After dominating a C1 at Bunbury she’s sat four deep the trip in a 60+ Graduation behind two time subsequent winner All Play and then gone to a Summer Scorcher when only beaten 3.5L. Back to a C3, straight to the top and looks very hard to run down from there. CHINO LA DIVA has gone to another level in the last month. Showing versatility and a lot of promise. HOUSEWIFE just goes lengths better for a senior as we saw on 18 December when plunged to victory. AMERICAN ESCAPE didn’t beat much in her maiden but did it in style. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 5 – 7 Suggested Bet – SUNLIT FRESCO WIN RACE 4 THERMOSPHERE LAD looks an all or nothing proposition here. If he jumps (has missed away at his last three, not including the trial) and from barrier 1 if he gets crossed early it’s probably by the 100-1 pop Argyle Star. From there it could become ugly viewing for his followers. He’s going super – he’s just his own worst enemy. SKYTALKER is the class runner of the race but has a wide gate and 61kg. KERMIT’S LUCK wasn’t horrible fresh. CRUISE TO RIO just may want further. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 5 – 4 Suggested Bet – THERMOSPHERE LAD WIN RACE 5 PROMISING just makes sense. After an effortless win down the 1000m straight Trevor Andrews backed her up 6 days later into a white hot 3 year old Plate when running third behind Shmoov Moova and subsequent winner Supernatural. That’s great form for a C1 midweek. NATIVE FLOWER comes through two high rating races, but she just seems to lack a killer instinct. ZIPPY ZANY was a forgive last start when drawing and racing wide. SCHUHBECK a watch for his new stable. Numbers: 7 – 6 – 8 – 11 Suggested Bet – PROMISING WIN RACE 6 ZOUBOLTZ might sneak under the radar here. He actually goes far better fresh than his record suggests and from the gate he might be able to position up a pair closer than usual. Didn’t mind his trial and think he’s worth an eachway ticket. GOLDEN DORE was some win at Albany. He was very well placed into a country C2 by Dave Hopperton, but he was levels above and won like a horse who belonged in town. If they can make ground, he’s the one. If they can’t, he’s in trouble. CHOIXWAY had to overcome interference at Gero to win first-up. LIEUTENANT DUNBAR isn’t far away. Numbers: 9 – 1 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – ZOUBOLTZ EACHWAY RACE 7 BELLE JOURNEE is having her 10th run of the preparation and last start was unsuited by dropping from 1600m back to 1200m. Thought all things considered she ran well and this is a nice middle ground for her. Reproduces the Papavero Princess run from three back and she’s hard to hold out. ROMMEL’S GODDESS won well this track/grade/distance last time out. KELORA hasn’t raced for 39 days but maps to get a gun run and did win back to back 1400m races in October/November. CANGGU is a previous winner off a month’s freshen. Numbers: 9 – 10 – 3 – 11 Suggested Bet – BELLE JOURNEE EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,3,4,5 7 1,2,9 3,6,9,10,11 Market Market
