Scott Embry’s Thursday Northam Preview Posted on October 28, 2025October 28, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 EXCEED THE BOOM has drawn tricky first-up and second-up (8/9 and 9/10). This is the first race this prep that Holly Watson can ride her own race and think he’ll be hard to beat settling a few pairs closer in running. Going well so far without any luck. BRUTALLY BRAD won a back straight Lark Hill 930m trial by over 3L in fairly good time by comparison too, and now on debut Pike is booked to ride. She was scratched from a race at Ascot back in march and then had to spell so clearly a set back but given she was a 2 year old filly then it may prove to be a blessing. HOT AND HIGH won her trial but was asked to extend. ITS TRICKY has had more trials than OJ Simpson. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 6 – 7 Suggested Bet – EXCEED THE BOOM WIN RACE 2 DOOR BUSTER stepped out to a 1000m trial at Belmont and got the job done. Would definitely have preferred if this was the short course for her and think she could be a bit vulnerable late in the race, however, this isn’t the strongest maiden so she gets her chance on the 54kg limit. CHE FIGATA was sent out a $2.50 favourite first-up at Belmont last preparation and pulled up lame. Was immediately spelled and was wide throughout in his trial. Just needs to overcome the wide draw. CALATHINITE looks like a handy horse in the making. Still very green but looks to cover the ground nicely. LADY KIKI is a 4 year old mare on debut off the back of only one barrier trial. Was winding up well late. Numbers: 13 – 3 – 10 – 11 Suggested Bet – DOOR BUSTER WIN RACE 3 BERRY BLAST was brave last start. She did only have the 51kg after the Jefferson Tsang claim but Streamlined (who is likely Fairetha Stakes – WA Guineas bound) loomed large at the 200m marker and looked like he was going to power away and win by 3 – 4L until this filly kicked back underneath him and fought hard to the line. Pike jumps aboard and provided she gets across without burning too much fuel looks hard to beat here. INVINCIBLE THIEF is also drawn wide and can march across into a prominent position as well. Sound return when second to Hoya Destroyer who has shown above average maiden ability. ROSENTREA seems to go lengths better for Holly Nottle than anyone else. HIGH REEL looks like she wants 2000+. Numbers: 13 – 5 – 6 – 12 Suggested Bet – BERRY BLAST WIN RACE 4 HERAULT gave the impression at trials and firs-tup that he would be a horse who would appreciate a bit further so that he could find his feet and attack the line. Liked the first-up run, especially considering he went back towards the inner part of the track which wasn’t he place to be at that meeting. ADMIRE ASTRA was crunched on debut into odds on and ran alright when beaten by Kazana (who had beaten her at trials). The overall race time however was horrendous – 9L slower than maiden average. Has to be a query on whether it will hold up as a form reference. CORSO VENEZIA did follow the fence around and did SP 400-1 but she also finished within 4.5L of Rubens Ceiling and Saam Time Lucky. BUON AMICI should geta great run and is often thereabouts. Numbers: 9 – 13 – 14 – 8 Suggested Bet – HERAULT WIN RACE 5 FRIARS LEGACY won a maiden at Belmont leading over 1200m and then jumped near favourite in a 3 year old Saturday when splitting Country God and Castle Road. 53 days later he resumed in a 3 year old 0MWLY and jumped $2.20 when producing a moderate third to Vandula Jet and Spirited Strike (races Wednesday at Ascot). Out to 1400m and back in grade. PERFECT SISTER improved first-up to second-up and looks like she’s wanting 1400m now. This is a nice race for her if she can find cover early. MUDDY WATERS officially finished 8th of 11 beaten 3.2L first-up for new trainer Dan O’Connor but the run actually had plenty of merit. Never got a crack at them in the home straight and looked to have something to offer. SWANSEE went way (way) too hard last start. Like the shades coming off. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – FRIARS LEGACY WIN RACE 6 SHOWLAS is a nice mare resuming. She can work her way through the grades this prep after being tested in far tougher races as a 3 year old filly last campaign. Proven herself as a Graduation type of mare and from barrier 1 Ava Catarino has the option of leading or box seating. Either way this is a great starting point for her. RANYX took a while to break his maiden but then won a 1300m and a 1400m C1 in the space of 7 days before finishing his prep in a 2 & 3 year old 0MWLY. Worked through his gears nicely at the trials. Could be the improving type. CLEANEMUP drops back in grade and this is a really nice use of Rocky Cheung’s claim. CHERYLS SHOUT worked hard last start when holding on to finish fourth. Again drawn in the carpark, that’s the concern. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 1 – 10 Suggested Bet – SHOWLAS WIN RACE 7 PLAYBALL looks well placed and just about ready to win one. He has finished within 4L of the winner at each run this campaign and thought his latest was his best when beaten 3L behind Fine Star, Hedawood and Dominatus. Back into a 46+, drawn low and can park up close handy in a race with plenty of speed and pressure. DON’T TELL NAN has led against the fence twice in her 13 start career and has won on both occasions. Different mare when she can lead, can she cross these? Could be make or break early. PLAYFUL STAR has had a 3kg claimer on at her last four outings. Interesting to see the senior going on. GINGERIFFIC hasn’t been seen for 29 days since winning impressively up the fence at Gero. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 10 – 8 Suggested Bet – PLAYBALL WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 9,13 3,5 3,4 3,5,8,10 Market Market
