Scott Embry’s Wednesday Ascot Preview Posted on December 19, 2023December 19, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 KINGS HONOUR sizzled around Lark Hill in 56.19. He wasn’t brilliantly away but he quickly mustered and then really extended in the middle stages of that trial to get the rest of them uncomfortable. Given there’s a 20km Easterly forecast for the entire meeting logics dictates it’ll be on speed and if he can jump and run he’ll make a race of this on debut. SIBERIAN SIREN has blinkers on and was afforded no luck at her return to racing. She’s a handy filly who hasn’t had much go right at the races just yet. CHARLIE JANE won first-up last preparation stalking a strong tempo. Looks the same set up. HOT NOVA has again trialled well. Numbers: 6 – 8 – 7 – 9 Suggested Bet – KINGS HONOUR WIN RACE 2 CRYSTAL ROSE is no star, in fact, she’s just a battler, but with the perfect track conditions and the ideal map she looks to get her opportunity. She’ll be the first out of the machine and then if Laqdar Ramoly can pinch a cheap section or two in the middle stages he can start to sneak away before the bend. There’s a lot of back marking types in this and she’ll look to pinch it. BLAZING EMERALD looks the obvious danger. Continues to get back and attack the line. Interesting to see whether she can hold a spot from a more favourable alley or not. MR MEGSEY might be a tough watch if he’s shuffled back along the rail. CANGGU can roll forward and look for the breeze. Numbers: 7 – 14 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – CRYSTAL ROSE EACHWAY RACE 3 BAYEZID was too speedy for both Snippenova and Bisector when they met at Bunbury on 22 November. Ultimately Stormchaser gunned him down but he still had their measure for early dash and in terms of their finishing positions. He has since won down the 1000m straight and they’ve worked out that the only way to ride him is for pure speed. Perfect conditions to do that again here. SNIPPENOVA was a different mare last start when finding the fence. She’ll come out quick but can she cross Bayezid? BISECTOR again looks the meat in the sandwich drawn outside of Bayezid/Snippenova but inside of Final Authority. FINAL AUTHORITY is also quick but he’s drawn the widest of all of them. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 7 – 3 Suggested Bet – BAYEZID WIN RACE 4 BECALOTTI stepped back out to 1400m last start and was fair in fourth behind Fast Flicker and subsequent winners Hesket and Secret Attraction. She’s drawn underneath of Hesket and meets him 1.5kg better at the weights. If conditions are indeed suiting those leading and rolling then she’s found another winnable race. HESKET got the job done in the Grandstand Cup after running into some in form types and being beaten small margins. Hard to knock the way he’s going. ROCKING THE CASBAH was able to control last start in a race run 9L slower than average. This is a lot deeper. BIRKETT BOY had genuine excuses first-up. Dislodged the rider and galloped around loose before being cleared to run and then being held up as the three and four deep line built momentum. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – BECALOTTI EACHWAY RACE 5 FASHION STAKES has been back to trials since her last start when pulling up with issues. She’s drawn and mapped to get a lovely run right up over the stop of the speed and she comes back into a C1 for the first time this preparation and comes back to 1200m. She’s always shown glimpses of ability and Neville Parnham has been the form trainer of the last 3 months. HAPPY AS LARRY was racing around in 3 year old Saturday company when last in work. 1200m might be on the shorter side for him but if Lisa Staples can get him out and get him across he’s a legitimate threat. TRESPASSING went from a maiden win into a 60+ Graduation. This is much more suitable. JUST ADORABELLE will need to defy the likely pattern to win. Numbers: 6 – 4 – 2 – 7 Suggested Bet – FASHION STAKES EACHWAY RACE 6 ESPRIT GARCON is the one galloper on the entire program that everyone will be waiting to see race again. Happy to say he’s the best horse in the race, happy to say he’ll be winning races of a better quality than a midweek 60+ and more than happy to tip him, but if he goes back from barrier 13 of 13 and nothing has made any ground by Race 6 then you’d be nervous taking the $1.70/$1.80 on offer. Big watch. Exciting horse. EXCELTRAIN can track the speed from barrier 1 and showed when last in work when placing in a 66+ that he’s a Saturday horse in the making. BIGDAYONIT can really get rolling when he’s right. Keep safe if the leaders are getting away from them. PACIFIC BOXER obviously loves Narrogin but he’s a capable type in the metro area. Numbers: 4 – 5 – 3 – 9 Suggested Bet – ESPRIT GARCON WIN RACE 7 NEUFBOSC loomed up to Black Fantasy on straightening last start and just looked to peak on the run over the last 200m. He gets a 3kg weight swing on Black Fantasy here and Jason Brown should be able to park him 1×1 on the back of Black Fantasy and Diamond Scene. That pair will take him right into the home corner and the old boy looks like he’s peaking just in time for a tilt at another Perth Cup. 20-1 looks a big price. DESENNAE and DIAMOND SCENE bring alternate form as they try to rack up enough points to get them into the Cup. DESENNAE had ear muffs going on last start in an attempt to settle off speed and it paid dividends. DIAMOND SCENE can roll forward to the breeze and is a genuine stayer. BLACK FANTASY broke his Ascot duck last start when winning. Still not convinced he overly enjoys the circuit but he’s classy. Numbers: 11 – 7 – 6 – 2 Suggested Bet – NEUFBOSC EACHWAY RACE 8 FLASH PADDY broke his maiden in style once Pike found the gap. He is the full brother to Paddy’s Shadow (Bunbury Cup winner) and he looks a handy stayer in the making. This is a nice stepping stone for him on his way to bigger and better things. Concussion Plates going on and odds on doesn’t make him a betting proposition however. BELLE JOURNEE comes through a fast run C3 and only peaked in the last 200. TELL NOTHIN’ a mad one for wider exotics at cricket score odds. EXPELLIARMUS should roll to the top. Numbers: 1 – 8 – 13 – 3 Suggested Bet – FLASH PADDY WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 2,4,6,7,9 3,4,5 1,2,4,6,7,11,12 1,8 Market Market
