Scott Embry’s Thursday Northam Preview Posted on July 26, 2023July 26, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 LIEUTENANT DUNBAR was scratched last week from a wide gate and finds a much more suitable race here 7 days later. He looked home last start until the last stride when somehow Truly Awesome zapped him up the inside. Has become a bit of a story of his life with Lieutenant Dunbar, close but just can’t break through and win one. Deserves one more go. AUTHORATIVE and ARDENT FOX have both trialled well for their return and debut respectively. They both look like they’ll be winning maidens sooner rather than later. BORN AND BREAD has had a few homes and a few chances but with only 53kg is definitely dangerous. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 4 – 5 Suggested Bet – LIEUTENANT DUNBAR WIN RACE 2 PAPAVERO PRINCESS makes her debut for Summer Dickson. In her first trial back in February under William Pike she sat at the back of the field and was untested when bursting through late in style. Given another trial over 950 at Lark Hill in July where again she wasn’t asked for a full effort. Looks to have some ability. LONESOME DOVE is the half sister to Awesome Rock and looks like while she’s hard work, she’ll be winning one eventually. WINNING PIA is a tease. She’s now won a barrier trial by 9.5L and another by 4L. Needs to show up on race day. SAINT EADIE hasn’t had much luck with track patterns and barrier draws at Northam recently. Numbers: 10 – 6 – 4 – 5 Suggested Bet – PAPAVERO PRINCESS WIN RACE 3 FULL OF MERIT resumed over 1400m when third behind Cavallo Red and Yallingup Girl. They both race on Wednesday (Race 1 & Race 2 respectively) and hopefully that form holds up nicely at Belmont and we can roll into Thursday with Full of Merit. Senior rider on, out in trip to suit and dictates terms from the front of the field. Hard to run down. SILVER BACK JACK looms as one of the biggest dangers. Love the way he’s attacking the line and looks suited out in trip. BULLS EYE PERFECT was launching late at Moshuko. SECRECY next best. Numbers: 7 – 6 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet – FULL OF MERIT WIN RACE 4 DIVINE JUDGEMENT caught the attention at trials back in May when never asked for an effort. Hasn’t been seen since which is naturally a bit of a red flat, especially having been accepted and scratched from Northam on 15 June. Drawn to get a lovely run and the first-up effort last preparation behind Reel Themoff and Art Of Consent was solid. Would want eachway given the red flags. BIRTHDAY BALLOT rolled to the top last start at Northam trying something different and still found one better. She’s overdue for a wine. Enter Bradley Parnham. COLLECTIVE has a bad draw but ran well fresh. MY AFFLICTION has raced well this preparation. Numbers: 4 – 6 – 10 – 3 Suggested Bet – DIVINE JUDGEMENT EACHWAY RACE 5 MILITARY POWER has been a costly conveyance to punters over his short career. He finished second at his first five starts until Team Taylor made the ultimate change: swapping out his ‘Surveillance’ silks in a move of wild superstition, however, it paid dividends and he broke through for a strong maiden win. Ridden cold at trials and went well. Think he has some upside. WORK IN PROGRESS rises to 58.5kg but she reunites with Chris Parnham. Has been a bit of an all or nothing filly across her career. SWIM THROUGH is accepted for Wednesday and Thursday. If they scratch to come here beware. NORICH is flying along in his races and only tiring late. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 1 – 6 Suggested Bet – MILITARY POWER WIN RACE 6 DANCE OF THE SOUTH has hit a purple patch of form in these open handicap staying events. Two starts ago lead throughout under Brad Parnham to win by over 1L and then last start was in front for 2198m until nabbed on the post by One Point Lady. Reunites with Brad Parnham and that race was run 7L faster than average so happy to follow it through as a form reference. CABLE GUY can enjoy a gun run along the inside from barrier 1. He has been sustaining wide runs for months and going well. CARTANERA is suited to these races. She’ll get back and run on. GALARIAN gets some weight relief. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet – DANCE OF THE SOUTH WIN RACE 7 MY FURY has her first start for Mitch Pateman. She has had a freshen up of 54 days and should find this just as suitable as the Saturday Westspeed Platinum races that she had been contesting throughout her DMac preparation. Proven wegith carrier and is drawn to get a gun run. Respect at her first start for the new yard. Just doesn’t want it any worse than a Soft5/6. AGASSI was disappointing last start. Prior runs were strong and the wetter the better for him. FORTUNE’S LUCK has really hit form and is working her way through the grades. COUNT THE SESSIONS is hit and miss out of the gates but is going well for Holly Taylor. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 7 – 8 Suggested Bet – MY FURY EACHWAY RACE 8 ALBRIGHT was strong two starts ago when splitting handy 3 year old pair Yarralea and Bleecker Street. Last time out nothing at all went right for her and she was a complete forgive and forget run. Gets 1.5kg on Find Your Man from that event and is drawn to get every favour from the ideal barrier. WITHOUT REG is bursting to win another race. If they’re getting back and running on down the centre it really brings him into the mix. SECRET IDENTITY is double accepted for Wednesday and Thursday. Imagine it’s hard to ignore the small field Wednesday. FIND YOUR MAN got conditions to suit last start and duly saluted. Numbers: 9 – 1 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – ALBRIGHT WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 1,2,4 2,3,4 1,3,5,6,7,8,12 1,2,3,4,9 Market Market
